In this study, an analysis on the reaction characteristics of a catalyst using platinum (Pt) as an active oxidation metal catalyst for controlling SO2 was performed. Pt/TiO2 catalyst was prepared by using Pt as various precursor forms on a titania (TiO2) support, and used for the experiment. There was no difference in performance of SO2 oxidation according to Pt valence states such as Pt2+ or Pt4+ on Pt/TiO2, and Pt chloride species such as PtClx reduces SO2 oxidation performance. In addition, as a result of analyzing the valence state of the catalyst before and after the SO2 oxidation reaction by XPS analysis, a decrease in lattice oxygen and an increase in surface chemisorbed oxygen after the SO2 oxidation reaction were confirmed. Therefore it can be suggested that the oxidation reaction of SO2 when using the Pt/TiO2 catalyst is the major one following the Mar-Van Krevelen mechanism where the reaction of lattice oxygen corresponding to PtOx and the oxidation-reduction reaction by oxygen vacancy occur. Overall, it can be confirmed that the oxygen species of PtOx (Pt2+ or Pt4+) present on the catalyst acts as a major active site.
In the present study, catalytic combustion of hydrogen-air premixture in a millimeter scale monolith coated with Pt catalyst was investigated. As the combustor size decreases, the heat loss increases in proportion with the inverse of the scale of combustion chamber and combustion efficiency decreases in a conventional type of combustor. Combustion reaction assisted by catalyst can reduce the heat loss by decreasing the reaction temperature at which catalytic conversion takes place. Another advantage of catalytic combustion is that ignition is not required. Platinum was coated by incipient wetness method on a millimeter scale monolith with cell size of $1{\times}1mm$. Using this monolith as the core of the reaction chamber, temperatures were recorded at various locations along the flow direction. Burnt gas was passed to a gas chromatography system to measure the hydrogen content after the reaction. The measurements were made at various volume flow rate of the fuel-air premixture. The gas chromatography results showed the reaction was complete at all the test conditions and the reacting species penetrated the laminar boundary layer at the honeycomb and made contact with the catalyst coated surface. At all the measuring locations, the record showed monotonous increase of temperature during the measurement duration. And the temperature profile showed that the peak temperature is reached at the point nearest to the gas inlet and decreasing temperature along the flow direction.
The results of the catalytic reaction by pulsed injection of reactants are useful for studying the initial reaction characteristics in the case of many coke invloved reactions. The dehydrogenation characteristics of alumina supported platinum tin catalysts were investigated by pulsed injection of propane. The yield of propylene was maximized when the reduction time of propane injection catalyst was $550^{\circ}C$. Raman analysis showed that the amount of coke was very small when PtSn (4.5) catalyst was used and the short contact time was simulated by propane pulse injection. n order to differentiate the degree of dispersion of platinum, PtSn (4.5) catalyst was sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ with hydrogen, and then the temperature of air - redispersion was varied and propane pulse was injected. As a result, conversione and yield were the highest when air-redispersion temperature is $600^{\circ}C$. The lower the air-redispersion temperature, the higher the selectivity. As the tin content in the platinum catalyst increased, the propane conversion was lowered, but the selectivity to propylene increased and the yield increased. From this, it can be seen that the tin-added platinum catalyst is less active than the platinum catalyst from the beginning of the reaction, which is less affected by coke. The dehydrogenation reaction by the propane pulse injection shows a higher conversion rate than the result of continuous injection due to the formation of COx, and the amount of coke is very small. Decrease in selectivity due to the formation of COx can be reduced by increasing the reduction temperature and time.

The performance of fuel cell electrode depends on the characteristics of the catalyst support material. This paper deals with the use of CNF(carbon nanofibre) and CNT(carbon nanotube) as platinum catalyst support. The CNF and CNT were synthesized with catalyst treated by mechanochemical process and were prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The platinum supported on CNF and CNT for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) application. In result, the best I-V characteristic was verified by the prepared MEA(membrane electrode assembly) from twisted CNF that had a diameter of 65 nm.
Effective extraction of platinum group elements by dissolving waste platinum scrap from the display industry and solvent extraction, was studied. The extracted platinum solution was prepared as a precursor solution for diesel automotive exhaust gas purification catalyst and its catalytic activity was tested. The behavior of aqueous species of platinum was investigated through solution chemistry and based on the existence and behavior of these chemical species, the possibility of extraction and separation was established. By dissolving waste scrap by electrochemical method, the dissolution time of scrap was shortened and the extraction efficiency was increased. Through separation and removal of rhodium component, solvent extraction by TBP, and stripping by hydrochloric acid, Pt-Chloride-$H_2O$ solution was prepared. And then, an platinum amine complex solution through amination reaction with this solution as a raw material was prepared. The possibility of producing high-value platinum compounds from platinum group waste scrap was investigated by preparing platinum amine complex solution and then examining the catalytic activity with this amine precursor on the combustion reaction of carbon black.

HI decomposition step certainly demand catalytic reaction for efficient production of hydrogen in SI process. Platinum catalyst can apply to HI decomposition reaction as well as hydrogenation or dehydrogenation. Generally, noble metal is used as catalyst which is loaded form for getting high dispersion and wide active area. In this study, Pt was loaded onto zirconia, ceria, alumina, and silica by impregnation method. HI decomposition reaction was carried out under the condition of $450^{\circ}C$, 1atm, and $167.76h^{-1}$ (WHSV) in a fixed bed reactor for measuring catalytic activity. And property of a catalyst was observed by BET, TEM, XRD and chemisoption analysis. On the basis of experimental results, we discussed about conversion of HI according to physical properties of the loaded Pt catalyst onto each support.

Human has faced in lack of fossil fuel and environmental crisis because of high population growth and development of industry. Hydrogen, unlimited amount and clean resource from water electrolysis, is remarkably known as the solution of recent energy crisis. One of the special characteristics of hydrogen is that a little amount of catalytic such as platinum and palladium makes nonflammable combustion, in other words catalyst combustion. Catalytic combustion fueled by hydrogen is environmentally friendly. This paper considers some comparisons of characteristic of catalytic combustion between a single layer of platinum catalyst, double layer of platinum and nickel catalysts and mixture of platinum and nickel catalysts. Some experiments of temperature distribution at different positions and characteristic of combustion in low temperature region were done in order to find an applicable possibility as a house-cooking burner.
Platinum is a transition metal that is very resistant to corrosion. It is used as catalyst for converting methyl alcohol to formaldehyde, as catalytic converter in cars, for hydrocracking of heavy oils, in Fuel Cell devices etc. Moreover, Platinum compounds are important ingredient for cancer chemotherapy drugs. The nano forms of Platinum due to its unique physico-chemical properties that are not found in its bulk counterpart, has been found to be of great importance in electronics, optoelectronics, enzyme immobilization etc. The stability of Platinum nanoparticles has supported its use for the development of efficient and durable proton exchange membrane Fuel Cells. The present review concentrates on the use of Platinum conjugated with various metal or compounds, to fabricate nanocomposites, to enhance the efficiency of Platinum nanoparticles. The recent advances in the synthesis methods of different Platinum-based nanocomposites and their applications in Fuel Cell, sensors, bioimaging, light emitting diode, dye sensitized solar cell, hydrogen generation and in biosystems has also been discussed.

The objective of this study is to develop a platinum/hexaaluminate pellet catalyst for the decomposition of eco-friendly liquid propellant. Pellet catalysts using hexaaluminate prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis as a support and platinum as an active metal were prepared by two methods. In the case of the pellet catalyst formed by loading the platinum precursor onto the hexaaluminate powder and then adding the binder (M1 method catalyst), the mesopores were well developed in the catalyst after calcination at $550^{\circ}C$. However, when this catalyst was calcined at $1,200^{\circ}C$, the mesopores almost collapsed and only a few macropores existed. On the other hand, in the case of a catalyst in which platinum was supported on pellets after the pellet was produced by extrusion of hexaaluminate (M2 method catalyst), the surface area and the mesopores were well maintained even after calcination at $1,200^{\circ}C$. Also, the catalyst prepared by the M2 method showed better heat resistance in terms of platinum dispersion. The effects of preparation method and calcination temperature of Pt/hexaaluminate pellet catalysts on the decomposition of liquid propellant composed mainly of ammonium dinitramide (ADN) or hydroxyl ammonium nitrate (HAN) were investigated. It was confirmed that the decomposition onset temperature during the decomposition of ADN- or HAN- based liquid propellant could be reduced significantly by using Pt/hexaaluminate pellet catalysts. Especially, in the case of the catalyst prepared by the M2 method, the decomposition onset temperature did not show a large change even when the calcination temperature was raised at $1,200^{\circ}C$. Therefore, it was confirmed that Pt/ hexaaluminate pellet catalyst prepared by M2 method has heat resistance and potential as a catalyst for the decomposition of the eco-friendly liquid propellants.
