해수 파울링이 판형 열교환기 성능에 미치는 영향에 대한 고찰 (Study on Effects of Seawater Fouling on a Plate-Frame Heat Exchanger)

  • Understanding of seawater fouling characteristics is critical in designing a heat exchanger adapted in an effluent utilization system for a power plant. We reviewed three types of fouling mechanisms of general, biological, and crystallizing for a plate-frame heat exchanger, to be used for heat exchanging with heated effluent from a power plant. Also, mathematical models for each type of seawater fouling were suggested. Actual thermal resistance calculated from seawater fouling models were compared and implemented in designing a plate-frame heat exchanger. The bio-fouling model revealed the largest thermal resistance and the highest number of plates for a plate-frame heat exchanger under the same heat load. Overall heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of a plate-frame heat exchanger under fouling conditions was lower by 58 percent and higher by 2.85 times than those under clean conditions, respectively.

  • The objective of the present study is to investigate the performance of electronic scale mitigation unit(ESMU), which reduces the amount of scale in a heat exchanger. The circular tube with diameter of 19mm and plate-and-frame heat exchangers with 20 thermal plates were used for the tests. In order to accelerate the rate of scale in a laboratory test, artificial hard water of 1000ppm(as CaCO$_3$) was recirculated at a flow rate of 5 lpm, 7 lpm, and 9 lpm throughout the tests. The effect of ESMU on the scale thickness and overall heat transfer coefficients was examined. The test results showed that the ESMU could reduce the scale deposits even in the acceleated test.

  • This paper describes an improving cooling system in the composite plant. In order to save the energy, a plate-and-frame heat exchanger has been used to replace the traditional worm cooler. The composite plant in Thailand was studied as an illustrative case study. The experimental results demonstrating the saving in energy costs and some economic benefits of the proposed technique are obtained.
