In the present study, the elasto-plastic analysis of prismatic plate structures subjected to pure bending is carried out using the finite strip method. The end cross-sections of the structure are assumed to remain plane during deformation, and the compatibility along corner lines is ensured by choosing proper displacement functions. The effects of both the initial geometrical imperfections and residual stresses due to fabrication are included in the combined geometrically and materially nonlinear simulation. The von-Mises yield criterion and the Prandtl-Reuss flow theory of plasticity are applied in modelling the elasto-plastic behavior of material. Newton-Raphson iterations are carried out as the rotation of the end cross sections of the structure is increased step by step. The parameter representing the overall axial strain of structure is adjusted constantly during the iteration process in order to eliminate the resulting overall axial force on any cross-section of the structure in correspondence with the assumption of zero axial force in pure bending. Several numerical examples are presented to validate the present method and to investigate the effects of some material and geometrical parameters.

Friction and wear characteristics of short fiber reinforced and particulate filled composites were investigated experimentally. Two kinds of fiber composites, chopped graphite fiber reinforced PAI(polyamide-imide) and glass fiber reinforced PAI, and a particulate composite, TiO$_{2}$ powder filled PAI, were selected for the friction and wear test since these are important engineering materials based on a new high temperature engineering plastic. All the specimens were cut into proper size for cylinder-on-plate type wear test. Frictional forces were measured by employing a load transducer and wear rates were calculated by measuring weight loss during wear test. The experimental results are reported in this paper and carefully discussed to explain the friction and wear behavior qualitatively. The frictional behavior is interpreted by considering four basic friction components which are believed to the genesis of friction and the wear behavior is explained by applying delamination theory of wear.

In this study, based on a I-roll embedded steel composite deck, it is suggested a new type of simplified composite deck and analyzed under construction loading. Using ABAQUS, it's estimated effects of welding amount of steel plate and I-section, existence of a hole of I-section's flange, and a location of hole. For a reasonable verification of modeling, compare Euler-Beam theory with F.E.M models. In result, it is verified that change of welding amount increase more maximum bending tension stresses at the central part's section of span when elements are partial-welded. Also, verify that deflection is slightly increased when a hole existed compared with no hole.

This paper deals with a flat type ultrasonic motor, which uses a longitudinal-bending multi mode vibrator of rectangular form. This ultrasonic motor was designed by combination of the first longitudinal and eighth bending mode, and the motor consisted of a straight aluminum alloy bar bonded with piezoelectric ceramic elements as a driving element. The geometrical dimensions of the rectangular aluminum vibrator were determined by Euler-Bernoulli theory In the experimental device, piezoelectric ceramics ( a piece of ceramic for the L-mode, $24\;{\times}\;8\;{\times}\;1[mm]$, and four pieces for the B-mode, $12.5\;{\times}\;8\;{\times}\;1[mm]$) were attached to one side of a aluminum plate($100\;{\times}\;8\;{\times}\;1[mm]$), and the stator was supported with a plastic case. As results, no-load rpm was 50[rev./m] when applied voltage was 150[Vrms] at the resonance frequency, and as the voltage was increased, the rpm was increased.
The goal of this study is to evaluate the limitation of ASTM D 198 bending and ASTM D 3044 in determination of elastic modulus and shear modulus. Different material properties and span to depth ratios were used to analyze the effects of material property and testing conditions. The ratio of true elastic modulus to apparent elastic modulus evaluated from ASTM D 198 bending sharply decreased with increment of span to depth ratio. Shear modulus evaluated from ASTM D 198 bending decreased with increment of depth, whereas shear modulus evaluated from ASTM D 3044 was hardly influenced by increment of depth. Poisson's ratio influenced shear modulus from ASTM D 198 bending but did not influence shear modulus from ASTM D 3044. Different shearing factor was obtained for different depths of beams to correct shear modulus obtained from ASTM D 198 bending equivalent to shear modulus from theory of elasticity. Equivalent shear modulus of materials could be obtained by applying different shearing factors associated with beam depth for ASTM D 198 bending and correction factor for ASTM D 3044.

An equation was derived which describes the slip force that occurs at the casting of initial state due to unequilibrium with support bar weight, liquid metal, casting velocity, thickness, control roller, hydraulic motor and etc. The slip force equations are solved on the basis of velocity, gravity and thickness in casting ingot. In this paper the auther assumed that the other mechanisms are normal. The behaviour of slip force in many characteristics is calculated as a function of velocity, gravity and thickness with variation. The conclusion with this phenomena is reached that the present theory realistically predicts the growth of slip force in a flat plate ingot continuous casting machine.

In this paper, we compared various shear deformation functions for modelling anti-symmetric composite sandwich plates discretized by a mixed finite element method based on the Lagrangian/Hermite interpolation functions. These shear deformation theories uses polynomial, trigonometric, hyperbolic and exponential functions through the thickness direction, allowing for zero transverse shear stresses at the top and bottom surfaces of the plate. All shear deformation functions are compared with other available analytical/3D elasticity solutions, As a result, reasonable accuracy for investigated problems are predicted. Particularly, The present results show that the use of exponential shear deformation theory provides very good solutions for composite sandwich plates.

In this paper, the problem of interfacial stresses in steel beams strengthened with a fiber reinforced polymer plates is analyzed using linear elastic theory. The analysis is based on the deformation compatibility approach developed by Tounsi (2006) where both the shear and normal stresses are assumed to be invariant across the adhesive layer thickness. The analysis provides efficient calculations for both shear and normal interfacial stresses in steel beams strengthened with composite plates, and accounts for various effects of Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus of adhesive. Such interfacial stresses play a fundamental role in the mechanics of plated beams, because they can produce a sudden and premature failure. The analysis is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility approach developed by Tounsi (2006). In the present theoretical analysis, the adherend shear deformations are taken into account by assuming a parabolic shear stress through the thickness of both the steel beam and bonded plate. The paper is concluded with a summary and recommendations for the design of the strengthened beam.

In this paper, hydroelastic responses of the very large floating structure are studied based on the linear potential theory. A theoretical method is developed to analyze the hydroelastic reponses of very large floating structures(VLFS) using the pressure distribution method and the modal expansion method. The singularities distributed on a zero draft plate at the free surfaces and hydrodynamic pressures are evaluated. The deflections of structure are expanded approximately in terms of natural mode functions of free-free beam. The calculated items are pressure distributions. vertical motions, hydrodynamic coefficients and bending moments of VLFS. The numerical results are compared with those measured by experiments.

It is generally known that high strength soil is indicative of well-graded particle size distribution. However, there are some special cases of firm ground despite poor grade distribution, especially a specific gap-graded soil. Based on these discoveries, this study investigated the development of an additive of gap-graded soils designed to increase soil strength. This theoretical concept was used to calculate the mixed ratio required for optimal soil strength of the ground sample. The gap-graded aggregate was added according to Plato's polyhedral theory and subsequently calculated ratio and soil strength characteristics were then compared to characteristics of the original soil sample through various test results. In addition, the underground stress transfer rate was measured according to the test conditions. The test results showed that the ground settlement and stress limit thickness were reduced with the incorporation of gap-graded soil. Further field tests would confirm the reproducibility and reliability of the technology by using gap-graded soil to reinforce soft ground of a new construction site. Gap-graded soil has the potential to reduce the construction cost and time of construction compared to other reinforcing methods.
