자동차번호판 자동인식을 위한 문자추출에 관한 연구 (A Study on Character Extraction Algorithm for Vehicle License Plate Recognition)

  • One of the most difficult tasks in the process of automatic vehicle license plate recognition is the extraction of each character from within license plate region. In many cases, characters, especially serial numbers of plates are connected together due to noise and plate accessories. The recognition process may not be successful without extracting these characters effectively. This paper presents an algorithm to extract these connected characters very effectively. The algorithm utilizes mathematical morphology, connected component analysis, and gradient filters for character extraction. The paper also presents thorough experimental results as well as details of the algorithm.

Structural optimization of stiffener layout for stiffened plate using hybrid GA

  • The current trend in shipyard industry is to reduce the weight of ships to support the reduction of CO2 emissions. In this study, the stiffened plate was optimized that is used for building most of the ship-structure. Further, this study proposed the hybrid Genetic Algorithm (GA) technique, which combines a genetic algorithm and subsequent optimization methods. The design variables included the number and type of stiffeners, stiffener spacing, and plate thickness. The number and type of stiffeners are discrete design variables that were optimized using the genetic algorithm. The stiffener spacing and plate thickness are continuous design variables that were determined by subsequent optimization. The plate deformation was classified into global and local displacement, resulting in accurate estimations of the maximum displacement. The optimization result showed that the proposed hybrid GA is effective for obtaining optimal solutions, for all the design variables.

  • Using the responses of deck plate, a new bridge weigh-in-motion system has been introduced. The approach includes not only a systematic algorithm for the extraction of moment influence sequence but also a sensitivity-based system identification technique. The algorithm indentifies the influence sequence, the axle loads, and axle location of moving vehicles on a bridge, simultaneously. The accuracy and practicability of the algorithm have been examined experimentally for a folded deck plate on Yongjong Grand suspension bridge. It turns out that the two-dimensional effects of the behavior of deck plate should be considered for further accuracy improvement.

  • An image processing algorithm is developed in order to recognize the type of cars, the position of a number plate and the characters on the plate. to recognize the type of cars, comparison of two images is used. One has a car image, the other is just a background image without car. After that recognition, a vertical line filter is used to find the location of the plate. Finally the simularity mehod is used to recognize the numbers on plates.

  • License plate recognition is very important in an automobile society. This is because, since plate detection accuracy has large influence on subsequent number recognition, it is very important. However, it is very difficult to do it, because a background and a body color of cars are similar to that of the license plate. In this paper, we propose a new thresholds determination method in the various background by using the real-coded genetic algorithm (RGA). By using RGA, the most likely plate colors are decided under various lighting conditions. First, the average brightness Y values of images are calculated. Next, relationship between the Y value and the most likely plate color thresholds (upper and lower bounds)are obtained by RGA. The relationship between thresholds decided from RGA and brightness average is aproximate by using the recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm. In the case of plate detection, thresholds are decided from these functions.

  • This paper presents an enhanced preprocessing and recognition algorithm for automatic vehicle license plate recognition system. The algorithm first applies horizontal gradient filter followed by thresholding and mathematical morphology operation for preprocessing. The final stage of the preprocessing is the application of connected component analysis in order to estimate the license plate region. For the recognition of the serial numbers of the plates, we developed a very effective algorithm. We call this zerocrossing count algorithm. This paper presents a detail of this algorithm and compare the performance with a template matching algorithm which utilizes correlation coefficient.

  • This paper presents the development of a controller that can control the temperature of an heating system based on a thermoelectric module. Temperature controller using Peltier has various external factors such as external temperature, characteristics of an aluminum plate, installation location of temperature sensors, and combination method between the aluminum plate and heating element. Therefore, it is difficult to apply the simulation and simulation results of heating system using Peltier at control algorithm. In general, almost temperature controller is using PID algorithm that finds control gain value heuristically. In this paper, it is proposed mathematical model that explain correlate between the temperature of the heating system and input voltage. And then, optimal parameter of estimated thermal model of the aluminum plate are searched by using genetic algorithm. In addition, based on this estimated model, the optimal PID control gain are inferred using a genetic algorithm. All of the sequence are simulated and verified with proposed real system.

An image enhancement Method for extracting multi-license plate region

  • In this paper, we propose an image enhancement algorithm to improve license plate extraction rate in various environments (Day Street, Night Street, Underground parking lot, etc.). The proposed algorithm is composed of image enhancement algorithm and license plate extraction algorithm. The image enhancement method can improve an image quality of the degraded image, which utilizes a histogram information and overall gray level distribution of an image. The proposed algorithm employs an interpolated probability distribution value (PDV) in order to control a sudden change in image brightness. Probability distribution value can be calculated using cumulative distribution function (CDF) and probability density function (PDF) of the captured image, whose values are achieved by brightness distribution of the captured image. Also, by adjusting the image enhancement factor of each part region based on image pixel information, it provides a function that can adjust the gradation of the image in more details. This processed gray image is converted into a binary image, which fuses narrow breaks and long thin gulfs, eliminates small holes, and fills gaps in the contour by using morphology operations. Then license plate region is detected based on aspect ratio and license plate size of the bound box drawn on connected license plate areas. The images have been captured by using a video camera or a personal image recorder installed in front of the cars. The captured images have included several license plates on multilane roads. Simulation has been executed using OpenCV and MATLAB. The results show that the extraction success rate is more improved than the conventional algorithms.

차 연산과 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 통합 인식 (Recognition of Car License Plates Using Difference Operator and ART2 Algorithm)

  • 본 논문에서는 형태학적 특징 및 차 연산과 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식 방법을 제안하였다. 무인 카메라에서 획득된 차량 번호판 영상에서 차 연산을 이용하여 에지를 추출한 후에 블록 이진화한다. 이진화된 차량 영상에서 신 구 차량 번호판의 형태학적 특성을 8방향 윤곽선 추적 알고리즘에 적용하여 잡음 영역을 제거하고, 차량의 번호판 영역을 추출한다. 추출된 번호판 영역에 대하여 평균 이진화와 최대 최소 이진화를 적용하여 번호판의 개별 영역에 대한 형태학적 특성을 고려하여 잡음을 제거하고, Labeling 알고리즘을 적용하여 개별 문자를 추출한 후에 결합한다. 이렇게 추출되어 결합된 개별 문자 및 숫자 코드들은 ART2 알고리즘에 적용하여 학습 및 인식된다. 제안된 차량 번호판 추출 및 인식 방법의 성능을 평가하기 위해 녹색 번호판과 흰색 번호판 이미지 각각 100장을 대상으로 실험한 결과, 제안된 차량 번호판 추출 및 인식기법이 효율적임을 확인하였다.

금속고정용의 강도 평가 알고리즘 구현 (Implementation of Strength Estimation Algorithm on the Metallic Plate Fixation)

  • 본 논문은 신경외과 및 일반외과 영역에서 골 고정용 금속판으로 골 수술 및 치료를 하는 과정에서 골 고정요 금속판의 굴곡강도와 강성을 평가할 수 있는 강요평가 알고리즘을 구현하였다. 굴곡곡선의 최대 포인트 점은 0.2% 상쇄변위(offset displacement)에서 평형하게 접근 할 수 있는 포인트 P점을 최대 하중에 부여하는 굴곡 점으로 적용하였다. 실험에 사용한 플레이트(Plate)는 ${\Phi}13$${\Phi}18$이며, 강도평가의 알고리즘은 플레이트 ${\Phi}13$, ${\Phi}18$, ${\Phi}13-{\Phi}18$ 비교하였으며, 플레이트에 압박하는 힘의 알고리즘을 산출한 결과 굽힘강도의 최대값이 311N, 387N, 410N, 474N로 나타났고, 변위(Displacement)에 따라 하중에 견디는 시점인 인장강도가274(N), 324(N), 382(N), 394(N)로 나타났음으로 이 시점이 금속판의 굴곡운동 값으로 결정되었다. 본 연구의 결과로 한 개의 축을 기준으로 발생하는 골 고정용 금속판의 강도 조절 문제를 평가알고리즘으로 구성함으로 해결할 수 있었고, 형태 변화에 따른 조절기능을 검증할 수 있는 시스템이 새로운 알고리즘 형성으로 가능할 것으로 예상된다.
