Super engineering plastic(SEP) are applied to high performance and high value industries due to their excellent mechanical properties and high continuous operating temperature. Among them, PES and PEI are amorphous SEPs, and have the advantages of high flexibility, mechanical properties, transparency, and thermal stability. In this study, polyethersulfone(PES) and polyetherimide(PEI) fibers were manufactured to produce flame retardant artificial hair. PES and PEI fibers prepared through a melt-spinning process at a high temperature of 360 to 420℃. They are compared with commercial artificial hair by thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA), linear density, tenacity, and limited oxygen index(LOI) analysis. PES and PEI fibers have similar linear density and tenacity to commercial artificial hair, while their thermal stability and flame retardant are excellent. In particular, flame retardant was analyzed through LOI value and PES was 35.1%, which is superior to commercial artificial hair PET/Br(28.2%) and PET/P(20.2%). Therefore, PES and PEI are suitable as artificial hair for flame retardant.
Purpose: The long-term experience of using osseointegrated implants for prosthetic rehabilitation of the edentulous patients shows that high success rates can be predictably achieved. Primary implant stability has been identified to be a prerequisite to achieve osseointegration. In this study, we set up the amount of removed bone so that it differed on implant installation site for each group. The influence of each initial stability on secondary stability and osseointegration was compared with time lapse using resonance frequency analysis and histomorphometric analysis. Materials and methods: A total 27 US $II^{(R)}$ (Osstem, Korea) implants were placed in the mandibular edentulous area of 3 beagle dogs. The implant site was prepared by the conventional technique with drills, and three experimental groups were divided into under-drilling group, normal-drilling group and over-drilling group. The Implant Stability Quotient (ISQ) was measured at intervals of immediately, 4, 8, 12 weeks after placement using $Osstell^{(R)}$ mentor RFA. After the animals were sacrificed, histomorphometric evaluation was executed for measuring BIC and BD. Results: 1) The under-drilled group showed most high ISQ value for whole experiment period. 2) Bone-to-implant-contact(BIC) showed the tendency to be increased gradually as the experiment period passed except the 8 weeks of the normal group. 3) The under-drilled group showed most high bone density(BD) level for whole experiment period, and it was expressed the aspect to be increased gradually according to an experiment period passage in the average of all group. 4) Resonance frequency analysis and histomorphometric analysis are presumed by generally proportional. Conclusions: As this research result, it seems that there are some correlation between resonance frequency analysis and histomorphometric analysis. As are accomplished osseointegration stably so that more superior at the region which the overpressure comes to add, it will be applicable method in clinical field.
This is a case study of stability analysis and reinforcement design for the tunnel where the collapse of the entrance slops occured along the fault zone developed in the bed rock. According to the site investigation, the main factor of sliding is the influence of fault gouge and heavy rainfall. Considering the in-situ condition, the versatile reinforcement methods is needed, and so the close investigation on the site area was accompanied with the stability analysis of tunnel and slops. The FRP(Fiberglass reinforced plastic) grouting method improved the defect of Steel Umbrella Arch Method, such as oxidation, low work efficiency, the material's heavy weight, is adapted as the reinforcement methods.
Rock damage induced by blasting can not be avoided during tunnel construction and may affect tunnel stability. But the mutual interaction between tunnel blasting design and tunnel stability design is generally not considered. Therefore this study propose a methodology to take into considration the results of the blasting damage in tunnel stability design. Rock damage is evaluated by dynamic numerical analysis for the most common blasting pattern adopted in road tunnel. Damage zone is determined by using the continuum damage model which is expressed as a function of volumetric strain. And the damage effect is taken into account by the damaged rock stiffness and the damaged failure criteria in tunnel stability assessment. The extend of plastic zone and deformation increase compared to the case of not considering blast-induced rock damage.
Wellbore instability problem is one of the main problems that met frequently during drilling, particularly in high temperature, high pressure (HPHT) formations. There are large amount of researches about wellbore stability in HPHT formations, which based on the thermo-poroelastic theory and some achievements were obtained; however, few studies have investigated on the fully coupled thermo-poroelastoplasticity analysis of wellbore stability, especially the analysis of wellbore stability while the filter cake formed. Therefore, it is very necessary to do some work. In this paper, the three-dimensional wellbore stability model which overall considering the effects of fully coupled thermo-poroelastoplasticity and filter cake is established based on the finite element method and Drucker-Prager failure criterion. The distribution of pore pressure, wellbore stress and plastic deformation under the conditions of different mud pressures, times and temperatures have been discussed. The results obtained in this paper can offer a great help on understanding the distribution of pore pressure and wellbore stress of wellbore in the HPHT formation for drilling engineers.
In this study two dimensional visco-plastic finite element model capable of handling the multi-step excavation was developed for investigating the effect of excavation support sequences on the behavior of underground openings in the jointed rock mass. First, the finite element model which is capable of handling the multi-step excavation is developed and verified. And then the model is combined with visco-plastic joint model. Ubiquitous joint pattern was considered in the model and joint properties in cach set were assumed to be indentical. Passive, full-grouted rockbolts were cosidered in the numerical model. The visco-plastic deformations of joints and rockbolts were assumed to be governed by Mohr-Conlomb and von Mises yield criteria, respectively. With the ability of removing elements, the model can simulate the multi-step excavation-suppport sequences. The reliability and applicability of the model to the stability analysis for the underground excavation in pratice was checked by simulating the behavior of underground crude oil storage caverns under construction.
This paper deals with the nonlinear finite element analysis of fibre-reinforced plastic poles. Based on the principle of stationary potential energy and Novozhilov's derivations of nonlinear strains, the formulations for the geometric nonlinear analysis of general shells are derived. The formulations are applied to the fibre-reinforced plastic poles which are treated as conical shells. A semi-analytical finite element model based on the theory of shell of revolution is developed. Several aspects of the implementation of the geometric nonlinear analysis are discussed. Examples are presented to show the applicability of the nonlinear analysis to the post-buckling and large deformation of fibre-reinforced plastic poles.
The modern automotive industry develops innovative vehicle designs to meet increasing stability of car and performance demands of their customers. The improvement of frame rigidity by the structural foam is thought to be an effective means to improve the performance because of high applicability and minimum weight. The object of this paper is to examine the use of structural foam in a hat section as an optimum reinforcing means, to compare the reinforcing performance of structural foam versus a plastic reinforcement. The result of this paper indicated that reinforcing efficiencies are achieved by structural foam and plastic reinforcement shape.
The objective of this study is to investigate the earthquake response for the design of 100m spanned single-layer lattice dome. The plastic hinge analysis and eigenvalue buckling analysis are performed to estimate the ultimate load of single-layered lattice domes under vertical loads. In order to ensure the stability of lattice domes, it is investigated for the plastic hinge progressive status by the pushover increment analysis considering the elasto-plastic connection. One of the most effective methods to reduce the earthquake response of large span domes is to install the LRB isolation system of a dome. The authors discuss the reducing effect for the earthquake dynamic response of 100m spanned single-layered lattice domes. The LRB seismic isolation system can greatly reduce the dynamic response of lattice domes for the horizontal and vertical earthquake ground motion.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare the stability between Mg-incorporated implant, TiUnite and Machined implant. Materials and Methods: Premolars of 3 Mini pigs (24 months) were extracted. After 2 months later, total 27 fixtures of implants (9 of each design : Machined/ TiUnite/ Mg-incorporated) were inserted into the mandible of 3 mini-pig. Implant stability was estimated by RFA in installation to 2, 4 & 6 weeks. Statistical analysis of RFA values was performed with time and between groups using repeated measure ANOVA and turkey's multiple comparison test. Results: In analyzing the mean value for the observation periods, three types of implants yielded a slight decrease in RFA mean value after 2 week, followed by increase at 4-6 weeks. Mg incorporated oxidized implants demonstrated significantly higher RFA mean values at 6 weeks comparing other groups. The difference of RFA value with time and between groups was statistically significant. Conclusion: We concluded that Mg implants may reduce failure rates of clinical implants In the early period of bone healing and Mg implants may shorten the bone healing time from surgery to functional loading.
