  • Microcavity plasma devices having characteristic dimensions below $100\;{\mu}m$ have been investigated as a candidate for the next generation of plasma displays. Arrays of inverted pyramid microcavity devices, fabricated in Si with emitting apertures of $(50\;{\mu}m)^2$ and designed for AC or bipolar excitation, demonstrate a luminous efficacy above 6 lm/W at pressures up to and beyond one atmosphere of Ne/Xe mixtures. Also the design of analogous microplasma devices in ceramic multilayer structures or plastic substrates is disccussed.

  • As a direct-view flat panel displays, there are many devices, such as plasma display panels(PDPs), vacuum fluorescent displays (VFDs), and light emitting diode(LED). Among these, a PDP is the first type of panel display to be made commercially available. A 'Plasma display' is the general term for a flat display utilizing the light emission that is produced by gas discharge. However, the brightness and Luminous efficiency are still not adequate for consumer television. So, the new sustain electrode type of ac PDP was proposed. By arranging the transparent electrode of quadrangle by zigzag, the area of electrode are reduced, and the length of electrode gap is increased. It generates a high luminous efficiency(corresponding to a 40% improvement of standard type), the same discharge voltage characteristics, and the low power consumption at same luminance.

  • The current display technology tends to be highly integrated with high resolution, the element size is gradually downsized, and the structure becomes complicated. Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) dry etcher of various types of etching equipment is a structure that places a large multi-divisional antenna source on the top lid, passes current to the Antenna, and generates plasma using the induced magnetic field generated at this time. However, in the case of a device of a large area size, a support that can withstand a load structurally is necessary, and when these support portions are applied, arrangement of antenna becomes difficult, which causes reduction in uniformity. As described above, the development of antenna source of a large area having a uniform plasma density on the whole surface is difficult to restrict hardware (H/W). As a solution to this problem, we confirmed the change in uniformity of plasma by applying two kinds of specific shape faraday shield(FICP) to the lower part of the large area upper lid antenna of 6 and 8th more than that generation size. In this thesis, we verify the faraday shield effect which can improve plasma uniformity control of ICP dry etcher equipment applied to medium and large displays.

  • New display technologies including LCD and plasma panels and Digital Light Projection (DLP) systems all offer large screens and impressive picture quality. However, flat-panel displays require a sophisticated picture processing to let these panels perform at their optimum levels. This paper explains why motion compensating techniques combined with frame rate conversion and quasi-impulse driving reduces motion blur and film judder for flat panel displays and presents the IC and its system application using this technique.

  • The key role of MgO is well recognized in PDP's technology. During manufacturing, significant contamination of the oxide occurs. Getters can compete against the impurities sorption speed of the oxide layer. The analysis of the impact of a suitable getter configuration on the operational parameters of PDP's is the final goal of this study.

  • High reliability thin film transistors are important factors for next-generation displays. The reliability of transparent a-IGZO semiconductors is being actively studied for display applications. A plasma treatment can fill the oxygen vacancies in the channel layer and the channel layer/insulating layer interface so that the device can work stably under a bias voltage. This paper studies the effect of plasma treatment on the performance of a-IGZO TFT devices. The influence of different plasma gases on the electrical parameters of device and its working reliability are reviewed. The article mentions argon, fluorine, hydrogen and several ways of processing in the atmosphere. Among these methods, F (fluorine) plasma treatment can maximize equipment reliability. It is expected that the presented results will form a basis for further research to improve the reliability of a-IGZO TFT.

  • Two different kinds of subjects are discussed. One is " Enhanced color space for displays" and the other one is"An application for large format displays". Originally defined color space by NTSC has never been used widely for TVs and information displays as there have been no available display devices. LCD panels with new light sources for backlighting will provide much wider color space. LCD monitors which use these new panels will meet almost 100% with the color space defined by NTSC or Adobe. Now, It is the time to deploy wider color space defined by such as the NTSC or Adobe as the standard of LCD display panels. As the large format display devices with reasonable price have not been available till plasma panels became available, application of these panels as an information display in public space is a quite new experience for us. Various kinds of practical applications are observed and coming out. It will generate many and new types of businesses.
