Since 1945, the periodical reforestation projects considered as the fundamental apparatus of the forest policy of the Government have been continuously carried out during last 40 years in Korea. As a result, some of the forests are ready to be harvested, especially in well-managed plantations as well as in the natural forests. This requires to pay more attention to harvesting the timber rather than planting trees. At the present, such timber harvesting operations such as cutting, felling, bucking, and skidding and yarding, particularly yarding operations in mountain areas with harsh terrains are in the most cases depend upon man power. However, the yarding operations should be more mechanized in the near future in Korea mainly because of the high cost of labour couppled with the lack of labour in forested areas. The Forest Work Training Center attached to the Forest Administration imported and tested the smallsized cable crane(K-300) with movable tower. The result of economic analysis of the yarding operation expenditures shows that the cable crane yarding costs more than the man yarding at the present time. As the labour cost will gradually increase and the efficiency of machine operation will improve, the results of the study indicates that the yarding operation by cable crane will be more cost-effective in the future.
This study was carried out to investigate effects of stock plant management and foliar spray of GA on the flower quality in hydroponically grown chrysanthemum 'Shinma'. In the growth and development as affected by stock plant management, cut flower length, petal number and cut flower weight were the best in the plot of long day and chilling treatment showed 114 cm, 298 and 102 g, respectively. Chlorophyll content(SPAD-value) was the highest in the plot of foliar spray of diluted Molbia(1 : 500). Flower quality according to concentration and spray time of gibberellin showed a different pattern. Cut flower length was the longest in the plot of solution diluted to 1 : 1,000 spraying before flowering at 60 days, petal number was the most in 1 : 500 at 60 days, and cut flower weight was the heaviest in 1 : 2,000 at 60 days, respectively. However, peduncle length was tended to be elongated with foliar spray of gibberellin solution diluted to 1 : 500 or 1 : 1,000 before flowering at 45 days.

Lilium lancifolium, which is one of the Korean native lilies, possesses several useful genetic characteristics such as growth vigor, bulbil formation and resistance to Fusarium. Hybridization was performed to insert useful traits of Asiatic hybrid "Dreamland" as the male parent with upward direction and dark brown spotless on the petal into L. lancifolium as the female parent. The rate of pollen germination of L. lancifolium and "Dreamland" were 30% and 60%, respectively. The pollen germination ratio of $F_1$ progenies at flowering date was 25-57%, which is between the parents'pollen germination ratio. The individual flowering time was between 113 days and 131 days after planting. Of 99% of all plants, the leaf shape index was more than five, which means that the leaf shape of $F_1$ plants is more influenced by female than male parent. The flower color was separated into four types. 51.5% of the progenies showed orange and 44.2% showed light orange, respectively. The colors seemed to be highly influenced by female parents. Mixed colors of parents, orange yellow and light yellow orange, were 3.1%, 1.2%, respectively. Flowering directions were segregated by three different ways, upside, side, and downside. Side direction, which is medium type between female and male parent, was 73%. All progenies showed lots of spot on petals except one offspring. The percentage of bulbil formation on leaf axil was 49.4%. Among those, the maximum number of bulbil formation was 25. The mean number of bulbil formation per plant was five.

This study derived the design aspects by carrying out the case study of Neunggok prehistoric remains park, Ansansingil historic park and Yongjuk historic park to which are taken measures to preserve undesignated cultural heritages after studying the related laws & regulations and the systems as the design conditions of historic park preserving buried cultural heritages. The results of the study are as follows. First, according to the laws & regulations related to the historical parks, the historic sites should be preserved and utilized at the same time and can have history-related facility spaces, squares, rest spaces, exercise spaces, education & culture space, and convenience spaces. Second, by the space organization and the circulation system emphasizing only the preservation of buried cultural heritages, the feature-preservation space and the functional space are separated and due to not accepting the usage behavior considering peripheral land use, the effectiveness of the historical park was low. Third, the passive feature-preservation methods such as the preservation of the exposed site in architectural methods, the reproduction of the dugout hut, and the planting Royal azaleas or displaying stone after covering up the location of the pit dwellings with soil and the usage mainly for viewing have weakened the identity of the historical park. Fourth, the fence preventing users' access interferes experiencing the features, and the vertical structure protecting the upper part of the exposed features has overwhelmed the landscape of the historical parks. Fifth, it was difficult to figure out the feature space only by the texts mainly on terminologies and the excavation photographs presented on the information signs which introduce the buried cultural heritages.

Dwelling reflects the continuance and change that, in general, expresses the era's cultural and social values. The yard of Korean traditional dwelling, although it is an exterior space, it is a companion space that is engaged with the main house. It operates many housing functions that were not achieved within the interior space. After the time of enlightenment, shape, function and the meaning of Korean traditional house yard along with the change of values and major living style has been changing. Therefore, to understand how the Chosun Dynasty's house yard is being used in modern days, this study is based on the research of 47 sites and conducted a study regarding the acculturation and division the house yards. Typical elements in the target garden site that are expressed in a way differentiated from the original form of the Korean traditional house yard were the materials and methods of planting, the use of garden ornaments, paving materials, the use of water, and changes in kitchen gardens. As the role of house yards changes, the modern division of the style of gardens occurred; the areas in a garden have been divided and the form of a garden has been differentiated according to the limit and initiative. The pursuit of ornamentality and practicality led to the differentiation of gardens' functions, while seeking after convenience resulted in the division of gardens' materials. The use of gardens has also been differentiated by adding commerciality and a concept of open garden in both symbolic and daily manners.

This study tracked the changing process of unregistered private house gardens by using the form at the time of the construction of gardens as the prototype of each garden, investigated the spatial value of the garden, and discussed the historical spatial value of unregistered private house gardens in terms of inheritance and change of traditional gardens. To this end, targeting on unregistered private house gardens in Gangwon-do, which are in danger of preserving their gardens due to the recent increase in the number of designated cultural heritage dismantled, the patterns of unregistered private house gardens, their characteristics and values were identified through the spatial change of the garden, and the following results were derived. First, the unregistered private house gardens were able to inherit and maintain the form of a traditional garden, being located in a clan village. The garden space was divided by the influence of Confucian philosophy, and the components of the garden, tree species and planting methods appeared differently. In other words, the use of garden components according to the status hierarchy appeared. Second, space reduction was continuously confirmed at four target sites. The reduced spaces are garden spaces, and part of the garden was attributed to the state due to the building of new road and environmental improvement project. The reduced spaces are garden spaces, and part of the garden was attributed to the state due to the new road and environmental improvement project. Third, eight old big trees over 100 years old were identified in three of the four target sites, and the garden components such as stone water tanks, quickset doors, and ponds were commonly identified in Korea, China, and Japan during the Joseon Dynasty, inheriting the historicity of the traditional garden.
Lacquer, in addition to high-end crafts such as lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl, was an important strategic material used in a wide range of fields such as industry, architecture, and munitions during the Japanese colonial era. In particular, as the demand for lacquer used in munitions soared in the 1940s when the war started, a ticket system was introduced to restrict its distribution. Meanwhile, Japan experienced a chronic shortage of lacquer as a result of the rapidly increasing demand for it, and thus went on to import Chinese lacquer after the late 19th century. After the 1910s, the market share of Chinese lacquer reached 90%, and the local situation in China began to affect the supply and demand for lacquer in Japan. To counteract the issue, the Japanese government increased the production of lacquer in Joseon. As for the project to increase lacquer production in Joseon, objective indicators were prepared through a number of tests in the 1910s and 20s, which paved the way for the project to begin in earnest in the 1930s. Lacquer trees were planted and training classes on how to collect lacquer were held throughout the country. The Japanese government promoted the lacquer production industry as a promising side job for Koreans. The project, implemented in various parts of the country, reaped fruitful results, and it provided the basis for lacquer production in Korea that has continued to this day. At that time, the major regions in the southern part of the country where the project was concentrated were Wonju, Okcheon, and Hamyang, regions that are still known today as major production sites. The improved method of collecting lacquer taught to Koreans by the Japanese has now become the main method of collecting lacquer in Korea. This study attempts to identify the current status of the project to increase lacquer production through various records from the Japanese colonial era with a view to contributing to the study of modern lacquer craft history.

China is a one of the largest agricultural countries in the world. China consumes around 12.5 billion kilograms of seeds each year. Suchhuge demand for seeds has made the Chinese seed market more and more attractive for investment. Through analysis on the present situation and existing problems of the seed industry in China and based on the current Chinese seed industry development, some future prospects for investments are indicated. This investigation was carried out to propose the appropriate strategies on the development of the Korea seed industry as it considers its entry into the China seed market as a new growth engine in the agricultural sector. The basic law regulating the Chinese seed industry is the PRC Seed Law that generally refers to the protection of germplasm resources, verification of varieties, seed quality issues, the import and export of seeds, seed administrative management, and various rights and obligations. The regulations were aimed at the protection of the rights concerning new varieties of plants. China has two main industry associations, the National Seed Association and the China Seed Industry IP Union, that are non-profit associations consisting of entities and people engaging in the seed scientific research, production, operation and management. The China National Seed Group Co., Ltd. ("Sino Seeds") is the market leader in China regarding the seed industry. The chinese government, however, encourages investment from multinational companies as well as importation of modern crop planting management technologies and equipment. It supports the entry of investors with proven experiences in breeding and germplasm resources expansion and R&D. There has never been a better time for multinational companies with proven seed industry experience to look at building relationships with the Chinese government and enterprises.

Improving the taste of rice in the breeding process is one of the important goals. However, it takes a lot of time and effort to select lines with good grain quality. MAS related to rice quality can help quickly and accurately select the elite lines in breeding programs. QTL qTV9, derived from Wandoaengmi 6, has been reported as a marker associated with improved glossiness of rice (Park et al., 2019). To confirm the function of QTL qTV9, 186 RILs derived from Hwayeong/Wandoaengmi6 were cultivated on ordinary planting cultivation for five years. The average DTH of Hwayeong and Wandoaengmi 6 was not significant at 99 and 97 days, respectively, but the averages of TV (toyo value) were 72.6 and 86.0, respectively. The DTH and TV of RIL vary from year to year. In 2017-2018, the average DTH was 98 days, which was significantly higher than the other three years. In 2018 and 2021, the average TV was 79.5 and 86.5, respectively, which were significantly higher than in other years. As a result of correlation analysis, DTH in the different years showed highly significant positive correlations (r = 0.71-0.92) from 0.71 to 0.92, whereas TV showed positive but weaker correlations (r = 0.42-0.71). The correlation between DTH and TV in each year was significant but weak (r = 0.25-0.64) and there was no correlation in 2017. The TV (77.6-88.7) of RILs with QTL qTV9 was significantly higher than that of RILs without qTV9 (72.6-84.9) for all five years. As a result of analyzing TV by DTH group, the TV of the lines with qTV9 in DTH groups (93-97) and (98-103) showed a significantly higher trend for all 5 years. And TV was not significant in DTH groups A, B, E, and F. This may have been influenced by factors such as insufficient populations between groups or differences in harvest timing. This study is expected to be used as data for improving the glossiness of cooked rice in breeding programs, and further study of the QTL qTV9 marker is required.

Maize is one of the world's three largest crops and has a long cultivation history, and is an important crop used for various purposes such as food, feed, and industrial raw materials. Recently, the agricultural environment is changing, in which the limit of cultivation of crops is shifted to the north due to the rise in temperature due to climate change. This study was conducted in experimental field of Suwon in 2022 by setting a seeding period earlier than the sowing time to establish the North Korean agricultural climatic zone and meteorological conditions. The test cultivars were silage cultivars, Kwangpyeongok and Dacheongok. As a priming test method, it was used to directly plant seeds in the field through immersion using 4mM zinc (Zn) and 2.5mM manganese (Mn), which are trace elements for seeds. The planting season was early on March 15th, April 1st, and April 15th. The number of days from sowing to silk stage of the two cultivars sown on March 15, April 1, and April 15 was 107, 93, and 85 days for Kwangpyeongok and 109, 95, and 87 days for Dacheongok, respectively. The seed priming test did not show any difference from the control group in the growth survey up to the middle stage of growth. In another test, low-temperature recovery was confirmed through nitrogen (2-5%) foliar fertilization after 3 days, 5 days, and 7 days in refrigeration (0 degrees), a selective low temperature treatment for com in the third leaf stage. As a result of this study, it was confirmed that the low-temperature damaged com treated at 0℃ showed the same growth as that of the untreated com through nitrogen foliar fertilization. These results suggest that urea foliar fertilization for low-temperature damage reduction of corn for silage in high-latitude climates will be helpful. In addition, through the results of the study, additional studies are needed on the recovery mechanism and field application through urea foliar fertilization.
