  • Loose parts monitoring system(LPMS) is one of the important monitoring systems for the safe and efficient operation of the nuclear reactor, since it is LPMS that can early detect loose parts which may cause a significant damage in facilities or components of the plant. Nuclear power plants in Korea have recently experienced several loose part alarms due to the metallic impact and it is expected that the frequency of the loose part will be increased along the aging of the plants. In this paper, the status of loose parts monitoring technologies and facilities in Korean nuclear power plants is presented for the establishment of LPMS installation plan in some nuclear reactors which are not yet equipped with LPMS. Sensor specification, location and mounting method for loose parts monitoring were reviewed. As a result, the location and the mounting method of the properly chosen sensor was recommended. Data acquisition algorithms and discriminating rules of loose part impact signals were also reviewed. Actual alarm cases occurred by true impact signal and false impact signal were stated here.

  • Blackgram (Vigna mungo) is more salt tolerant than mungbean (Vigna radiata). This study was initiated to know whether the accumulation pattern of mineral ions in different plant parts plays a significant role in the differences in salt tolerance between the two Vigna species. Different mineral ions, viz. N, Cl, Na, K, Mg and Ca in different organs of two varieties of each of blackgram- Barimash-l (susceptible one) and Barimash-2 (tolerant one), and mungbean-Barimung-3 (tolerant one) and Barimung-4(susceptible one), were analyzed after growing with 0, 50, 75 and 100 mM NaCl solutions. The two crops showed a decreased but similar pattern of total N accumulation under saline conditions. The tolerant variety of both the crops showed a less reduction in total N than the susceptible one. Leaves showed the maximum while stem the minimum N, irrespective of levels of salinity. C $l^{[-10]}$ and N $a^{+}$ accumulation increased with the increasing salinity levels. Interestingly, similar to a halophyte, the salt tolerant blackgram exhibited conspicuously higher amount of N $a^{+}$ in the shoot than the salt-susceptible mungbean. However, the tolerant varieties showed less amount of N $a^{+}$ than the susceptible one, especially in blackgram. Seeds of both Vigna spp. accumulated the minimum amount of N $a^{+}$ than other plant parts. $K^{+}$ accumulation decreased by salinity in most of the plant parts, except seeds. Blackgram showed larger reduction in K than mungbean. The $Mg^{++}$ increased in leaves, petioles and stem by salinity while decreased in the roots, podshells and seeds in both the crops. Salinity increased $Ca^{++}$ accumulation in all plant-parts except roots of both Vigna spp. Apparently, the leaves of mungbean accumulated higher concentration of $Ca^{++}$ than blackgram. Varietal differences in the accumulation pattern of $K^{+}$, $Mg^{++}$ and $Ca^{++}$ were not clear. It was concluded that blackgram, presumably, possesses a similar salt tolerance mechanism to halophyte, and the pattern of accumulation of mineral ions in blackgram and mungbean was not fully ascribed to the differences in salinity tolerance between the two Vigna species.gna species.ies.s.ies.

  • This study was conducted to investigate antioxidative and physiological activities of ethanol extracts from different parts (flower, leaf, root, and the whole plant) of Taraxacum officinale. The ethanol extracts from different parts were measured to examine total flavonoids content, total polyphenol content, elect ron donating ability, superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity, nitrite-scavenging ability and tyrosinase inhibition effects. Total flavonoids content in leaf extract (41.66 mg/g) and total polyphenol content in flower extract (71.91 mg/g) were higher than those of other parts. All assays were conducted at concentrations of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 1 mg/mL ethanol extracts. The electron donating abilities of leaf, flower, the whole plant, and root extracts were 92.25%, 88.18%, 84.55% and 83.40%, respectively, at a concentration of 1 mg/mL. The activities were concentration dependent. The SOD-like activity of ethanol extracts from different parts was 8.40~11.20% at a concentration of 1 mg/mL. The nitrite-scavenging abilities of flower and leaf extracts measured at pH 1.2 were 47.37% and 47.18%, respectively, at a concentration of 1 mg/mL, which were higher than those of the whole plant and root extracts. Tyrosinase inhibition activity of the leaf extract at a concentration of 1 mg/mL was the highest (34.22%) and that of the whole plant and root extracts was shown to be more than 20%. These results suggest that ethanol extracts from different parts of Taraxacum officinale could be used as antioxidative functional food sources.

  • To establish direct multipropagation through organogenesis from nodal explants of Anoectochilus formosanus Hayata, the nodes were cultured on LS medium containing various concentrations of 6-benzyladenine(BA). High plant regeneration and adventitious bud formation were obtained from supplemented with 4.0mg/l of BA. Plant height was promoted by adding 0.3% activated charcoal. Plantlet regeneration capacity from nodes was depended on nodal parts on the stem, upper position was the best comparing with intermediate and lower.

  • Traditionally gas plant R&D has had a world-wide weak position in terms of high technology. Especially System engineering did not exactly apply to gas plant construction. So, Gas Plant R&D Center is determined to make the establishment of the system engineering for the standard of gas plant. Gas Plant R&D Center has two projects. Firstly, the establishment of the R&D management system. Secondly, the system engineering which is included in the VE concept of EPC parts. But Gas Plant R&D Center exists in the particular conditions for successful development of the new process and core equipments. Now we will describe the establishment of R&D management system and particular conditions(Risk Conditions) for gas plant.

  • There are several bearing system at large steam-turbines in thermal power plant. The bearing system is one of the most important parts of rotating machinery. The steam turbine vibrations mainly depend on the bearing oil the shaft alignment condition. This paper describes on the steam turbine abnormal vibration due to the oil whip in terms of the shaft alignment in the thermal power plant.

  • Several days after culture, the parts around suspensor turned brown. In about 10 days the embryo started to form protocorm sending out hairs through seed coat. Around 20 days after culture, most of the protocorms emerged out of seed coat and some of them began to take green color. When observed two months after culture, the protocorn took the characteristic top-shape feature.

  • The author described four triple hybrids by investigating 5000 specimens collected during a period of ten years from all parts of Korea. He concluded that Key factors used for an identification of triple hybrids were mainly trichom types and acorn cup scales. With a plate showing hybrid plants and fruiting characters (latin and Korean).
