  • The effects of design parameters for small scale hydro power(SSHP) plants due to rainfall condition have been studied. The model to predict hydrologic performance for SSHP plants is used in this study. The results from analysis for rainfall conditions based on Weibull distribution show that the capacity and load factor of SSHP site had large difference between the variation of shape and scale parameter. Especially, the hydrologic performance of SSHP site due to variation of shape parameter varied more sensitive than the case of variation of scale parameter. And also, the methodology represented in this study can be used to decide the primary design specifications of SSHP sites.

  • Feasibility study on conceptual design tool for liquid metal reactor has been conducted to optimize the thermohydraulic and neutronic design parameters. To accomplish this task the neutronic code PRISM, fuel performance code and scaling method have been included into the conceptual design support system. ALMR(PRISM 303MWe) has been adopted as the reference plant and principally according to the power level, conceptual design parameters are optimized so that energy balance and neutronics balance seem to be satisfied. This paper presents only the results of optimization on primary system including the IHX system.

  • Though various techniques have been studied as a way of adjusting parameters of PID controllers, no perfect method of determining parameters is available to date. This paper proposes a new method for enhancing performance of PID controllers by using the characteristics of dual-input describing function (DIDF). In other words, if nonlinear elements with two inputs (DIDF) are connected in series to the plant, the critical point (-1+j0) for Nyquist stability theory can be moved to a position arbitrarily selected on the complex plane by determining necessary coefficients of the DIDF appropriately. This makes the application of the existing conventional PID parameter tuning methods a lot easier, and stability and robustness of the system are improved simultaneously due to the DIDF inserted.

  • 340 MWe circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boiler in Yeosu power station is under construction. The circulating fluidized bed boiler in the Yeosu power plant has a number of differences from other domestic boilers in terms of scale and design. Evaluation of design parameters of the Yeosu CFB boiler should be required because the direct application of existing technology is limited. In this study, design characteristics of the Yeosu CFB boiler was summarized. And thermogravimetric analysis was conducted with comparing other rank coals. Watersteam side heat absorption, flue gas temperature and heat transfer coefficient were calculated by heat and mass balance. Design parameters for the Yeosu CFB boiler were discussed along with typical value in the CFB design range.

  • In this paper, we present an algorithmic technique for determining a feedback compensator which will stabilize the interval dynamic system, specifically, the robust regulator design for interval plants. The approach taken here is to allow the system parameters to live within prescribed intervals then design a dynamic feedback compensator which guarantees closed-loop system stable. The main contribution of this paper is the idea of introducing a "simplified Kharitonov's result" for low order polynomials to search for suitable compensator parameters in the compensator parameter space to make the uncertain syste robust. We also design the robust regulator which will D-stabilize (have the closed-loop poles in the left sector only) the dynamic interval system while having good performance. The nuerical examples are given to show the substantially improved robustness which results from our approach. approach.

  • Reactor control is a standout amongst the most vital issues in the nuclear power plant. In this paper, the optimal design of variable structure controller (VSC) based on the lightning search algorithm (LSA) is proposed for a nuclear reactor power system. The LSA is a new optimization algorithm. It is used to find the optimal parameters of the VSC instead of the trial and error method or experts of the designer. The proposed algorithm is used for the tuning of the feedback gains and the sliding equation gains of the VSC to prove a good performance. Furthermore, the parameters of the VSC are tuned by the genetic algorithm (GA). Simulation tests are carried out to verify the performance and robustness of the proposed LSA-based VSC compared with GA-based VSC. The results prove the high performance and the superiority of VSC based on LSA compared with VSC based on GA.

  • In general, the design of fuzzy logic controller has difficulties in the acquisition of expert's knowledge. So, some methods that can optimize the parameters for fuzzy logic controller automatically without expert knowledge was provided. Recently, tuning method for fuzzy logic controller using genetic algorithm(GA) were proposed in many papers. However, those are tuning methods for a part or some part of fuzzy logic controller. In this paper, we proposes auto tuning method for the whole part of tuzzy logic controller, such as parameters of membership functions for antecedence and consequence parts, rule base, scaling factor and the number of rule. Finally, second order dead time plant is provided to show the advantages of the proposed method.

  • The application of Variable Structure System (VSS) to the position control of a Permanent Magnet Synchronus Motor is discussed. VSS is expected to be a powerful and potential tool to construct new control strategy for ac machines, since the resulting system shows robust performance to parametic variations and disturbances. An adaptive VSS which can make corrections or adjustments in the parameters of the control device of the VSS in accordance with the current values of the plant parameters and the constraints on the control is preposed. Various simulation results are reported to show the validity of the proposed control method.

  • The control performances of a fuzzy controller depend on its control rules, I/O membership functions, and scaling factors. Scaling factors are very important to adjust control parameters to the process which is to be controlled. For tuning the sealing factors, trial and error method is used in conventional fuzzy controller, which is very difficult and time consuming. This paper proposes a tuning method of scaling factors based on the concept of tuning rules for the conventional Pl controller parameters. The proposed automatic tuning fuzzy controller was evaluated by computer simulations. Good results have been obtained for the small hydro power plant.

  • In the adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control, from a set of fuzzy IF-THEN rules adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control whose parameters are adjusted on-line according to some adaptation laws is constructed for the purpose of controlling the plant to track a desired trajectory. Most of the research works in nonlinear controller design using fuzzy systems consider the affine system with fixed grid-rule structure based on system state availability. The fixed grid-rule structure makes the order of the controller big unnecessarily, hence the on-line fuzzy rule structure and fuzzy observer based adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller is proposed to solve system state availability problems. Therefore adaptive laws of fuzzy parameters ...
