Continual monitoring of abnormal operating conditions i a key issue in maintaining high product quality and safe operation, since the undetected process abnormality may lead to the undesirable operations, finally producing low quality products, or breakdown of equipment. The statistical projection method recently highlighted has the advantage of easily building reference model with the historical measurement data in the statistically in-control state and not requiring any detailed mathematical model or knowledge-base of process. As the complexity of process increases, however, we have more measurement variables and recycle streams. This situation may not only result in the frequent occurrence of process Perturbation, but make it difficult to pinpoint trouble-making causes or at most assignable source unit due to the confusing candidates. Consequently, an ad hoc skill to monitor and diagnose in plat-wide scale is needed. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical plant-wide monitoring methodology based on hierarchical decomposition and principal component analysis for handling the complexity and interactions among process units. This have the effect of preventing special events in a specific sub-block from propagating to other sub-blocks or at least delaying the transfer of undesired state, and so make it possible to quickly detect and diagnose the process malfunctions. To prove the performance of the proposed methodology, we simulate the Tennessee Eastman benchmark process which is operated continuously with 41 measurement variables of five major units. Simulation results have shown that the proposed methodology offers a fast and reliable monitoring and diagnosis for a large scale chemical plant.

The standards pertaining to the quality of discharged water in sewage treatment plants are strengthening, and accordingly, facilities in sewage treatment plants are being upgraded. In addition, the discharge water quality of sewage treatment plants must be maintained at a high level, and efficient sewage treatment plant operations have thus emerged as a very important issue. For the efficient operation of sewage treatment plants, this study applied a basic blowing amount calculation method based on sewage facilities to evaluate the required oxygen amount and blowing amount according to inflow water quality by logicizing various influencing factors. As a result of calculating the amount of air blown by applying actual April water quality data from sewage treatment plant A to the blower demand calculation developed through this study, it was found that the average amount of air blown was reduced by about 12%. When the blower demand calculation developed here is applied to an actual sewage treatment plant, the amount of air blown can be controlled based on the inflow water quality. This can facilitate the realization of an autonomous control of sewage treatment plants, in contrast to the existing sewage treatment operation method that relies on operational experience of operator. In addition, it is expected that efficient sewage treatment plants can be operated by reducing blowing amounts and power costs, which will contribute to both energy and carbon savings.

There are many cases of production processes which intermittently produce several different kinds of products for stock through one set of physical facility. In this case, an important question is what size of production run should be prduced once we do set-up for a product in order to minimize the total cost, that is, the sum of the set-up, carrying, and stock-out costs. This problem is used to be called scheduling of multiple products through a single facility in the production management field. Despite the very common occurrence of this type of production process, no one has yet devised a method for determining the optimal production schedule. The purpose of this study is to develop quantitative analytical models which can be used practically and give us rational production schedules. The study is to show improved models with application to a can-manufacturing plant. In this thesis the economic production quantity (EPQ) model was used as a basic model to develop quantitative analytical models for this scheduling problem and two cases, one with stock-out cost, the other without stock-out cost, were taken into consideration. The first analytical model was developed for the scheduling of products through a single facility. In this model we calculate No, the optimal number of production runs per year, minimizing the total annual cost above all. Next we calculate No$_{i}$ is significantly different from No, some manipulation of the schedule can be made by trial and error in order to try to fit the product into the basic (No schedule either more or less frequently as dictated by) No$_{i}$, But this trial and error schedule is thought of inefficient. The second analytical model was developed by reinterpretation by reinterpretation of the calculating process of the economic production quantity model. In this model we obtained two relationships, one of which is the relationship between optimal number of set-ups for the ith item and optimal total number of set-ups, the other is the relationship between optimal average inventory investment for the ith item and optimal total average inventory investment. From these relationships we can determine how much average inventory investment per year would be required if a rational policy based on m No set-ups per year for m products were followed and, alternatively, how many set-ups per year would be required if a rational policy were followed which required an established total average inventory inventory investment. We also learned the relationship between the number of set-ups and the average inventory investment takes the form of a hyperbola. But, there is no reason to say that the first analytical model is superior to the second analytical model. It can be said that the first model is useful for a basic production schedule. On the other hand, the second model is efficient to get an improved production schedule, in a sense of reducing the total cost. Another merit of the second model is that, unlike the first model where we have to know all the inventory costs for each product, we can obtain an improved production schedule with unknown inventory costs. The application of these quantitative analytical models to PoHang can-manufacturing plants shows this point.int.
In this paper, we present two sets of fuzzy algorithms for the steam generator level control ; one for the high power operations where the flow error is available and the other for the low power operations where the flow error is not available. These are converted to a PID type controller for the high power case and to a quadratic function form of a controller for the low power case. These controllers are implemented on the Compact Nuclear Simulator at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and tested by a set of four simulation experiments for each. For both cases, the results show that the total variation of the level error and of the flow error are about 50% of those by the PI controllers with about one half of the control action. For the high power case, this is mainly due to the fact that a combination of two PD type controllers in the velocity algorithm form rather than a combination of two PI type controllers in the position algorithm form is used. For the low power case, the controller is essentially a PID type with a very small integral component where the average values for the derivative component input and for the controller output are used.
As the scales & density of the Korean national infrastructures have been increased, they will be identified as rich and attractive potential targets for intensified North Korea's attack in the rear region and terrorism attack. In addition, due to changes in security environment such as drone threats and lack of security forces under the 52-hour workweek law, I think that it is the proper time point to reevaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of the current physical protection system and its shift to a new system. In this study, the direction and improvement of the perimeter physical protection systems of the national infrastructures are to be studied from the viewpoints of its concepts of operations and design methodology, focusing on the nuclear power plant. The reason why we focus on nuclear power plants is because they cause wide-range and long-term damages caused by radioactive materials disperal and pollution, along with short-term damage caused by the interruption of electricity generation in the event of damage to nuclear power plants. With the aim of extracting improvement directions, as we will comprehensively review domestic research trends and domestic·overseas related laws, and consider Korea's specificity, we try to reframe the concept of operation - systematization, mobilization and flexibility -, and establish criteria on system change. In order to improve the technical performance of the new perimeter physical protection system, we study on high-fidelity·multi-methodology based integrated design methodology, breaking from individual silo-type design methods, and I suggest improvement of government procurement, its expansion to export business and other national infrastructure.

The Construction industry is a labor-intensive industry that its labor cost takes up about 30~40% out of the whole construction cost. However, due to a stereotype that on-site work is a 3D job there is a shortage of the labor forces. Modular construction method is to produce modular units in the plant so that workers could work stably. Also, after delivering the module from plant to the site, there will be only installment to be required that shortens construction duration. Even though the modular market is currently expanding based on military facilities in Korea, its best strengths are not demonstrated well which are shortened construction period and low cost. It also causes labor problem of production due to minimum utilization of the modular construction method. Multi-skilled labor means a technician that is able to perform more than two kinds of work with more than two techniques. Multi-skilled labor can proceed smoothly by figuring out the connectivity between the precedent and following operations. Therefore, this research is to apply the concept of Multi-skilled labors, suggest solutions and allocate manpowers efficiently. As a result, it helps to decrease idle manpowers during the operation and the total labor forces can be saved. Low cost is the original strength of the modular which can stand out so the modular market is expected to expand.

The preconditions of the usefulness of an operator safety training model in large plants are the versatility and accuracy of operational procedures, obtained by detailed analysis of the various types of risks associated with the operation, and the systematic representation of knowledge. In this study, we consider the artificial intelligence planning method for the generation of operation procedures; classify them into general actions, actions and technical terms of the operator; and take into account the sharing and reuse of knowledge, defining a knowledge expression ontology. In order to expand and extend the general operations of the operation, we apply a Hierarchical Task Network (HTN). Actual boiler plant case studies are classified according to operating conditions, states and operating objectives between the units, and general emergency shutdown procedures are created to confirm the applicability of the proposed method. These results based on systematic knowledge representation can be easily applied to general plant operation procedures and operator safety training scenarios and will be used for automatic generation of safety training scenarios.

Due to aging of the rural and mountain populations the labor force is reduced. However work intensity continues to increase, thus, there is a need to improve the current effectiveness of forest operations. This study compared and analyzed the Operation productivity and efficiency of planting containerized seedlings using a battery-powered planting auger and a mattock. Growth was also investigated by looking into the initial growth increments in the planted seedlings. Tasks were investigated by analyzing the process and operation time needed to plant 1 containerized seedling using a planting auger and a mattock. The time spent on the various elements of the planting process was measured with a stopwatch but observations were done continuously. Result of the study shows that with the use of a lightweight planting auger the average time spent to plant a containerized seedling is 18.61 seconds while with the use of a mattock it took an average of 26.96 seconds which clearly demonstrates that the planting auger is more efficient in terms of working hours. Working intensity was also analyzed with the use of a portable heart rate monitor (Polar V800). The average increase in heart rate and work intensity index were analyzed for one planting cycle. It was observed that when using the lightweight planting auger, there was a 46.51% increase in the average heart rate while a 74.67% increase in heart rate when the mattock was used which shows that there is a significant increase in heart rate when mattock is used. In addition, work intensity index was observed to be 29.95% and 47.83% when the planting auger and mattock were used respectively. With the continuous use, work intensity index is significantly higher with the use of the mattock as compared to that of the lightweight planting auger. There were no significant differences on the growth increment of seedlings planted using the different tools until a year after planting, however differences in growth increment were observed after a year. A difference of 15.1 cm in height and 3.41 mm in diameter was observed which shows that the use of lightweight planting auger is excellent for planting containerized seedlings.

Sustainable growth of hydroelectric power plants is expected in consideration of climate change and energy security. However, hydroelectric power plants always have a risk of water hammer damage, and safety assurance is very important. The water hammer phenomenon commonly occurs during operations such as rapid opening and closing of the valves and pump/turbine shutdown in pipe systems, which is more common in cases of emergency shutdown. In this study, a computational numerical model was developed using the MOC-FDM scheme to reflect the mechanism of water hammer occurrence. The proposed model was implemented in boundary conditions such as reservoir, pipeline, valve, and pump/turbine conditions and then applied to simulate hypothetical case studies. The analysis results of the model were verified using the analysis results at the main points of the pipe systems. The model produced reasonably good performance and was validated by comparison with the results of the SIMSEN package model. The model could be used as an efficient tool for the safety assessment of hydroelectric power plants based on accurate prediction of transient behavior in the operation of hydropower facilities.
Alfalfa silage and corn silage are the major dairy feeds in most dairy operations in Michigan, USA. In recent years, the need to improve digestible fiber and dry matter intake of forages to meet the nutrient requirements of high yielding dairy cows and the willingness to plant corn specifically for silage has led plant breeders to focus on the brown mid-rib (BMR) trait. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of different ratio of alfalfa to BMR corn silage and ration level of forage neutral detergent fiber (NDF) on animal performance of lactating cows in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This study was conducted at the Upper Peninsula Experiment Station of Michigan State University in Chatham, Michigan, USA. Two different ratios of forage type (high alfalfa silage/low BMR corn silage, AS, and high BMR corn silage/low alfalfa silage, BMRCS) and two different dietary NDF contents (27% NDF, 27 = low forage/high grain feeding, and 33% NDF, 33 = high forage/low grain feeding) were used. The experimental design was a $4{\times}4$ Latin Square with 20 milking cows (12 multiparous and 8 primiparous). This trial had four 21-day periods with 14 d adaptation and 7 d data collection. Milk yield and body condition score (BCS) on the AS-27, BMRCS-27 and BMRCS-33 treatments were significantly (p<0.05) higher than on the AS-33 treatment. Dry matter intake of the AS-27 and BMRCS-27 treatments was significantly (p<0.05) higher than for the AS-33 and BMRCS-33 treatments. Milk urea nitrogen (MUN) on the AS-33 treatment was significantly (p<0.05) higher than on the other diet treatments. A key finding of this study was that the BMRCS-33 (higher amounts of brown mid-rib corn silage than alfalfa silage, high forage and low grain feeding diet at 33% NDF) led to the equal highest milk production whilst having the equal lowest dry matter intake. This study demonstrated that the diet with higher ratio of highly digestible NDF forage such as brown mid-rib corn silage to alfalfa silage could lower grain feeding in the ration.
