Twenty eight bacterial strains were isolated and identified from human oral cavities. These strains were identified as genus 9 Moraxella, 2 Neisseria, 1 Proteus, 6 Bacillus, 5 Staphylococcus, 3 Branhamella and 2 Enterobacter. Two genuses are Gram-positive and four genuses are Gram-negative. In order to search for antimicrobial substances from natural plants, twenty one plant materials being made of perilla leaf as well as spices including garlic and ginger were used. The effects of these plant juices on the growth of oral bacterial strains were investigated. Only garlic juice inhibited the growth of seventeen bacterial strains belonging to 6 kinds of genus.
This review covers general information regarding the green synthesis of antibacterial silver nanoparticles. Owing to their antibacterial properties, silver nanoparticles are widely used in many areas, especially biomedical applications. In green synthesis practices, the chemical reducing agents are eliminated, and biological entities are utilized to convert silver ions to silver nanoparticles. Among the various biological entities, natural plant extracts have emerged as green reducing agents, providing eco-friendly routes for the preparation of silver nanomaterials. The most obvious merits of green synthesis are the increased biocompatibility of the resulting silver nanoparticles and the ease with which the reaction can be carried out. This review summarizes some of the plant extracts that are used to produce antibacterial silver nanoparticles. Additionally, background information regarding the green synthesis and antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles is provided. Finally, the toxicological aspects of silver nanoparticles are briefly mentioned.
In traditional Document Based Configuration Management(DBCM) environment, changes in a system's configurations are hard to be reflected to existing engineering documents. This nature of DBCM triggers unconformities of system configurations which could become great risks. Model-based Configuration Management(MBCM) has been introduced to solve the problem of DBCM by managing system's configurations through an unified model. Therefore, it is important to model engineering documents in a general modeling language, down to low-level information items to develop traceability and flexibility of a system's engineering information. So, in the research, to explore the possibility of Model-based Approach(MBA) in the field of configuration management, a development of a systems requirement document model using SysML based Views & Viewpoints concept has been studied.
Large scale display panel(LSDP) is a main component in the next generation main control rooms. LSDP is located at the front of VDU-based operator's workstation and plays an important role in providing operators with overall information of plant status through mimic diagram, text/digit, graph, and so on. A critical matter determined at the first stage of LSDP design is how much information is displayed, because the information density of LSDP affects operator's performance. Many human factors guidelines recommend low information density of displays to avoid degrade of operator's performance, but doesn't provide a useful limit of information density. In this paper, we considered information density as the number of plant parameters and investigated the proper number of plant parameters through a human factors experiment. The experiment with 4 subjects was carried out and response time, error, and heart rate variation as criterion measures were recorded and analyzed. As the results, it is identified that the proper number of parameters in a LSDP is about thirty.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are endogenous, non-coding, small RNA molecules consisting of 21-24 nucleotides (nts) that regulate target genes at the posttranscriptional level in plants and animals. In plants, miRNAs negatively regulate target mRNAs containing a highly complementary sequence by either mRNA cleavage or translational repression. MiRNAs are processed from single-stranded precursors containing stem-loop structures by a Dicer-like enzyme and are loaded into silencing complexes, where they act on target mRNAs. Although plant miRNAs were first reported in Arabidopsis 10 years later than animal miRNAs, numerous miRNAs have since been identified from various land plants ranging from mosses to flowering plants, and their roles in diverse aspects of plant developmental processes have been characterized. Furthermore, most of the annotated plant miRNAs are evolutionarily conserved in various plants. In particular, recent functional studies using Arabidopsis mutants have contributed a great deal of information towards establishing a framework for understanding miRNA biogenesis and functional roles. Extensive appraisal of miRNA-directed regulation during a wide array of plant development and plant responses to environmental conditions has confirmed the versatile roles of miRNAs as a key component of plant molecular biology.
Plants and microorganisms (microbes) use information from chemicals such as volatile compounds to understand their environments. Proficiency in sensing and responding to these infochemicals increases an organism's ecological competence and ability to survive in competitive environments, particularly with regard to plant-pathogen interactions. Plants and microbes acquired the ability to sense and respond to biogenic volatiles during their evolutionary history. However, these signals can only be interpreted by humans through the use of state-of the-art technologies. Newly-developed tools allow microbe-induced plant volatiles to be detected in a rapid, precise, and non-invasive manner to diagnose plant diseases. Beside disease diagnosis, volatile compounds may also be valuable in improving crop productivity in sustainable agriculture. Bacterial volatile compounds (BVCs) have potential for use as a novel plant growth stimulant or as improver of fertilizer efficiency. BVCs can also elicit plant innate immunity against insect pests and microbial pathogens. Research is needed to expand our knowledge of BVCs and to produce BVC-based formulations that can be used practically in the field. Formulation possibilities include encapsulation and sol-gel matrices, which can be used in attract and kill formulations, chemigation, and seed priming. Exploitation of biogenic volatiles will facilitate the development of smart integrated plant management systems for disease control and productivity improvement.

In this study, we aimed to study carnation italian ringspot virus (CIRV) in Erigeron annuus (L.) Pers. in Bonghwa County, Korea. The collected samples showed mosaic and malformation symptoms. To identify the virus species, we performed high-throughput sequencing, reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, and cloning. The virus was confirmed to be an unreported species, and therefore we performed genome sequencing of the samples. The complete genome was 4,746 nucleotides in length. The CIRV contained five open reading frames (ORFs), and it showed the typical features of members of the genus Tombusvirus. Phylogenetic analyses revealed that ClRV isolates had the highest nucleotide identities with the CZ isolate (95.89%) from Korea. In recent years, these viruses have sporadically been reported in floral scent and medicinal plants. This research found the first natural host infected with CIRV, and provides baseline information to determine the correlation between weeds and crops.
The research trend in the corrosion behaviour of stainless steel weldment has been reviewed. The welding technology plays an important role in the fabrication of structure such as chemical plant, power plant, because welding can influence various factors in the performance of plant and equipment. This has led to an increasing attention towards the corrosion behaviour of weldment which has been one of the major issues for both welding and corrosion research engineers. The aim of this paper is to give a short survey of the recent technical trends of welding and corrosion including the electrochemical corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion fatigue in connection with the welding materials, welding process, and welding fabrication. This study covers the corrosion behaviour of stainless steel weldment collected from the COMPENDEX DB analysis of published papers, research subject and research institutes.
