  • Condition based maintenance(CBM) for the preventive diagnosis of important equipments related to safety or accident in power plant is essential by using the suitable methods based on actual power plant conditions. To improve the reliability and accuracy of the measured value at the minute leak situation, and also to monitor continuously internal leak condition of power plant valve, the development of a diagnosis and monitoring technique using multi-measuring method should be performed urgently. This study was conducted to estimate the feasibility of multi-measuring method using three different methods such as acoustic emission(AE) method, thermal image measurement and temperature difference$({\Delta}T)$ measurement that are applicable to internal leak diagnosis for the power plant valve. From the experimental results, it was suggested that the multi-measuring method could be an effective way to precisely diagnose and evaluate internal leak situation of valve.

  • The purpose of this paper is to obtain enthalpy balance and exergy analysis for the energy losses in a steam power plant. The enthalpy and exergy analysis of the steam power plant were carried out on the various output of steam turbine. While enthalpy analysis shows that circulating loss in the condenser is maximum, exergy evaluation of the power plant shows that the losses of the boiler and turbine are considerably larger than those of condenser and feed water heater. Most irreversible losses of the power plant occur at the boiler. For improving the performance, the precise study about the irreversible losses of the boiler is necessary.

  • In order to analyze the causes of fossil power plant facilities due to a degradation and corrosion, artificial degraded materials composed of the facilities were manufactured. Various experiment were performed based on mechanical test, microstructure observation, hardness test, electrochemical potentiokinetic reactivation test(EPR) and corrosion scale thickness measurement test. The master curves were write out using Larson-Miller parameter to evaluate the degree of degradation with the above diagnosis methods. These data were applied to materials database of fossil power plant diagnosis. Finally expert system on the fossil power plant diagnosis was developed using the master curves and diagnosis algorithms.

  • Ethanolic extracts of twenty-one plant species were tested in vitro for their fungitoxic properties against leaf spot causing pathogen of mulberry Myrothecium roridum by poisoned food technique. Ethanolic extracts of twenty-plant spp. reduced mycelial growth of M. roridum significantly except E. pulcherrima. Highest inhibition of M. roridum colony growth observed in 10% extracts of E. citriodora (49.45%) followed by D. metel (39.45%), Chromolaena odoratum (25.56%) and A. sativum (25.00%). Among the concentration tested, 10% concentration was found significantly higher effective on reducing colony growth followed by 5 and 2.5%. Aqueous extract fresh leaves/bulb of seven short-listed plant spp. (inhibition>15% in ethanolic extracts) revealed that D. metel inhibited (23.43%) followed by E. citriodora (14.66%), C. odoratum (13.53%). On dry leaf extracts D. metel was found more effective than E. citriodora. The results indicated that D. metel, E. citriodora, C. odoratum and A. sativum having high fungitoxicity against M. roridum and ethanolic extract found more effective than aqueous extract.

  • This paper describes characteristics and procedure of the basic design of large scale solar thermal power plant system. The evaluation is based on the operating data of CESA-I, solar central receiver plant. In order to evaluate the solar irradiation on the receiver, it is necessary to calculate the amount of thermal energy consumption at steam turbine and storage system in the STPPS. Especially, it is need to take into account of the storage and operating time to design a plant efficiently. In addition, basic design is performed for the CESA-I using the software tool of THERMOFLEX program. Based on the results, It is at lowed to use the program to investigate detail performance of each units of the STPPS by varying the operating conditions.

  • This study suggests the effectiveness of an "extended" power system evaluation methodology based on LCA and energy input-output analysis techniques. This "extended" evaluation methodology is designed to incorporate total energy system costs through fuel cycle and external costs, including CO$_2$abatement cost. As an empirical test, we applied the methodology to orimulsion-fired power generation technology and found that orimulsion could be considered as in attractive base-load power generation fuel in terms of economic and environmental aspects, compared to conventional coal-fired power plant.

  • Recently, electric industry confront a strategical change and high competiveness environment in the course of deregulation. Especially, rapid growth in electricity demand, financial need for new power plant construction, and environmental problems have led to search for more efficient energy production and energy conservation technologies in Korea. Due to the potential energy and cost savings, DSM(Demand-Side Management) plays and important role in the electric resource planning. In this paper, we suggest DSM potential evaluation procedures and algorithm. Also, we present screening analysis methods for DSM potential evaluation.

  • The in situ nylon bag degradation and in vitro intestinal digestibility of dry matter (DM), and crude protein (CP) of mulberry (Morus alba) plant fractions was studied at four harvest stages, 3 (W3), 5 (W5), 7 (W7) and 9 (W9) weeks. Degradability of DM and CP of the whole plant and stem fractions declined significantly (p<0.01) with advancing plant maturity in the order W3>W5 and W7>W9 and W3>W5>W7>W9, respectively. The degradation of DM and CP of the leaf fraction was also influenced by plant maturity but no trend was observed. The degradation of DM and CP of the whole plant and leaves increased rapidly during the first 48 and 24 h of incubation, respectively, when maximum degradation was reached. In vitro intestinal digestibility of CP was more influenced by the residence time in the rumen than by plant maturity. This study showed that mulberry is suitable as a supplement, particularly to low-quality roughages, in providing a source of rapidly available nitrogen to the rumen microbes, hence improving the roughage degradability and intake.

  • The structure and combustion characteristics, and the economic feasibility of the circulating fluidized bed combustion(CFBC) boiler using low grade coal were introduced. The economic feasibility is evaluated by comparing a 500 MW CFBC boiler power plant using low grade coal and a pulverized combustion boiler power plant with high grade coal. As the result of the evaluation, the pulverized coal combustion boiler power plant has an internal rate of return of 12.95%, 1,395.9 billion Korean won of net present value, and 6.26 years of payback period. On the other hand, CFBC boiler power plant has an internal rate of return of 13.54%, 1,704.3 billion Korean won of net present value, and 6.02 years payback period. Therefore, the CFBC boiler power plant has better feasibility in all aspects, as 0.59% higher of internal rate of return, 308.4 billion Korean won of higher net present value and 0.24 year of shorter payback period.

  • The probabilistic seismic safety assessment is one of the methodology to evaluate the seismic safety of the nuclear power plants. The site characteristics of the nuclear power plant should be reflected when evaluating the seismic safety of the nuclear power plant. The Korea seismic characteristics are strong in high frequency region and may be different from NRC Regulatory Guide 1.60, which is the design spectrum of nuclear power plants. In this study, seismic response of a nuclear power plant structure by Pohang earthquake (2017.11.15. (KST)) is investigated. The Pohang earthquake measured at the Cheongsong seismic observation station (CHS) is scaled to the peak ground acceleration (PGA) of 0.2 g and the seismic acceleration time history curve corresponding to the design spectrum is created. A nuclear power plant of the containment building and the auxiliary buildings are modeled using OPENSEES to analyze the seismic response of the Pohang earthquake. The seismic behavior of the nuclear power plant due to the Pohang earthquake is investigated. And the seismic performances of the equipment of a nuclear power plant are evaluated by the HCLPF. As a result, the seismic safety evaluation of nuclear power plants should be evaluated based on site-specific characteristics of nuclear power plants.
