  • This study analyze the architectural space in the aspect of the 'Raumplan' and 'Plan Libre'. These concepts based on the 'Raumplan versus Plan Libre' exhibition in Delft University, Netherlands. It is generally agreed that the concept of 'Plan Libre' in connection with Le Corbusie architecture and 'Raumplan' related to Adolf Loos's works. that exhibition contents was focused an extent of modem architecture. But, These concepts continually influence contemporary architecture and offer diverse vision in architecture. Therefore, this study focused on the analysis that look for common element in the space through the case study and space element connection in change of the values, technical growth. This Paper reveals that Adolf Loos's Raumplan is similar to Louis I. Kahn's 'Room' concept and Ando Tadao's centrifugal space composition method In the dwelling architecture. And the concept 'Plan Libre': non-definitive formal system and the elements : column, free form screening wall is revived as formal application of 3 dimension composition in architecture. and transfer lots, void, and linear space in Rem Koolhaas's urban design projects. These aspects is so called topology. This topological concept is an attempt in view of the space connection state rather than formative viewpoint.

  • Purpose: This paper tried to understand the architectural concept of Neo Corbusian architects who had succeed to the Le Corbusier's principles of modern architecture and developed into their own creative architecture and formed a big achievement in the contemporary architecture. As representative Neo Corbusian architects, Henri Cirianni, Alvaro Siza and Laurant Beaudouin were selected to study their own design concepts and principles. Method: Three step study was conducted for the paper; Firstly, investigated significant differences about modern architecture between Le Corbusier and three neo corbusian architects; Secondly, analyzed the architectural meanings of 'Plan Libre' and 'Promenade Architecture' of three neo corbusian compared to Le Corbusier's ones; Finally, deducted their own design process to integrate the architectural concept of 'Plan Libre', 'Promenade Architecture' and 'Natural Light into architectural design. Results: According to the results of the research, Henri Cirianni, Alvaro Siza and Laurant Beaudouin made a splendid progress of Corbusier's modern concept, and then, created his own originative architecture by combining Plan Libre', 'Promenade Architecture' and 'Natural Light.

  • This Study starts from a recognition that the architecture is based on the process demanded by substantial needs as well as pure theoretical logic system. So this study aims at proposing another point of view differentiating process and principle of architecture from pure theoretical logic system in the creative process of the Governor's Palace by analyzing drawings in chronological order. Even though the Governor's Palace had not been built because of discord between authorities of India and Le Corbusier, it is undoubtedly one of the best proposals which contains very concepts and ideas of later Le Corbusier's architectural intentions. In the first design stage, overall conception of the building was carried out in the sketches and drawings till Jan, 1954 and in the second stage, the elaboration of the project was pursued till Mar. 1995. The scheme tends to begin too large and general in character, becoming tighter and more complex under pressure from the client and adjustments required by the design process itself. For example, scale reduction, division and development of internal circulation system and applying his early 'Five Points'. So new solutions are searched by oscillating between compromise modifications and radically different solutions in contracting the first ideas. From all these, it is concluded that the early doctrine (Five Points) are adjusted and extended towards another stage by the use of restricted pilotis, the concept of fenetre en longueur transformed into a sub stricture of facade, sustained concept of le plan libre, les toits jardins extended towards concept of the urban area. And these formal intentions of the Governor's Place has been carried through other contemporary projects like Mill Owner's Association in 1954 and Villa Shodan in 1952.
