  • In the 1970s, Korea actively produced so many animated works which is called the "golden age" of korean animation. However, Korea imported and subcontracted foreign animations than creating original works and, there has been a constant controversy that many of the korean animations imitated foreign works. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the factors that caused this and its patterns, focusing on works suspected of plagiarism in Korean animation during the 1970s and 1980s. First, the focus will be on the definition and composition of plagiarism in art creation, secondly, on the political-ideological, industrial-administrational, production-structural, and copyright awareness aspects of the factors of plagiarized animation. Thirdly, 30 korean animations produced at the time will be analyzed on the degree of design theft and plagiarism based on six criteria focusing on characters' shapes and color arrangements. By analyzing the social factors and patterns of plagiarism, this study aims to provide a social and cultural understanding of academic value about the process of korean animation's development.

  • We propose an adaptive method for detecting plagiarized pairs from a large set of source code. This method is adaptive in that it uses an adaptive algorithm and it provides an adaptive threshold for determining plagiarism. Conventional algorithms are based on greedy string tiling or on local alignments of two code strings. However, most of them are not adaptive; they do not consider the characteristics of the program set, thereby causing a problem for a program set in which all the programs are inherently similar. We propose adaptive local alignment-a variant of local alignment that uses an adaptive similarity matrix. Each entry of this matrix is the logarithm of the probabilities of the keywords based on their frequency in a given program set. We also propose an adaptive threshold based on the local outlier factor (LOF), which represents the likelihood of an entity being an outlier. Experimental results indicate that our method is more sensitive than JPlag, which uses greedy string tiling for detecting plagiarism-suspected code pairs. Further, the adaptive threshold based on the LOF is shown to be effective, and the detection performance shows high sensitivity with negligible loss of specificity, compared with that using a fixed threshold.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the most common misconducts in publication ethics, to demonstrate KODISA journals' management of the misconducts, and to share the findings with future and potential authors of Journal of Research and Publication Ethics (JRPE). Research design, data and methodology: This is an analytical study that explores and examines research and publication ethics and misconducts. Results: Based on literature review, major publication misconducts that many academic journals had to contend with over the years encompass unethical authorship, including ghost, guest, and gift authorships, data falsification and fabrication, plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, submission and publication fraud (multiple submission and publication), and potential conflicts of interest. Conclusions: KODISA and its journals have strived and done great work in making the journals transparent and in combatting the issues associated with plagiarism, including self-plagiarism. However, it seems there is no mechanism to detect or deter unethical authorship, conflicts of interest, and fabrication and falsification misconducts. The inception of JRPE signifies how KODISA and its journals continuously view research and publication ethics as their foremost important factor in maintaining and improving the academic journals. The future research and scholastic manuscripts of JRPE could provide necessary and updated information about research and publication ethics, practices, and misconducts.

  • Program plagiarism is a significant factor to reduce the quality of education in computer programming. In this paper, we propose the technique of identifying similar or identical programs in order to prevent students from reckless copying their programming assignments. Existing approaches for identifying similar programs are mainly based on fingerprints or pattern matching for text documents. Different from those existing approaches, we propose an approach based on the program structur. Using paring progrmas, we first transform programs into XML documents by representing syntactic components in the programs with elements in XML document, then run X-tree Diff+, which is the change detection algorithm for XML documents, and produce an edit script as a change. The decision of similar or identical programs is made on the analysis of edit scripts in terms of program plagiarism. Analysis of edit scripts allows users to understand the process of conversion between two programs so that users can make qualitative judgement considering the characteristics of program assignment and the degree of plagiarism.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the related factors of learning ethics of dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 278 dental hygiene students in G metropolitan city from June 9 to July 29, 2016. The data were analyzed by frequency analysis, percentage and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS 12.0 program. The questionnaire comprised learning ethics (10 items), condition of learning ethics (10 items), reason of plagiarism (8 items), intellectual property right consciousness (8 items), internet ethics consciousness (20 items), individual ethics consciousness (2 items). Results: Condition of learning ethics was higher in mosaic plagiarism (33.9%). The main reason of plagiarism was higher in lack of time (52.7%). Related factors with the intellectual property right consciousness was use of reference (${\beta}=0.424$), internet expectancy (${\beta}=0.228$) and parental rearing attitude (${\beta}=0.229$) (Adjusted $R^2=0.336$). Related factors with the internet ethics consciousness were parental rearing attitude (${\beta}=-0.241$), academic achievements (${\beta}=0.420$), internet expectancy (${\beta}=-0.368$) and grade (${\beta}=-0.154$)(Adjusted $R^2=0.390$). Related factor with the individual ethics consciousness was academic achievements (${\beta}=0.445$) (Adjusted $R^2=0.192$). Conclusions: To increase the learning ethics and preventing plagiarism, it is necessary to have essential understanding and practice to make the liberal arts education and extracurricular program of institutions.

  • Plagiarism refers to the act of using the original data as if it were one's own without revealing the source. The plagiarism of source code causes a variety of problems, including legal disputes. Plagiarism in software projects is usually determined by measuring similarity by comparing every pair of source code within two projects. However, blindly comparing every pair has been a huge computational burden, causing a major factor of not using tools of better accuracy. If we can only compare pairs that are probable to be clones, eliminating pairs that are impossible to be clones, we can concentrate more on improving the accuracy of detection. In this paper, we propose a method of selecting highly probable candidates of clone pairs by pre-classifying suspected source-codes using a machine-learning model called code2vec.

  • In this study, we investigated how scientists and teachers engaged in mentoring program are conducting research ethics education and how they are creating an ethical educational environment. A questionnaire survey was given to 32 scientists and 44 teachers conducting mentoring programs for gifted high school students. In the content of research ethics education, most of the respondents opined that they should teach against falsification, plagiarism, and fabrication. Teachers were most likely to teach ethical decision-making in each step of the research process. Most of the scientists said that they should teach how to write research note. For the difficulties, the teachers pointed out the challenging system that focuses only on college entrance exams while the scientists answered that it was difficult to recognize research ethics as the problem of the students themselves. For the teachers, the most affective factor in creating an ethical research environment is the amount of time to teach research ethics while for the scientists, it is the ethics of the mentors. For creating an ethical research environment, the teachers responded with making an atmosphere wherein failure is tolerated, and the scientists responded with increasing the degrees of freedom in results. For the difficulties of creating an ethical research environment, the teachers were constrained by research time while the scientists were pressured about the results. These results provide implications for ways to teach research ethics and for ways to create an ethical research environment in the mentoring program for science-gifted students.
