Development of Dynamic Vibration Absorber to Reduce Unbalance Response in Flexible Rotor-Bearing System (탄성 회전체 베어링 계의 불균형 응답 저감을 위한 동흡진기 개발)

  • This paper presents a novel dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) to suppress the unbalance response of flexible rotor-bearing systems. The DVA unit consists of two DVAs, an adapter to place the DVAs and an adapter frame to locate the adapter. The essential feature of the proposed DVA unit is to place itself on any desirable location of the shaft without disassembling the rotor-bearing system under consideration. A simulation with a 3D element based commercial rotor dynamic software is made to test the possibility of the proposed DVA on the suppression of unbalance response in rotor-bearing systems. Experiments are performed to validate the proposed DVA unit. The simulation and experiments show that the proposed DVA unit is very effective to suppress the unbalance response in rotor-bearing system at designated rotational speeds of interest.

Studies on the Improvement and Analysis of Data Entry Error to the AIS System for the Traffic Ships in the Korean Coastal Area (우리나라 연안해역을 통항하는 선박에 대한 AIS 데이터 입력 오류의 분석 및 개선 방안 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to survey input data error of ship automatic identification system (AIS) and suggest its improvement. The effects of AIS were observed. Input data error of AIS was investigated by dividing it into dynamic data, static data by targeting actual ships and its improvement method was suggested. The findings are as follows. Looking into accidents before and after AIS is enforced to install on the ship, total collision were decreased after AIS installed. Static data error of AIS took place mainly in the case that ship name, call sign, MMSI, IMO number, ship type, location of antenna (ship length and width) were wrongly input or those data were not input initially. Dynamic data error of AIS was represented by input error of ship's heading. As errors of voyage related data take place as well, confusion is made in sailing or ship condition. Counter measures against the above are as follows. First, reliability of AIS data information should be improved. Second, incessant concern and management should be made on the navigation officers.

A Quantitative Study on How Internet Search Ads Generate Consumer Traffic to Advertisers' Website

  • This study aims to measure the impact of these two variables on consumers' 'click-through' rates (the number of users that click on the ad compared to the number of times the ad is delivered). The result is as follows. First, search ads play a critical role in drawing consumers to advertisers' websites. Once search ads are placed, the number of visitors increased tenfold. Secondly, when search ads are keyed to highly-involved words such as 'IDC', 'hosting' and 'co-location', click-through rates significantly fluctuate according to the type of advertising message. In this case, consumers respond much more positively to ads highlighting credibility and product quality than to ads with emphasis on sales and events. Thirdly, the placement of search ads also matters. The ad placed first in the search list overpowers ads in the third or fifth place in terms of click-through rates. However, there was no significant difference of click-through rates between ads in the third place and ads in fifth. Lastly, when estimating which variable plays the bigger role in bringing traffic to advertisers' websites, consumers are more receptive to the substance of the advertising message than to its placement, under the circumstances of high involvement.

A Study on Childhood Injury (학령전개 아동의 사고실태)

  • Injuries are important causes of death and disability. The Purpose of this study was to determine how often preschoolers have injuries and what factors affect the injury occurrences. The sample consisted of 360 Preschoolers who were registered at eight nurseries located in Sedaemoongu. Seoul. The data were analyzed using the SAS PC statistical package. The results of the study are as follows: During last 12 months 73.1% of 360 preschoolers had accidental injuries In an analysis of the location where the injury took place, showed that the most places were in the nursery(17.3%) and around home(14.4%), and the most place inside home were in the bedroom(13.9%) and living room(13.9%). There were the diverse and injurious risks inside the home as well as around home. The most frequent type of injury was abrasion(27.5%) and most children injured their legs(28.3%). They were treated most frequently at home(52.8%) and usually emergency treatment was performed by family members with disinfection being the main type of first aid To identify factors related to injury occurrence, multiple logistic regression was performed and the main factors were the age of child, active tendency, and mother's education level.

Cartographic Characteristics of the 'Carte do Cassini' and Its Place in the Development of Cartography (카시니 지도의 지도학적 특성과 의의)

  • The Carte do Cassini is the first accurate topographic map of an entire country and it influenced enormously in the development of cartography in other countries. The purpose of this paper is to examine the production process and characteristics of the Carte do Cassini, and to and the place of 'Carte de Cassini' in the development of cartography. For this, firstly, the background of French national topographic mapping is examined and scientific work of the Cassini family is resumed. Second, the map production process is considered; location and attribute data collection, copperplate printing, social and economic difficulties. Third, map characteristics such as map projection, sheet numbering system, positional accuracy, legend, typographies, and depiction of cartographic signs are explored. Finally, the influence of the Carte de Cassini on cartographic development and its historical meaning is discussed.

  • As a response to Peter Jackson's call for a Southeast Asian Area Studies beyond Anglo-America, this paper argues that the achievement of this salient objective hinges on an understanding of the idea of positionality and what it entails. Drawing from reflections from Filipino scholars, positionality can be understood not merely as one's determination through geographic location or self-knowledge of one's condition within the politics of knowledge production; rather, it is the power and opportunity to claim a place from which one understands reality in one's own terms, and the capacity to effect influence within her intellectual domain. In redefining positionality as such, one realizes that crucial to establishing Southeast Asian Area studies beyond Anglo-America is acknowledging the importance of the vernacular in the production and circulation of knowledge, as well as the constant danger of English as the global lingua franca, established in the guise of an advocacy that resolves unevenness by providing equal opportunity for all intellectuals to gain "global prominence." This paper argues that, instead of trying to eradicate unevenness, one can acknowledge it as the condition of being located in a place and as a privileged position to think and create beyond the shadow of Anglo-American theory.

  • Location-based services have distinctive service characteristics compared to the past online commerce used on the desktop. In any place, mobile communication devices can be used to access online and utilize online shopping, and it is more convenient for users. In addition, by providing shopping and service information specific to each location, it is possible to provide convenience to the consumers according to their locations. In addition, it provides scarcity of information as well as location, thereby increasing consumers' desire to purchase. In this study, we investigated the effect of scarcity on the Purchase intention of consumers in location-based services. The steps of scarcity are: first, a step without scarcity, Second, providing time limit information, Third, providing quantity limitation information, Fourth, the experiment was designed to provide time and quantity limitation, and 4 groups were analyzed through experimental stimuli The purpose of this study is to verify the moderating effect of the dependent variable on the degree of scarcity by adding 'ubiquity', 'interactivity' and 'privacy' which are characteristics of location-based service. As a result of the analysis, scarcity of time and scarcity of quantity limitation scarcity stimuli showed a moderating effect on ubiquity, interactivity and consumer's purchase intention, and these variables also directly or indirectly affected positively. Consumer confidence was found to have a negative effect on consumers' purchase intentions.

  • The mobile phone and wireless network, location based technology and other newly introduced technologies and communication media gave birth to the new terminology "ubiquitous" and are changing our daily life. Influence of such technologies and communication media is not an exception in the arts. New media art pieces using these technologies are increasing, and taking on the characteristics of public art within a wider scope of a city as a backdrop, beyond the traditional boundaries of art galleries. Of such art, locative media art using locative media has a closer relationship with city space than any other form of an, and makes various attempts to allow the spectator to reinterpret and experience city space and induce communication. These characteristics of locative media art can be considered as a method that can solve quality problems of the city space, especially the loss of the sense of place and the absence of communication. is one such locative media project with a purpose of solving quality problems of city space, especially the recovery of commercial sites and inducing communication. This project uses the paths of the city as its canvas, movement of people as its brush, the color of the roads as its pallet, and by allowing the partakers to draw paths of their own and to share their paths with others. People are encouraged to share stories about their paths. The project proceeds using barcodes that are frequently used commercially. When users wish to create their own place, they can enter their place and colors of their choice using input devices installed in the city space. Paths that are created through such a process will be displayed in public areas throughout the city, shared with others, and can create and share a stories about the city using on/off-line media.

A Study on the Humanities of the Placeness and Local cuisine in Busan (부산의 장소성과 향토음식에 대한 인문학적 고찰)

  • This study focused at the local and historical characteristics of Busan from the perspective of local culture, along with the local characteristics of Busan. Busan's local cuisine has been reborn and continues to this day, influenced by the geographical and historical characteristics of the place. Places are not merely spatial points marked by coordinates, but are also semantics that include the human experience and emotional aspects of living in them. A place is a mix of culture, a human response to the visible environment and the environment. An understanding of a place provides a basis for understanding personal geography, culture, and history. .One of the specialties of an area with its location is the local cuisine. Local cuisines are not immutable, as they can change according to the characteristics of the area and the preferences of the residents. Busan's local cuisines reflect the geographical features of the city, and include Busan's historical experiences. First, anchovies and eel are well known for their location as ports bordering the sea. Second, Dongnae Pajeon and Sanseong Makgeolli are made using marine products and grains. Thirdly, during Japanese occupation, fish cake and sliced raw fish was enjoyed by residence in Busan. And finally, Milmyun and Pork Soup, the food made by refugees who came down to Busan and settled down during the 1·4 retreat. The local cuisine, which represents an area, goes beyond simply being eaten, enjoyed, and consumed as a commodity, and is a symbol of the geographical and historical characteristics of the area.

Emotional Experience of Korean Urban Elderly in Everyday Lives using Experience Sampling Method: A focus on gender differences (경험표집법을 통해 살펴본 도시노인의 일상생활 경험: 공간/대인맥락과 정서경험에서의 젠더차이를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine everyday emotional experience of urban elderly in Korea. Specifically, this study explores gender differences in the effect of place/location of activity and companionship on the daily emotional experience. Data were collected from 148 urban elderly (men=76, women=72) in Seoul, using Experience Sampling Method(ESM). The unit of analysis was the self-report and in total 5,530 self-reports were provided. The statistical methods used for the data analyses were descriptive statistics, t-test, χ2 verification, and ANOVA. The major findings are as follows. First, the elderly in Korea spend a quite substantial portion of their time at home, and they spend the largest share of their time in company with their spouse. Second, women report higher intensity of stress and irritation than men in terms of overall emotional experience. Third, the effect of activity location and companionship on emotional experience turned out to be different depending on gender. Emotional experience of daily lives and overall quality of life are shown to be inter-related. Based on these findings, this study provides a significant implication that situational contexts of experience should be considered in order to understand the daily emotional experience of the contemporary Korean elderly.
