Failure analysis of pre-insulated pipe (SPPS 380, 400A) transporting high temperature water ($95{\sim}110^{\circ}C$) for a plant was carried out. The damaged area (${\Phi}5mm$) of pre-insulated pipe was found only on welds. The chemical composition of damaged pipe meets specification of carbon steel pipes for pressure service (KS D 3562). As results of microstructure analysis, crack propagated from outer to inside after pitting corrosion occurred on the outside surface. The non-metallic inclusion existed on the end of crack. And the non-metallic inclusion continuously and linearly formed along with the bond line of welds. Based on SEM-EDS analysis, the nonmetallic inclusions have higher Manganese (Mn) and Oxygen (O) content but sulfur (S) was not detected. As results of water quality analysis, hydrogen ion concentration and minerals like Fe, Mg, Si were in low level. But the content of dissolved oxygen (11.2 ppm) was slightly higher than that of standard. It seems that the cause of damaged pipe is grooving corrosion due to MnO inclusion formed on bond line and corrosion took place nearby welds.

The basic concept of 'tooth profile modification' is to change a part of the involute profile to reduce the load in that area and appropriate profile modifications can help gears to run quietly and resist scoring, pitting and tooth breakage. In this study, the modification of tooth profile to make a smooth transmission of the normal loads in spur gears has been developed. The modified tooth profile has been determined by the total deflection at contact points. We use the AGMA Standard to design basic gear profile, We also developed a gear design Program using tooth profile modification

In this paper, various electrochemical experiments were conducted in seawater solution to evaluate corrosion damage behavior of arc thermal sprayed Inconel 625 coating on SS400 steel in marine environment. As a result, corrosion damages of thermal sprayed Inconel 625 coating preferentially occurred at the defect area, and they were observed as a form of pitting corrosion in the galvanostatic experiments. In Tafel analysis, corrosion current density of Inconel 625 coating was relatively high due to influence of interconnected pores and Cr oxides in the thermal spray coating layer. On the other hand, the result of the potential measurement, thermal sprayed Inconel 625 coating should need the post-treatment which can compensate the defects like pores and cracks because Inconel 625 coating presented a higher potential of about 290 mV than that of the SS400 steel.

Stainless steel wire has been used in industry, dental and medical parts. Especially, it has been used widely for the dental orthodontic materials. The orthodontic wire requires good mechanical properties, such as elastic strength, combined with a high resistance to corrosion. To increase elastic strength and good corrosion resistance, drawing methods(one-step and two-step drawing) have been used and the electrochemical characteristics of drawed wire have been researched using potentiodynamic method in 0.9%NaCl and field emission scanning electron microscope. The one-step drawed wire showed the formation of rough surface. The hardness and tensile strength of two-step drawed wire increased. For the case of two-step drawed wire, the corrosion resistance and pitting potential increased compared with one-step drawed wire due to the drawing induced small surface roughness, such as scratch. The passivation and active current density decreased as the reduction in area for drawing increased.
The characteristics of cavitation-erosion damage with changes in the amplitude of 5052-O aluminum alloy for ships were investigated in a seawater environment. In the cavitation-erosion experiment, the cavitation environment was created using a vibration-generating device with a piezo-electric effect. The amplitudes of 5 ㎛, 10 ㎛, and 30 ㎛ were created by changing the geometric shape of the cavitation horn. The resistance characteristics of cavitation-erosion damage were evaluated by weight loss and pitting area. The damaged surface was analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and 3D optical microscopy. As the amplitude increased, the amount of damage and the area of the damaged surface increased, and the damage was concentrated at the center and edge of the specimen. The pit was created after the initial incubation period with increasing experimental time, and then the pits were merged to grow and propagate into craters, and eventually, the surface was detached and damaged. The cavitation-erosion damage after 30 minutes with amplitude of 10 ㎛ and 30 ㎛ was 1.48 and 2.21 times compared to 5 ㎛, respectively.
This study investigated the damage to the specimen due to liquid droplet impingement erosion corrosion, which improved the corrosion resistance and durability via hard anodization of 5083-H321 aluminum alloy, which is widely used for small ships and marine structures. The experiment combined liquid droplet impingement erosion and electrochemical equipment with the flow rates in natural seawater solution. Subsequently, Tafel extrapolation of polarization curves was performed to evaluate damage due to the liquid droplet impingement erosion corrosion. The damaged surface was observed using a 3D microscope and a scanning electron microscope. The degree of pitting damage was measured using the Image J program, and the surface hardness was measured using the micro-Vickers hardness tester. The corrosion current density, area, depth, and ratio of the damaged areas increased with the increase in flow rate. The grain size of the damaged area at a flow rate of 20 m s-1 showed fewer and minor differences in height, and a smooth curved shape. The hardness of the damaged surface tended to decrease with increase in flow rate.
This paper selected three kinds of grease with the same type but different consistency for the experiment. The purpose of the experiment is tested the effect of different consistency of grease on the wear of the gear surface. Different torque test groups were selected in the test, and the lubrication effect of different greases was tested in the test groups with the same torque. After each set of tests, the wear of the gear surfaces was observed and recorded. The data recorded in the experiment included the area of the wear area on the gear surface, the type of wear and the volume of wear. After the test, the gear surface roughness was measured. By calculating the wear volume, the effects of different concentrations of grease on the gear surface wear were compared. The experimental results show that under different stress conditions, the consistency of the grease has a great influence on the lubricating effect of the gear surface and the gear wear. Under the condition with low speed and high torque, different grease consistency affect the gear surface wear, the high consistency grease can reduce the wear of the gear surface, so that the gear can get better lubrication effect during the work.
An unfavorable tipping movement can occur during the retraction of anterior teeth because orthodontic force is loaded by brackets positioned far from the center of resistance. To avoid this unfavorable movement, a compensating curved wire or lingual root torque wire is used. The purpose of this study is to investigate, using photoelastic material, the distribution of initial stress associated with the retraction of the incisors according to the degree of the compensating curve, to model changes associated with tooth ud alveolar bone structure. The following results were obtained by analysis of the polarizing plate of the effects of initial stress resulting from retraction of the anterior teeth: 1. When the incisors were retracted using combination archwire or sliding mechanics, the maximal polarizing pattern of the apical area decreased as the degree of the compensating owe increased from 0 to 15 to 30. 2. When the incisors were retracted by the combination archwire or sliding mechanics, the maximal polarizing pattern of the canine and premolar area increased as the degree of the compensating curve increased from 0to 15to 30. 3. A lower degree of polarizing patterns were associated with the combination archwire technique than the sliding mechanics technique at a given force. The above results indicate that there is no significant difference between the combination loop archwire technique and sliding mechanics, for the retraction of maxillary anterior teeth with decreased lingual tipping tendency by a compensating curve on the arch wire. However, the use of sliding mechanics is more effective for the prevention of lingual inclination of the anterior teeth, because the hook used in sliding mechanics is closer to the center of resistance of the maxillary anterior teeth.
Metal aluminum, of which has a low standard reduction potential, participates in the electrochemical oxidation reaction and results in the structural change and accompanying property variation of aluminum and its oxide film. Aluminum was electrochemically etched in acid solution and the surface area was magnified by the formation of high density etch pits. Etched aluminum was covered with a compact and dense dielectric oxide film by anodization and applied to the capacitor electrode. Anodization of aluminum in acid solution at low temperature makes a nanoporous aluminum oxide layer which can be used for the fabrication template of nanostructural materials. Electrochemical characteristics of aluminum turn the metal aluminum into functional materials and it will bring the diverse applications of metal aluminum.
