  • We have garnered 3,593 data of gas [Natural Gas (NG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)] accidents reported for 16 years from 1991, and then analyzed the accidents according to their types and causes based on the classified database. According to the results the gas leak has been the most common accident followed by the explosion and then fire accidents. The most frequent accident-occurring locations for fire, explosion and leak are recognized around the valve, hose and pipeline, respectively. In addition, we have applied the Poisson analysis to predict the most-likely probabilities of fire, explosion and release in the upcoming 5 years. From this research we have assured the successive database updating will highly improve the anticipating-probability accuracy and thus it will play a key role as a significant safety-securing guideline against the gas disasters.

  • Underwater Wireless Sensors Networks (UWSNs) are deployed in remotely monitored environment such as water level monitoring, ocean current identification, oil detection, habitat monitoring and numerous military applications. Providing scalable and efficient routing is very challenging in UWSNs due to the harsh underwater environment. The biggest difficulties are the nodes inherent movement due to water current, long delay in data transmission, low bandwidth of the acoustic signal, high error rate and energy scarcity in battery powered nodes. Many routing protocols have been proposed to solve the aforementioned problems. There are three broad categories of routing protocols namely depth based, energy based and vector-based routing. Vector Based Forwarding protocols perform routing through virtual pipeline by defining their radius which give proper direction to packets communication. We proposed a routing protocol termed as Path-Oriented Energy Scaled Expanded Vector Based Forwarding (PESEVBF). PESEVBF takes into account all parameters; holding time, the source nodes packets routing path and void holes creation on the second hop; PESEVBF not only considers the packet upward advancement but also focus on density of the forwarded nodes in terms of number of potential forwarding and suppressed nodes for path selection. Node selection in resultant holding time is based on minimum Path Factor (PF) value. Moreover, the suppressed node will be selected for packet forwarding to avoid the void holes occurrences on the second hop. Performance of PESEVBF is compared with other routing protocols using matrices such as energy consumption, packet delivery ratio, packets dropping ratio and duplicate packets creation indicating considerable performance improvement.

  • In this paper, a DC smoothing filterless soft switching pulse modulated high frequency AC power conversion circuit connected to utility. frequency AC power source is proposed for consumer induction heating hot water producer, steamer and super heated steamer. The operating principle of DC link filterless utility frequency AC-high frequency AC (HF AC) power conversion circuit defined as high frequency cycloinverter is described, which can operate under a principle of ZVS/AVT and power regulation based on alternate asymmetrical PWM in synchronization with the utility frequency single phase AC positive or negative half wave voltage. The dual mode modulation control scheme based on high frequency PWM and commercial frequency AC voltage PDM for the proposed high frequency cycloinverter are discussed to enlarge its soft switching commutation operating range for wide HF AC power regulation. This high frequency cycloinverter is developed for high frequency IH Dual Packs Heater (DPH) type boiler used in consumer and industrial fluid pipeline systems. Based on the experiment and simulation results, this high frequency cycloinverter is proved to be suitable for the consumer use IH-DPH boiler and hot water producers. The cycloinverter power regulation and power conversion efficiency characteristics are evaluated and discussed.

  • A demand of marine outfall system has been much increased for the effective disposal of the wastewater due to population and industrial development at the coastal areas. The outfall system discharges primary or secondary treated effluent into the coastline, or at the deep water, or between these two. The discharge is carried out by constructing a pipeline on the sea bed with a diffuser or with a tunnel, risers and appropriate. The effluent, which has a density similar to that of fresh water, rises to the sea surface forming plume or jet, together with entraining the surrounding salt water and becomes very dilute. Thus there have been growing interests about plume behaviour around the outfall system. Plume or jet discharged from single-port or multi-port diffuser might cause certain impacts on coastal environment. Near field mixing characteristics of discharged water field using CORMIX model have been studied for effective outfall design various conditions on ambient current, depth, flow rate, effluent concentration, diffuser specification, port specification etc.. This kind of analysis is necessary to deal with water quality problems caused by the ocean discharge. The analyzed result was applied to the Pusan Jungang effluent outfall system plan.

  • A national standard system was developed in order to calibrate and test the oil flowmeters for the petroleum field. A stop valve and a gyroscopic weighing scale were employed for the primary standard of the flow quantity. It is operated by the standing start and finish mode and the static weighing method. The model equation for uncertainty evaluation was based on the calibration principle of standard system. The sources of the uncertainties were quantified and combined according to the GUM(Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement). It was found that the standard system had the relative expanded uncertainty of 0.04 % in the range of 18 - 350 ㎥/h. According to the uncertainty budget, the uncertainties of the fluid density and the volume of pipeline, which were temperature dependent, contributed 92% of final uncertainty in the oil flow standard system.

  • A pipe jacking method complements the excavation method and it is a non-excavation method which is thrust in the earth. On that score, using the pipe jacking method is increased because of constructability and economical efficiency in a medium or small-sized pipeline construction. However, a pipe jacking method still has several problems that the base ground is disturbed and loosen. Especially, where some sites have boulders, gravels and foreign bodies, the foundation is brought about deformation, settlement and leakage of water. Thus, the end of the construction the ground should be reinforced by grouting and it occur with additional expenses. Therefore, a steel pipe jacking method with grouting, Grout In Pipe, is devised newly to complement the existing method. In this study, it describes a new method and verifies efficiency, an application and practicality of the method through a experimental construction.

  • Stress-corrosion cracking (SCC) of alloy 600 and alloy 800 in 0.5 mol/L thiosulfate solution during constant strain was investigated using electrochemical noise (EN) combined with 3-D microscope techniques. The in-situ morphology observation and EN results indicate that the SCC process could be divided into three stages: (1) passive film stabilization and growth, (2) crack initiation, (3) and crack growth. Power Spectral Density (PSD) and the probability distribution obtained from EN were used as the "fingerprint" to distinguish the different processes. During passive film stabilization and growth, the current noise signals resembled "white noise": when the crack initiated, many transient peaks could be seen in the current noise and the wavelet energy at low frequency as well as the noise resistance decreased. After crack propagation, the noise amplitudes increased, particularly the white noises at low and high frequencies ($W_L$ and $W_H$) in the PSDs. Finally, the detection of metal structure corrosion in a simulated sea splash zone and pipeline corrosion in the atmosphere are established.

  • The dissolved air flotation (DAF) process has been widely used for removing suspended solids with low density in water. It has been known as measuring the size of microbubbles precisely which move upward rapidly in contact zone is difficult. In this study particle counter monitoring (PCM) method is used to measure the rising microbubble after injection from a nozzle. Size and distribution curve of microbubbles are evaluated at different conditions such as pressure drop at intermediate valve, length of pipeline between saturation tank and nozzle and low pressure. And the efficiency is also checked when it collides with different size floc. The experimental results show the following fact. As the final pressure drop occurred closer to a nozzle, the bubble size became smaller. And small bubble collides with large floc as well as small one because of its physical characteristic. However large bubble collides well with large floc rather than small one since hydrodynamic flow in streamline interferes to collide between two. With performing computational process by mathematical model we have analyzed and verified the size effect between bubble and floc. Collision efficiency is the highest when P/B ratio shows in the range of 0.75 < P/B ratio ($R_{particle/Rbubble}$) < 2.0.

  • Formation and transportation of $CO_2$-hydrate slurry was conducted by circulating saturated water with $CO_2$ through a double-tube type heat exchanger which was cooled down by brine. The inner diameter and circulation length of the heat exchanger were 1 inch and 20 m, respectively. Water in tank was supersaturated by injected $CO_2$ and the operation pressure was maintained at 3,000 to 4,000 kPa with fluid-temperature of less than $9^{\circ}C$. $CO_2$ hydrate mass fraction was calculated based on density of $CO_2$-hydrate slurry mixture. Results showed that the $CO_2$-hydrate slurry could be circulated without blockage for 1 hr. Circulation status of the $CO_2$-hydrate slurry was also visualized.
