This study concentrated on a report on the results of smelting experiments conducted eight times by the Jungwon National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, put together the goals and results of the operation, and examined changes in the content of experiments and in the experimental results. First, changes related to operation, such as the ratio of raw materials to fuel and the presence or absence of additives, were reviewed depending on the operation goal. In addition, the results of metallurgical analysis of raw materials, formations, and byproducts were summarized and reviewed by comparing them with materials excavated from the ruins. The operation method varied up to the eighth smelting experiment in terms of iron ore roasting, additives, and raw material/fuel ratio. After reviewing the results again, pure iron with a low carbon content began to be confirmed through metallurgical analysis. As a result, it was confirmed that the charging ratio of raw materials and fuel plays an important role depending on the purpose of production. In addition, most of the products are gray cast iron, and it was deemed that this is due to changes in the internal structure of the pig iron while it was left in the furnace for a long time. The iron was an ingot that was in a molten state even though the carbon content did not reach 4.3%, where the process reaction takes place, and it was deemed to have been caused by excessive operating temperature. Based on the previously reviewed results and the structure and shape of the experimental furnace used in other ironmaking technology restoration experiments, this study finally attempted to restore the structure of an ancient iron smelting furnace, including the furnace's upper structure. By comprehensively referring to the remaining conditions of the excavated iron smelting furnace and the characteristics of the blow pipe, the form of the ancient iron smelting furnace was subdivided into six categories: furnace wall thickness, furnace height, blower height, blow pipe size, furnace inner wall shape, and top shape, and a restoration plan was proposed. To improve the problems of the restoration plan and the Jungwon National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage's experiments that have been conducted through continuous trial and error, an experiment that reflects changes in operating methods by lowering the furnace height and controlling the blowing volume is necessary.

The objective of this study is to propose a modification of the previously proposed drainage system for catching the partial leakage of underground concrete structures. Two techniques were proposed for applying the drainage system only to the leaking parts. One was for conveying leaking groundwater to the collection point in the drainage system and the other was for conveying the collected groundwater to the primary drainage system of the underground concrete structure. Four waterproofing materials for conveying leaking groundwater to the catchment point of the drainage system, Durkflex made of porous rubber material, KE-45 silicone adhesive with super strong adhesion, Hotty-gel made of polymeric materials and general silicone adhesive were evaluated for waterproofing performance. Hotty-gel only showed perfect waterproof performance and the other three waterproof materials leaked. The modified drainage system with Hotty-gel and drainage pipe with fixed saddle to convey the leaking groundwater from the catchment point to the primary drainage system were tested on the concrete retaining wall. The waterproof performance and the drainage performance were evaluated by injecting 1,000 ml of water in the back of the modified drainage system at the 7-day, 14-day, 21-day, 28-day, 2-month and 3-month. There was no problem in waterproof performance and drainage performance of the modified drainage system during 3 months. In order to evaluate the construction period and construction cost of the modified drainage system, it was compared with the existing leaching repair method in surface cleaning stage, leakage treatment stage, and protective barrier stage. Total construction period and construction cost were compared in considering the contents of work, repair material, construction equipment, working time, and total number of workers. As a result of comparing and analyzing in each construction stage, it was concluded that the modified drainage system could save construction period and construction cost compared to the existing leaching repair method.

The local scour in waves can be thought of as very complex synthetic processes which is influenced by geology of bed material, bed flow in the sea and hydraulics condition. The most research until now be targeted at the scour depth and therefore the local scour width in waves has not been investigated as well. The size of wave or bottom velocity at the bed is direct cause of the local scour among lots of the scour effect factors, and the scour depth and width can be estimated through interrelationship analysis with scour area to use the dimensionless parameters including these such as Keulegan-Carpenter number, Ursell number etc. In this paper, to find out closely relation with the dimensionless parameters and scour width, performed an experiment with the variations of pipe diameters, wave heights and wave periods and then analyzed it. As the result, while Reynolds number and period parameter were seen to disperse local scour width largely, Shields number, KC number and Ursell number appeared good interrelationship. Specially, Shields number doesn't much affect the scour depth but has good relation for the scour width.

The scaffolding system, which is a construction workbench of the cargo containment for a membrane LNG carrier, is a large truss structure composed of various members. To shorten the installation period and process of the scaffolding system, it is effective to enlarge the mounting unit from the existing two stages to eight stages. Owing to the increase in lifting load according to the large size of the module, the stresses around the pin and hole will be increased significantly. In this study, a tensile strength test and contact stress analysis were performed to confirm the structural safety. The relatively large hole deformation was observed visually near the average load generated in the vertical pipe at the top through tensile strength tests. A contact stress calculation confirmed the stress distribution around the hole. The contact problem was dealt with in terms of the Herzian contact stress. The possibility of 8-stage loading was examined by comparing the yield strength and contact stresses of failure critical locations. As a result, the 8-stage loading method of the existing scaffolding material was inadequate, and a new loading method with proper safety is proposed.
Occurrence of hydrogen embrittlement could be one of the main obstacles for using structural equipment under hydrogen environment. It is required to develop assessment methods of hydrogen embrittlement for the metals used in production, storage, transmission and application utilities of hydrogen. The most probable method of hydrogen mass transmission is using existing natural gas pipeline. Base or weld part of the pipeline can be damaged by mixed gas of hydrogen in the pipeline. In this study small punch (SP) testing was employed to evaluate the hydrogen embrittlement behavior for a line pipe steel (API X65) with electrochemically hydrogen charged specimens. Results showed that the SP test can be a good candidate test method for hydrogen damage evaluation method. Strength of steel is known to be decreased with the level of hydrogen charging. However, for API X65 steel base metal need in this study, the effect of hydrogen to strength was not significant. It can be negligible regardless of the hydrogen contents in the steel. With this test different strength levels with various hydrogen charging conditions were observed. It can also be anticipated that more sensitive evaluation of material behavior be obtainable by the SP test method.
This experimental study is aimed at evaluating the hydrodynamic performance of newly designed self-expandable graft stents under steady flow condition. Two graft stents with different coating materials and a bare TiNi metallic stent for comparison test were used in the experiment. Pressure variation and velocity distribution at the upstream and downstream of the stents were measured at flow rates of 5, 10, and 15 l/min, respectively. Pressure loss due to insertion of the stent increased with increasing flow rate exponentially as expected. At a flow rate of 15 l/min, pressure loss of Polyure-thane(PU)-coated graft stent was 6 times higher than that of TiNi metallic stent, while the pressure loss of a porous Polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)-coated graft stent was comparable to a bare TiNi metallic stent. Velocity profiles of the porous PTFE-coated graft stent were similar to those of a bare TiNi metallic stent regardless of flow rate. Furthermore, the velocity profile of PU-coated graft stent revealed an asymmetrical and relatively low central velocity at a higher flow rate than 10 1/min, expecially, where the effects resulted in increases of wall shear stress and normal stress. The worse hydrodynamic behavior of PU-coated graft stent than the other two stents might be attributed to formation of folds due to poor flexibility of coated material when inserting the graft stent into the pipe with a more smaller size, which later gave rise non-symmetry of flow area, increase of surface roughness and jet flow via the crevice between the stent and cylinder wall.

A system for diagnosing surface defects of long and large pipe inner overlay welds, 1m in diameter and 6m in length, was developed using a Liquid Penetrant Test (PT). First, CATIA was used to model all major units and PT machines in 3-dimensions. They were used for structural strength analysis and strain analysis, and to check the motion interference phenomenon of each unit to produce two-dimensional production drawings. Structural strength analysis and deformation analysis using the ANSYS results in a maximum equivalent stress of 44.901 MPa, which is less than the yield tensile strength of SS400 (200 MPa), a material of the PT Machine. An examination of the performance of the developed equipment revealed a maximum travel speed of 7.2 m/min., maximum rotational speed of 9 rpm, repeatable position accuracy of 1.2 mm, and inspection speed of $1.65m^2/min$. The results of the automatic PT-inspection system developed to check for surface defects, such as cracks, porosity, and undercut, were in accordance with the method of ASME SEC. V&VIII. In addition, the results of corrosion testing of the overlay weld layer in accordance with the ferric chloride fitting test by the method of ASME G48-11 indicated that the weight loss was $0.3g/m^2$, and met the specifications. Furthermore, the chemical composition of the overlay welds was analyzed according to the method described in ASTM A375-14, and all components met the specifications.

This study investigated the occurrences, causes, and mitigation of the recent ground subsidence and underground cavity generation events in Korea. Two main causes of ground subsidence are (1) the soil erosion by seepage during tunneling and earth excavation and (2) the damage of underground pipes. The main cause of the soil erosion during tunneling was the uncontrolled groundwater flow. Especially, when excavating soft grounds using a tunnel boring machine (TBM), the ground near TBM operation halt points were found to be the most vulnerable to failure. The damage of underground pipes was mainly caused by poor construction, material deterioration, and differential settlement in soft soils. The ground subsidence during tunneling and earth excavation can be managed by monitoring the outflow of groundwater and eroded soils in construction sites. It is expected that the ground subsidence by the underground pipe damage can be managed or mitigated by life cycle analysis and maintenance of the buried pipes, and by controlling the earth pressure distribution or increasing the bearing capacity at the upper ground of the buried pipes.
The virgin and recycled polyethylene composites with various ratio of fly ash were manufactured by using a fully intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder for the reuse of fly ash from power plant and post-consumed polyethylene. Fly ash were blended with virgin HDPE and recycled polyethylene at the weight fraction of 0 to 40 wt.%. Mechanical properties such as yield strength, abrasion resistance, and slow crack resistance were measured with ISO and ASTM standards. The experimental results for the various composites showed that the elongation at break and the yield stress of the composites decreased with increasing fly ash contents. Generally, the abrasion resistance of PEs decreased with increasing sandpaper grits but the abrasion resistance of the composites increased with fly ash content at finer abrasive surface. The slow crack growth resistance of virgin HDPE, recycled JRPE and the JRPE composite showed higher slow crack growth resistance up to 50% of load at notch depth of 20% and 30%, but KRPE and the KRPE composite showed much lower resistance than virgin HDPE, JRPE and the JRPE composite. Time to break, measured with NCLS test method, of all PEs and the composites satisfies the regulation of Korean Industrial Specification for sewer pipe and support application.

Geographic Information System The geographic information system (GIS) has been limited to the government and some public sectors. Recently, the market has been diversified by combining with other areas such as mobile and CRM (Customer Relationship Management). The development direction of GIS technology in the 21st century is Web GIS, 3D GIS, mobile GIS, LBS, etc. as general technology for GIS application system development and spatial information service. In this study, we developed a new concept marking nail (a marking nail with built - in intelligent storage memory device) from the function of simple positioning of a marking nail related to a previously used underground item,, Burial depth, pipe thickness, piping material, management agency, contractor, contact, etc.) and store it in DB server, if necessary.Make it available in the right place. Through this research, it is possible to prevent and minimize various accidents caused by irregular excavation works, etc., and to provide information for establishing countermeasures related to sink holes. In order to provide systematic and reliable information on underground burial management, it was proposed to input information conveniently in the field, and the purpose was to reduce the incidence of buried underground pipes absolutely.
