  • In this paper, we introduce an internal pipeline exploration of an in-pipe robot, based on the landmark recognition system. The fittings of pipelines such as elbows and branches are used as the landmarks. The robot recognizes the landmarks with a vision system by using the shadows of the elements, which are generated by the specially designed illuminator on the robot. By using a simple image-processing, the robot can easily detect and distinguish these landmarks while recognizing the direction of the pipeline path. Simultaneously, all information for exploration is continuously recorded and used to reconstruct the map of the pipelines. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by real experiments using the in-pipe robot MRINSPECT V for moving inside of the miniature urban 8-inch gas pipeline structure.

  • The next generation of diesel engine can operate at high injection pressure up to 1,800bar. The common rail pipe must have higher internal strength because it is directly influenced by the high-pressure fuel. Folding defects in the Common rail pipe can not ensure the structural safety. Therefore, Preform design and fatigue-life analysis are very important for preventing the head of the common rail pipe from folding in the heading process and for predicting fatigue life according to the amount of folding. In this study, a closed form equation to predict fatigue life was suggested by Goodman theory and pressure vessels theory in ASME Code in order to develop an optimization technique of the heading process and verified its reliability through fatigue-structural coupled field analysis. The results calculated by the theory were in good agreement with those obtained by the finite element analysis.

  • 1. In the past, the smoke-pipe type dry kiln being characterized by the low cost of installation and easy operation was only used by the small scale of wood processing enterprisers for drying softwood and finishing air-dried stocks that were belonged to easy drying properties. The smoke-pipe type dry kiln usually was not suitable for drying hardwoods and green woods because of the difficulties of controlling drying conditions. 2. However, the smoke-pipe type dry kiln heated with smokeless coal which was designed and constructed by the authers was demonstrated to maintain higher accuracy of controlling temperature and humidity than the other smillar types of kiln. Also, since it was constructed with home made equipments, it is supposed to offer the opportunity to install the kiln by the small scale of wood processing enterprisers who could not install the dry kiln because of economical and technical difficulties. Thus, it is expected that promoting the spread of installing the dry kiln will realize the rational use of wood.

  • Concerning the apprehensions about naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) residues, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its member nations have acknowledged the imperative to ensure the radiation safety of NORM industries. Residues with elevated radioactivity concentrations are predominantly produced during NORM processing, in the form of scale and sludge, referred to as technically enhanced NORM (TENORM). Substantial quantities of TENORM residues have been released externally due to the dismantling of NORM processing factories. These residues become concentrated and fixed in scale inside scrap pipes. To assess the radioactivity of scales in pipes of various shapes, a Monte Carlo simulation was employed to determine dose rates corresponding to the action level in TENORM regulations for different pipe diameters and thicknesses. Onsite gamma spectrometry was conducted on a scrap iron pipe from the titanium dioxide manufacturing factory. The measured dose rate on the pipe enabled the estimation of NORM concentration in the pipe scale onsite. The derived action level in dose rate can be applied in the NORM regulation procedure for on-site judgments.

  • Results ar presented of a new process for internal precision finishing of slender fine ceramic pipes using a magnetic field generated by a permanent magnets. For finishing the interior surface of a long pipe, a new type of finishing equipment was developed which can be very easily used in an industrial surrounding. In general, the pipe is so slender that a conventional finishing tool is hardly inserted into the pipe deeply, being impossible to finish. Therefore, a new technology has been considered to finish inside of a slender ceramic pipe by a simple technique. In this experimental, Magnetic Abrasive Machining is applied for the inner surface of silicon nitride fine ceramic pipe using ferromagnetic particles mixed with chromium-oxide powder. It is shown the initial roughness of 2.6㎛ Ry(0.42㎛ Ra) in the inside surface can be precisely finished to the roughness of 0.1㎛ Ry(0.01㎛ Ra). This paper discusses the outline of the processing by the application of magnetic abrasive machining and a few finishing characteristics.

  • This paper dealt with numerical estimation of the pressure pulsation of the refrigerant in a suction pipe of the compressor. The behavior of the pressure pulsation was assumed to satisfy the wave equation. The boundary conditions and properties of refrigerant are necessary as input data of the simulation. The pulsating pressures at 15 points in a pipe were measured simultaneously from the pressure transducers. From the experimental data, the complex phase speed and impedance at the end of the pipe of the refrigerant were estimated using the signal processing and used as the input conditions of the numerical analysis. A commercial acoustic software was used to solve the behavior of pressure pulsation. The numerical results for the pressure pulsation in a pipe with and without expansion chamber were carried out and compared with those by experiments. Finally, numerical procedure to estimate the pressure pulsation in a pipe was established and verified.

  • The Pipe bending process using high frequency local induction heating is an advanced technique to bend pipes with a small bending radius and a large diameter. Even though the pipe bending process is a quite widespread engineering practice, it depends heavily upon trial and error method by field engineers with several years of experience. So it is necessary to develop an integrated methodology for optimum design of the pipe bending process. During hot pipe bending using induction heating, outward wall thickness of a pipe is thinned due to tensile stress and the reduction of wall thickness is not allowed to exceed 12.5%. Taguchi method and dynamic reverse moment is proposed to maintain a reduction ratio of thickness within 12.5%, when D/t ratio is high. An application of the proposed approach was compared with those of the finite element analysis and has good in agreements.

  • Early detection of damage bonding state such as insufficient bonding strength and interface partial contact defect for the explosive clad pipe is crucial in order to avoid sudden failure and even catastrophic accidents. A generalized and efficient model of the explosive clad pipe can reveal the relationship between bonding state and vibration characteristics, and provide foundations and priory knowledge for bonding state detection by signal processing technique. In this paper, the slender explosive clad pipe is regarded as two parallel elastic beams continuously joined by an elastic layer, and the elastic layer is capable to describe the non-uniform bonding state. By taking the characteristic beam modal functions as the admissible functions, the Rayleigh-Ritz method is employed to derive the dynamic model which enables one to consider inhomogeneous system and any boundary conditions. Then, the proposed model is validated by both numerical results and experiment. Parametric studies are carried out to investigate the effects of bonding strength and the length of partial contact defect on the natural frequency and forced response of the explosive clad pipe. A potential method for identifying the bonding quality of the explosive clad pipe is also discussed in this paper.

  • It is a tendency where the number of the restaurant is increasing recently with advancement of the food service industry. In comparison, Noxiousness fine MIST and the removal are passively done in about offensive odor which occurs meat products processing as emitting like that in the atmosphere. Because adherence lamination in the exhaustion line pipe has need of a periodic cleaning and change, it must discontinue the business of long time. In this paper, The technique development on fine MIST, dust of offensive odor and filtering which occur meat products processing prevents adherence/lamination of fine MIST in exhaustion line pipe. And the source prevents the environmental matter which is emitted in the atmosphere under maximizing boil offensive odor and the filtering effect of noxiousness MIST.
