적층형 Heat Sink의 열저항 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Thermal Resistance Characteristics of Layered Heat Sink)

  • This paper has been made to investigate the thermal performance characteristics for the several types of layered aluminum heat sinks with offset-strip fin. Heat sinks with different fin height, fin length, number of fin layer and slanted fin are prepared and tested for natural convection as well as forced convection. The experimental results for layered heat sink(LHS) are compared to those for advanced pin fin heat sink (PHS) so that the appropriate heat sink can be designed or chosen according to the heating conditions. The overall heat transfer performances for LHS are almost comparable to those of PHS under natural convection, and become 1.2∼1.5 times as high as those of PHS under forced convection situation. This study shows that fin height and number of fin layer re important parameters, which have a serious influence on thermal performance for layered heat sinks.

자연대류상의 하이브리드 휜 히트싱크의 열특성에 대한 수치적 연구 (Numerical study on the thermal behavior of a natural convection hybrid fin heat sink)

  • 본 논문은 자연대류상에서 냉각되는 하이브리드 휜 히트싱크(Hybrid Fin Heat Sink, HFH)의 열특성에 대한 수치연구결과를 보고한다. HFH는 평판휜이 결합된 내부유로가 있는 핀 휜으로 이루어진 하이브리드 휜으로 구성된다. HFH의 열성능은 상용 CFD 소프트웨어를 이용하여 수치적으로 연구되었고 핀 휜 히트싱크(Pin Fin Heat Sink, PFH)의 열성능과 비교되었다. 수치연구결과를 통해 HFH의 베이스면적기반, 질량기반 열전달계수가 PFH 보다 각각 12%, 37% 우수함을 발견했다. 증대된 표면적과 가벼운 무게는 PFH보다 우수한 HFH의 열성능을 설명할 수 있다.

경사진 충돌제트를 이용한 핀 휜 히트싱크의 열특성 연구 (Heat Transfer Characteristics of Inclined Jet Impinging on a Pin Fin Heat Sink)

  • An inclined jet impinging on a pin fin heat sink is proposed and investigated experimentally. To investigate the flow pattern, flow visualization using fluorescence and velocity measurement using particle image velocimetry(PIV) are conducted with water. The jet impinges over a wide span of the heat sink with a large recirculation in the upper free space and occasionally with another smaller one in the upstream corner. Further, thermal experimentation is conducted using air to obtain temperature profiles using a thermocouple rake in the air and using thermal image on the heat sink back plate, with impinging angles of 35, 45 and 55 degrees. The Reynolds number range based on the nozzle slot is varied from 1507 to 6405. The results show that impinging angle of 55 degree shows the largest heat transfer capability. The results of thermal experiment are compared and discussed with those of flow visualization.

Optimal fin planting of splayed multiple cross-sectional pin fin heat sinks using a strength pareto evolutionary algorithm 2

  • This research aims to demonstrate the optimal geometrical design of splayed multiple cross-sectional pin fin heat sinks (SMCSPFHS), which are a type of side-inlet-side-outlet heat sink (SISOHS). The optimiser strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm2 (SPEA2)is employed to explore a set of Pareto optimalsolutions. Objective functions are the fan pumping power and junction temperature. Function evaluations can be accomplished using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) analysis. Design variablesinclude pin cross-sectional areas, the number of fins, fin pitch, thickness of heatsink base, inlet air speed, fin heights, and fin orientations with respect to the base. Design constraints are defined in such a way as to make a heat sink usable and easy to manufacture. The optimum results obtained from SPEA2 are compared with the straight pin fin design results obtained from hybrid population-based incremental learning and differential evolution (PBIL-DE), SPEA2, and an unrestricted population size evolutionary multiobjective optimisation algorithm (UPSEMOA). The results indicate that the splayed pin-fin design using SPEA2 issuperiorto those reported in the literature.

핀-휜형 방열판의 설계 최적화 (Design Optimization of a Pin-Fin Type Heat Sink)

  • Design optimization of the heat sink with 7${\times}$7 square pin-fins is performed numerically using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and the Computer Aided Optimization (CAO). In the pin-fins heat sink, the optimum design variables for fin height (h), fin width (w), and fan-to-heat sink distance (c) can be achieved when the thermal resistance ($\theta$$_{j}$) at the junction and the overall pressure drop ($\Delta$p) are minimized simultaneously. To complete the optimization, the finite volume method for calculating the objective functions, the BFGS method for solving the unconstrained non-linear optimization problem, and the weighting method for predicting the multi-objective problem are used. The results show that the optimum design variable for the weighting coefficient of 0.5 are as follows: w=4.653 mm, h=59.215 mm, and c=2.667 mm. In this case, the objective functions are predicted as 0.56K/W of thermal resistance and 6.91 Pa of pressure drop. The Pareto optimal solutions are also presented.re also presented.d.

Optimum Design of a Pin-Fins Type Heat Sink Using the CFD and Mathematical Optimization

  • The shape of $7\times7$ pin-fins heat sink is optimized numerically to obtain the minimum pressure drop and thermal resistance. In this study, the fin height (h), fin width (w), and fan-to-heat sink distance (c) are chosen as the design variables and the pressure drop $({\Delta}P)$ and thermal resistance $(\theta_j)$ are adopted as the objective functions. To obtain the optimum design values, we used the finite volume method for calculating the objective functions, the BFGS method for solving the unconstrained non-linear optimization problem, and the weighting method for predicting the multi-objective problem. The results show that the optimum design variables for the weighting coefficient of 0.5 are as follows: W=4.653 mm, h=59.215mm, and c=2.667mm. The objective functions corresponding to the optimal design are calculated as ${\Delta}P=6.82$ Pa and $(\theta_j)=0.56K/W$. The Pareto solutions are also presented for various weighting coefficients and they will offer very useful data to design the pin-fins heat sink.

  • In general, the operating temperature of electronic equipment is closely related to product life and reliability, and it is recognized that effectively cooling the parts is an important problem. In this paper, an experimental study on the cooling characteristic according to the pin array of the heat sink is conducted. The experiment on the heat sink was based on the natural convection and temperature distribution changes. The experimental results indicate that the pin array of the heat sink has an effect on the thermoelectric module's cooling characteristic.

  • A numerical simulation has been carried out for the performance characterization of heat sinks in electronic equipment. Heat transfer characteristics have been analyzed for various design parameters including the shape of heat sink, thickness of fin base and fin pitches. A commercial program called Flotherm has been employed for the numerical calculation. Optimal design of the heat sink has been persued which is closely related with the reduction of heat resistance involved in conduction and convection of heat.

자연대류상의 LED 모듈의 경량열관리를 위한 하이브리드 휜 히트싱크의 수치적으로 조사된 열성능 (Numerically-Investigated Thermal Performances of Hybrid Fin Heat Sinks for Lightweight Thermal Management of LED Modules Under Natural Convection)

  • 본 연구는 자연대류상의 LED 모듈의 경량열관리를 위한 하이브리드 휜 히트싱크(HF HS)의 열성능을 수치적으로 조사한 결과에 대해 논하였다. 할로우 하이브리드 휜 히트싱크(HHF HS)와 솔리드 하이브리드 휜 히트싱크(SHF HS)가 HF HS로 제안되고, 신뢰성있는 수치결과를 획득하기 위하여 3차원 CFD 해석이 수행되었다. 3차원 CFD 연구는 HHF HS와 SHF HS의 성능에 대한 휜 공간과 내부유로직경의 영향을 조사하였다. 연구결과는 HHF HS의 질량기반 열저항이 핀휜 히트싱크(PF HS) 보다 20~32% 작음을 보여주고, 유로직경의 증가에 따라 HHF HS의 질량기반 열저항이 감소함을 보인다. 이 결과는 주로 질량감소와 내부유로를 통한 열방출의 결합효과에 기인한다. 고전적인 PF HS 대비 상당히 우월한 HHF HS의 질량기반 열성능은 자연대류상의 LED 모듈의 경량열관리 적용 가능성을 제시한다.

유한 요소법을 이용한 히트싱크의 성능평가를 위한 열해석 연구 (Thermal Analysis of the Heat Sink Performance using FEM)

  • 최근 전자 및 기계부품 기술의 발전으로 전자 장비는 더욱 고성능화, 소형화, 다기능화 되면서 시스템 내부에 발생하는 발열부의 온도를 제어하기 위해 히트싱크가 사용된다. 본 연구에서는 내부 터널 구조의 2가지 형상의 히트싱크의 열 성능평가를 유한요소 프로그램인 ANSYS를 이용하여 수치해석 하였다. 수치해석은 자연대류 상태에서의 열 성능을 수치해석으로 비교 분석하여 냉각핀 형상에 따른 열 성능을 평가하였다. 또한 시간에 따른 열전달 특성과 온도분표의 해석결과를 기초로 하여 히트싱크의 성능평가를 예측하였다. 수치해석의 결과, 형상 A 히트싱크가 형상 B의 히트싱크보다 열 전달율이 자연대류에서 약 70% 향상되었다.
