  • Current fighter pilots, flying new generation aircrafts with high performance, are under severe stress during aerial combat maneuvering when they are exposed to high sustained +Gz(Head-to-foot) acceleration stress. Two major factor limiting performance during high sustaied +Gz acceleration stress are loss of vision-greyout or blackout, and loss of consciousness (LOC). These symptoms are believed to occur as a result of insuff- icient blood flow to the retina and the brain. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of high sustained +Gz stress under different seat back angle. The results. obtained by the biodvanmic computer simulations using the ATB(articulated total body) model, are represented with respect to three variables, such as HIC(head injury criterion) value, average G, and maximum G. The results demonstrate that the seat back angle(over $30^{\circ}C$) had a significant effect to decrease +Gz stress on the head segment and had no significant effect on HIC.

  • An aircraft simulator for ergonomics testing and pilot training was developed from the joint work Agency for Defense Development(ADD) and Daewoo Heavy Industry, LTD, in Korea at first time. It is basically to satisfy the requirements established by FAA-AC-120-40C ( 1995-JAN-26). The aircraft simulator will be used mainly for ergonomics testing and pilot training for basic trainer on ADD and Korea Air Force in near futrue. This simulator reproduces faithfully the cockpit and flight characteristics of the KTX-1 aircraft. It is one of the latest full flight simulators that have the CGI(computer graphic image) visual system and six degree of freedom motions system. Development efforts focused on user-oriented design approach for ergonomics testing and flight training of pilots. Main characteristics of each subsystem are described such as cockpit, instruments, control loading system, motion system, visual system, aural system, instructor operation station and aircraft simulation softwear.

  • Co-channel interference between macro-femtocell networks is an unresolved problem, due to the frequency reuse phenomenon. To mitigate such interference, a secondary femtocell must acquire channel-state knowledge about a co-channel macrocell user and accordingly condition the maximum transmit power of femtocell user. This paper proposes a pilot-based spectrum sensing (PSS) algorithm for overlaid femtocell networks to sense the presence of a macrocell user over a channel of interest. The PSS algorithm senses the pilot tones in the received signal through the power level and the correlation metric comparisons between the received signal and the local reference pilots. On ensuring the existence of a co-channel macrocell user, the maximum transmit power of the corresponding femtocell user is optimized so as to avoid interference. Time and frequency offsets are carefully handled in our proposal. Simulation results show that the PSS algorithm outperforms existing sensing techniques, even at poor received signal quality. It requires less sensing time and provides better detection probability over existing techniques.

  • In this letter, we propose a novel frequency offset estimation algorithm for space-time block code (STBC) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems. The algorithm mainly exploits the specific construction of STBC so that it does not need any additional pilots or sequences in the data field. The estimator is derived on the basis of the maximum likelihood theory. Simulation results show that this method can provide a significant performance improvement in terms of the estimation accuracy of the frequency offset.

  • High-capacity, high quality services should be guaranteed in mobile communication environment. Excellent channel coding and compensation techniques are required so as to improve data reliability on fading channels. In this paper, we propose a method using double pilots, estimates and compensates for the fading of information symbols. The proposed method using Log-MAP Turbo decoder through the iterative decoder, improves BER performance under the environment of the frequency selective fading channel. Compared to the existing methods, the suggested methods show functional improvement of approximately 3dB in case that the number of iteration decoding is 5 and BER is $10^{-4}$.

  • Experiments were performed in order to examine the stability of hydrocarbon-fueled flames in cavity flameholders in supersonic airflows. Methane and ethylene were burned in two different cavity configurations having aft walls ramped at 22.5 and 90$^{\circ}$. Air stagnation temperatures were 590 K at Mach 2 and 640 K at Mach 3. Lean blowout limits showed dependence on the air mass flowrates. Visual observations, planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF) of nitric oxide (NO), and Schlieren imaging were used to investigate these phenomena. Large differences were noted between cavity floor and cavity ramp injection schemes. Cavity ramp injection provided better performance in most cases. Ethylene pilots have a wider range of stable operation than methane. Fuel flowrates at ignition showed similar trends as lean blowout limits, but higher flowrates were required.

  • Safety flight training can be done, through the platform proposed in this paper. This paper designed a flight dynamic model and identified essential functions in order to enable pilots to simulate a training environment similar to the actual. It also design activity diagram, concept as well as class diagram. This paper presents the main features and direction of aircraft to be equipped in the future standard platforms. By design main class of flight dynamic and description. it will help developer to setup the standard platform for aircraft simulation.

  • ASC(Avionics System Computer) was developed to control weapon delivery and navigation sensors, and to perform man-machine interface with pilots for XKO-1 aircraft. The data communications between ASC and UFC(Up Front Controller), DC(Data Concentrator) were implemented by RS422 serial data bus. Also, SCIL(Standard Computer Interface Library) was designed to facilitate control and management of the computer hardware resources and is embedded in the ASC. These structures have a merit of noise immunity and a reduction of wire harness for signal lines, and enable OFP(Operational Flight Program) programmers to use the SCIL easily without knowing hardware details. Manufactured system was on installed on XKO-1, and peformed for BIT(Built In Test) and interface test with UFC and DC. The test results show that it meets the system requirements.

  • Noise is a major cause of hearing loss in the air base. There are lots of risk factors of hearing loss including noise, and hearing loss can be accelerated by combined effects of these risk factors. Here in, we reviewed risk factors of hearing loss, and analysed key risk factors inducing hearing loss in the air base. Risk factors exacerbating hearing loss with noise were mainly investigated in this research because noise could not be an avoidable risk factor in the air base. Analysed data will contribute to make green environment minimizing hearing loss of pilots and supporting personnels in the air base.

  • The worldwide improvement of the safety, efficiency and rationality in the field of aircraft operation environment and certificate management of aviation personnel has been proceeded cheerfully as a part of each country's globalization movement. Considering the importance of aviation transportation industry supporting nation's international trading has the competition among the airlines regarded possibly as that among the countries. In order to make Korean Government and Airlines more competitive in this race, the standardization and generalization of aviation regulations are required. On this study, some amendments are recommended to improve regulations and systems for pilot's certification management and operation environment by comparison analysis of regulations of ICAO, FAA and Korean aviation law.
