  • The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of swirl, injection pressure and pilot injection on D.I. diesel combustion by using a transparent engine system. The test engine is equipped with common rail injection system to obtain high pressure and to control injection timing and duration. In this study, the combustion analysis and steady flow test were conducted to estimate the heat release rate from in-cylinder pressure. Soot distribution in diffusion flame according to swirl ratio, injection pressure and pilot injection was investigated by using LII technique. As the results, high injection pressure was found to shorten ignition delay as well as enhance peak pressure and heat release rate was greatly affected by injection timing and pilot injection. In addition, the results showed that the period of soot formation corresponded to the diffusion flame.

Linking Clinical Events in Elderly to In-home Monitoring Sensor Data: A Brief Review and a Pilot Study on Predicting Pulse Pressure

  • Technology has had a tremendous impact on our daily lives. Recently, technology and its impact on aging has become an expanding field of inquiry. A major reason for this interest is that the use of technology can help older people who experience deteriorating health to live independently. In this paper we give a brief review of the in-home monitoring technologies for the elderly. In the pilot study, we analyze the possibility of employing the data generated by a continuous, unobtrusive nursing home monitoring system for predicting elevated(abnormal)pulse pressure(PP) in elderly(PP=systolic blood pressure-diastolic blood pressure). Our sensor data capture external information(behavioral) about the resident that is subsequently reflected in the predicted PP. By continuously predicting the possibility of elevated pulse pressure we may alert the nursing staff when some predefined threshold is exceeded. This approach may provide additional blood pressure monitoring for the elderly persons susceptible to blood pressure variations during the time between two nursing visits. We conducted a retrospective pilot study on two residents of the TigerPlace aging in place facility with age over 70, that had blood pressure measured between 100 and 300 times during a period of two years. The pilot study suggested that abnormal pulse pressure can be reasonably well estimated (an area under ROC curve of about 0.75) using apartment bed and motion sensors.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the characteristics of combustion pressure and exhaust emissions when the pilot injection timing and EGR rate were changed in a CRDI 4-cylinder diesel engine. The pilot injection timing and EGR rate have a significant impact on the combustion and emission characteristics of diesel engine. In this study, the pilot injection timing and EGR rate variation were conducted to 2000rpm of engine speed with torque 50Nm. Combustion pressure and heat release rate were decreased under high EGR rate conditions but increased under the pilot injection timing $20^{\circ}$(BTDC). IMEP and the maximum pressure in cylinder(Pmax) were decreased under the same injection timing with the increase of EGR rate. The NOx emission was decreased with increasing the EGR rate. On the other hand, in the same injection timing conditions, CO, HC, $CO_2$ emissions were increased with increasing the EGR rate.

  • In this Paper, a mathematical model describing the dynamics of pilot operated pressure control valve was derived. A attempt to analyze the Parameters(seat diameter, cone angle, spring stiffness, control volume) which relate to the performance of the object valve was carried out. Simulation using AMESim as a simulation tool was operated, and verified the validity of our simulation by means of comparison our simulation results with an experimental results of the pilot operated pressure control valve.

다이어프램형 방식의 파일럿 액추에이터 개발 (Development of a diaphragm type actuator)

  • 액체로켓 엔진용 개폐밸브는 파일럿 공압으로 포핏을 열고 스프링 힘에 의해 닫음으로써 로켓엔진의 추진제 유량을 제어한다. 현재 개발 중인 엔진용 개폐밸브는 다이어프램 액추에이터에서 압력을 제거하면 닫히도록 설계되어 있다. 다이어프램을 설계하고 개발하기 위해 밸브가 열리고 닫히는 특성에 따라 수명을 분석할 필요가 있다. 밸브가 닫히기 시작하는 시점의 작동 유체의 압력을 결정하고, 포핏이 열리는 시점의 압력을 결정되어 힘평형이 설계되어 있다. 수명시험은 상온 유동에서 다이어프램부의 크랙에 의한 누설은 용접 부위에서 발생했다. 다이어프램 액추에이터의 작동 수명은 헬륨 파일럿 압력의 22 MPa 시험에서 61회이다.

  • 본 연구는 4실린더 커먼레일 디젤 기관에서 바이오 디젤 혼합 연료를 사용하여 예비 분사시기와 EGR율을 변화시켰을 때 연소 압력과 배기 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 실험을 수행하였다. 예비 분사 시기와 EGR율은 디젤 기관의 연소 및 배기 배출 특성에 큰 영향을 미친다. 본 연구에서는 일반적으로 많이 사용되고 있는 기관 회전 속도 2,000rpm에서 바이오 디젤 혼합율 20%의 연료를 사용하여 예비 분사 시기와 EGR율에 다양하게 변화를 주어 실험을 하였다. 실험결과, 도시 평균 유효 압력은 예비 분사 시기가 상사점전 BTDC $10^{\circ}$에서 가장 높았으며, 연소 압력과 열 발생율은 동일 예비 분사 시기에서 EGR율에 비례하여 감소하였다. NOx배 출량은 예비 분사시기에 관계없이 EGR율이 증가할수록 큰 폭으로 감소하였으며, 매연(Soot)은 예비 분사 시기 BTDC $20^{\circ}$에서 가장 적게 배출되었다.

  • 밸브 입구 압력 변화에 따른 액체로켓엔진용 연소기 산화제 개폐밸브의 개방 특성에 대해 시험을 통한 연구를 수행하였다. 연소기 산화제 개폐밸브의 포핏 방식 밸브 특성에 의해 밸브 입구 압력이 상승함에 따라 밸브 개방에 필요한 구동압력은 선형적으로 증가하며, 밸브 행정 시간은 감소하게 된다. 하지만 밸브 입구 압력 상승으로 밸브 개방 구동압력 도달까지의 시간이 길어져 전체적인 밸브 개방 시간이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 결국 밸브 입구 압력이 증가할수록 밸브 행정 시간의 감소량은 미미해지며 밸브 개방에 필요한 구동압력에 도달하는데 필요한 시간이 밸브 개방 시간을 좌우한다는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 밸브 구동부에 대한 설계를 통해 밸브 개방 시점의 밸브 입구 압력과 연소기로의 순간적인 산화제 공급량을 조정할 수 있다.

파일럿 집광로봇 박스형 압력보상용기 구조설계식 (Structural Design Equation for a Box-shape Pressure Compensated Chamber of Pilot Mining Robot)

  • A pressure compensated chamber of a pilot mining robot isolates and protects an electrical-electronic system from the ambient highly pressured water. Since the inner pressure of the chamber is compensated with outer water pressure using hydraulic oil and pressure compensator, there exists a pressure difference, less than 1 bar, between outer and inner surface. The structural safety of the chamber is obtained relatively easier than the canister type which inner pressure is kept as the atmospheric pressure. However, due to the adoption of box shape for space efficiency and usage of the transparent engineering plastic viewport for checking inner circumstance, the viewport can be largely deformed. This large deformation can cause an additional tensile force, called the prying force, to the bolt-flange connection parts of the viewport. In this paper, we suggest the structural design equation considering the prying action for designing the structure of a box-shape pressure compensated chamber.

  • The capability of pilot injection with small fuel quantity at all engine operating conditions is one of the main feature of the common rail system. The purpose of the pilot injection is to lower the engine noise and to reduce the NOx emissions. This study describes the pilot spray structure characteristics of the common-rail diesel injectors, solenoid-driven and piezo-driven type, with different electric driving characteristics So, three common-rail injectors with different electric current wave were used in this study. The pilot spray characteristics such as spray speed, spray tip penetration, and spray angle were obtained by spray images, which is measured by the back diffusion light illumination method with optical system for high-speed temporal photography. Also the CFD analysis was carried out for fuel behavior under high pressure in between needle and nozzle of solenoid-driven injector to know the condition of initial injection at experiment test. It was found that pilot injection of common-rail system was effected by rate of injection and temperature of injected fuel and electrical characteristic of the driven injector.
