  • In this study, a small portable sorting pilot for separation that can be used in dismantling construction site, which is the stage of construction waste generation, was developed, and its separation efficiency was evaluated to increase the actual recycling rate of the construction waste. The pilot was developed as portable sorting pilot for separation of 6 ton capacity that can handle one arm roll box within a $15m^2$ area in consideration of narrow places in the downtown area where a number of dismantling sites are located and various processes performed in the dismantling sites. In order to evaluate the efficiency performance of the developed device, the separation and sorting were carried out ten times with respect to trommel rotational speed RPM 2-3, 4-6 and 7-8. According to the results, the highest efficiency of about 90% was shown at RPM 6-7.

  • OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) is widely used as multiple access techniques for next generation mobile communication systems. However, OFDMA has a disadvantage of high peak-to-average power ratio and SC-FDMA (Single-Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access) was proposed for uplink systems to overcome the drawback. SC-FDMA also has several demerits including degraded performance with high-order modulations or with multiple antenna techniques, and less flexibility in resource allocation and pilot patterns. In order to achieve the best performance over a wide range of environments, each mobile station should select either of OFDMA and SC-FDMA according to the given condition and a pilot structure for SC-FDMA systems should be similar to that of OFDMA to maintain the same frame structure. While conventional SC-FDMA schemes require an entire SC-FDMA symbol or a separate short symbol for pilots, this paper proposes a method which supports the pilots included in SC-FDMA data parts and enables a SC-FDMA frame to hold the same structure as an OFDMA frame.

  • Pervaporation pilot tests for obtaining the anhydrous ethanol, which is an automobile fuel additive for reducing air pollution, were carried out in the production field of fermented ethanol by using a PVA composite membrane. In the pervaporation dehydration of the ethanol/water azeotropic mixture, the membrane performance is concluded to be enhanced with the heating temperature of feed. In the determination of the permeate condensation temperature from the viewpoint of energy cost, an Optimal temperature was found to be near $0{\circ}C$. The results on the dehydration of fermented ethanol were similar to those of synthetic ethanol, which indicates that the pervaporation performance is not influenced by impurities contained in the ethanol to be dehydrated. From a comparison of calculated energy needed in the system and measured value in the pilot test, it is confirmed that the latent heat for vaporization of permeant on the permeate side of membrane is supplied from the feed.

  • In this paper, we have carried out the DS/CDMA with a suppressed pilot channel, which is used in receiving coherently with Rake diversity and in synchronizing the chip timing, in the mobile satellite communication. Also, we have investigated the envelope variation of a shadowed Rician fading simulator, and analyzed the error performences of DS/CDMA in the mobile satellite communication. The results showed that the error performance in the Heavy shadowing environment might be degraded more than in the Rayleigh fading environment since the fading envelopes in the former environment are varied randomly compared with those in the latter environment. And the performence of DS/CDMA system could be improved about 10 dB compared with that of narrowband QPSK system. In conclusion, DS/CDMA with a suppressed pilot channel had the best performance in the case of the suppressed pilot channel to transmission power ratio $\beta$=-8 dB, the number of complex delay profiles $N_{profile}$=32, and using these values, the error performance of DS/CDMA in Light shadowing environment was identical to the ideal QPSK error performance.

  • This paper provides performance evaluations of various channel estimation schemes for Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) 3.0 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system under a fixed reception environment. ATSC 3.0 MIMO system can obtain high spectral efficiency and improved reception performance compared to conventional terrestrial broadcasting systems. The ATSC 3.0 MIMO defines Walsh-Hadamard and null pilot encoding algorithms and the amplitude and phase of MIMO pilots are different from those of single-input single-output pilots. At the receiver, linear and discrete Fourier transform (DFT)-based interpolations can be used for the channel estimation. This paper provides the various combinations of the interpolation schemes for channel estimation in time and frequency dimensions, and then analyzes the performance of the various combinations through the computer simulation. The results of computer simulation show that the combination of the linear interpolation in the time dimension and then DFT-based interpolation in the frequency dimension can obtain the best performance among the considered combinations.

  • Air balancer is a conveyance cargo-handling machine, used in assembly and process lines of car and machining industries. This can lift up an object, the weight of which is from 5 to 200 kg, and moves it to a position. As industrial technologies evolve, it is required to move an object and fit it into a specified position with greater accuracy, rather than performing simple tasks such as lifting objects up and down as conventional ones do. There is also a demand to handle an object with one hand, rather than with two hands,. Through designs of manifold unit for an air balancer function, pilot regulator unit to keep pressure constant, hand unit for an accurate load perception function, and air balancer circuit, this study enables everybody to work it with ease and convenience. Experiments and comparisons were conducted for the performance evaluation of the circuit.

  • In this paper, a novel anti-sway control system that uses an inclinometer as a sway sensor is investigated. The inclinometer, when compared with a vision system, is very cheap, durable, and its maintenance is easy. However, it gives almost the same performance. Various observers for estimating the angular velocity of the load and the trolley velocity are presented. A state feedback controller with an integrator is designed. After a time-scale analysis, a 1/4-size pilot crane of the rail-mounted quayside crane is constructed. The performance of the proposed control system was verified with a real rubber-tired gantry crane at a container terminal as well as with the pilot crane constructed. Experimental results are provided.

  • In this study, a ship motion control system design method is introduced for autonomous ships. Some related research results and technologies for autonomous ships have already been developed and applied to ships. For example, the Norwegian Maritime Authority and the Coastal Administration have signed an agreement that allows to test of autonomous ships in the defined area (port to port). Many countries and industries are pursuing to realize the autonomous vessel in the real world. In this paper, the authors try to develop related technology. As basic research, a ship model of the pilot vessel is developed and physical parameters are identified by experiment and simulations. Using the mathematical ship model, a control system is designed and control performance is evaluated by simulations.

  • A theoretical model was developed to evaluate the influence of control variables on the composting performance in a bin composting system. The model was verified using pilot scale composting system. Simulation of the composting temperature according to air flow rate and composting bin size was conducted using the mathematical model. High composting temperature above 55$^{\circ}C$ needed to kill a pathogen was maintained for longer periods as the air flow rate was lower and the bin size was larger. Optimum air flow rate was 0.77L/min/kg.DM for the experimental pilot scale bin system. The size of composting bin should be large enough to maintain the higher composting temperature for required periods.

  • Pilots are exposed to carcinogenic substances like radiation, ozone, exhaust gas from jet engine, and electromagnetic wave, their environment can be very hazardous. I designed this study to know if there is any difference between pilots and general people in cancer incidence. I analyzed cancer cases between 1999 and 2008, and investigated their age, site, aircraft types, and sex. I compared pilot's cancer incidence with general people during same periods. Statistical analysis was performed with standardized incidence ratio (SIR). 10 cases were high performance pilots, 5 cases were low performance pilots. The average age when the diagnosis had been made was $39{\pm}7.8$. Pilot's incidence ratio was lower than people's, the most common cancer was kidney, and there was no lung cancer. Cancer is influenced by gene and environment, each country has different patterns. The low incidence ratio in Korean pilots might be due to "healthy worker effect". I think we should perform further investigation on kidney cancer.
