Interference Avoidance through Pilot-Based Spectrum Sensing Algorithm in Overlaid Femtocell Networks

  • Co-channel interference between macro-femtocell networks is an unresolved problem, due to the frequency reuse phenomenon. To mitigate such interference, a secondary femtocell must acquire channel-state knowledge about a co-channel macrocell user and accordingly condition the maximum transmit power of femtocell user. This paper proposes a pilot-based spectrum sensing (PSS) algorithm for overlaid femtocell networks to sense the presence of a macrocell user over a channel of interest. The PSS algorithm senses the pilot tones in the received signal through the power level and the correlation metric comparisons between the received signal and the local reference pilots. On ensuring the existence of a co-channel macrocell user, the maximum transmit power of the corresponding femtocell user is optimized so as to avoid interference. Time and frequency offsets are carefully handled in our proposal. Simulation results show that the PSS algorithm outperforms existing sensing techniques, even at poor received signal quality. It requires less sensing time and provides better detection probability over existing techniques.

  • 본 논문은 최근 주목받고 있는 압축 센싱(compressed sensing) 기반으로 직교 주파수 분할 다중화 (OFDM; orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) 신호의 파일럿 톤을 효율적으로 설계하여 최대 전력대 평균 전력 비율 (PAPR; peak to average power ratio)을 감소시키는 방법을 제안한다.

  • 주파수 부족 및 비효율적 활용을 완화시키기 위해 제안된 무선인지시스템은 기존의 1차 사용자에게 대한 간섭을 주지 않도록 하면서 유휴주파수를 사용하게 하는 기술로서 최근 주목받고 있는 차세대 이동통신 시스템이다. 최근 FCC는 실질적으로 TV대역에 무선인지 시스템을 적용하도록 하면서 관련된 규정을 개정하였고 TV대역의 유휴주파수에 대하여 고정기기 및 개인 휴대기기에 대한사용을 허가하도록 방침을 정하였으며 2009년 DTV로 전환 완료 이후 해당 기기들의 사용은 본격화 될 것이다 무선인지 시스템의 기본 방침안 면허 사용자에 대한 보호를 위하여 TV대역사용에서의 우선순위가 가장 높은 신호인 TV 및 무선마이크에 대한 보호가 이루어져야하는데 이를 위해 정확한 1차 사용자에 대한 검출,즉 TV대역의 1차 사용자인 DTV에 대한 정확한 스펙트럼 센싱이 이루어져야 한다. 본 논문에서는 스펙트럼 센싱 성능이 우수한 파일릿 센성을 이용하여 DTV신호를 검출하도록 하였고 DTV신호검출의 신뢰성 향상을 위하여 협력 센싱기반의 파일릿 센싱을 수행하여 DTV신호의 검출 확률의 정확성 및 신뢰성을 높이도록 하였다. 또한 각 단일 센싱 결과를 취합하여 판단하는 과정에서 효율적인 판단을 위해 다수의결법을 제안한다.

실제 DTV 대역에서 인지 무선 시스템 적용을 위한 임계값 결정 방법 (Threshold Determination Methods for Cognitive Radio in Real DTV Bandwidth)

  • 본 논문에서 페이딩 환경에서 ATSC DTV 신호를 검출하기 위하여 센싱성능을 연구하였다. 연구에 앞서, ATSC DTV 신호를 연구하였으며, 이에 가우시안, Rayleigh, Rician 채널을 각각 적용하여 다중 환경에서 다양한 파라미터를 변화시켜 연구하였다. 신호 검출을 위해 적용된 센싱 이론은 FFT 기반 파일럿 센싱을 적용하여 신호를 검출하였다. 센싱이론을 통해 검출된 결과는 주파수 유무에 따라 비트화로 정의하여 판단하였으며, 신뢰적인 실험을 위해 ATSC DTV 신호를 생성하여 실험하였다. 실험에 있어 적용되는 임계값은 CFAR 이론을 참고하여 False alarm rate에 따라 유도하였으며, 임계값에 따른 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 우리는 이번 신호검출 실험을 실제 ATSC DTV 환경에서 적용할 수 있도록 연구를 하였다.

MPA 유량계 압력감지공의 위치와 유출계수 (Location of pressure sensing holes in MPA flowmeter and discharge coefficients)

  • MPA (Multi-Point Averaging) flow element is a new type of differential pressure (DP) flow-sensing device that was developed by Seojin Instech to improve the operating characteristics of the conventional Averaging Pilot Tube (APT) flow elements. Operating characteristics of a flowmeter in general can be defined in terms of measurement accuracy and range. Improvement of accuracy and expanding the range of flow measurement were the two main objectives of the development. To achieve these dual objectives several upstream and downstream pressure-sensing holes were placed in MPA flow element. During the course of the development it was found that certain arrangements of the pressure-sensing holes improved measurement accuracy but did not expand operating flow range of Averaging Pilot Tubes. Development tests were performed with water between Reynolds number of 50,000 and 1,000,000 in the four-inch test line at the Alden Research Laboratory, U.S.A. Purpose of this paper is to present the relationship between the various locations of the pressure-sensing holes and the performance characteristics of MPA flow element. Furthermore, the operating characteristics of the best performing MPA are compared with those of typical orifice and APT.

ATSC DTV 신호 검출 성능 (Performance of Spectrum Sensing for ATSC DTV Signals)

  • 본 논문은 ATSC DTV (advanced television system committee digital television) 신호를 검출하기 위해 고속 퓨리에 변환 (FFT : fast Fourier transform) 기반의 파일럿 신호를 검출하는 알고리즘의 성능을 파라미터를 변화시켜가면서 분석하였다. DTV 신호를 검출하기 위한 요구사항을 분석하였으며, 센싱 회수 및 시간에 따라서 성능을 비교하였다. 실험 결과 센싱 횟수가 증가할수록 신호 검출 성능이 향상되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 논문의 결과는 DTV 주파수 대역의 인지 라디오 (CR : cognitive radio) 시스템을 구현하는데 참고자료로 활용될 수 있다.

Massive MIMO Channel Estimation Algorithm Based on Weighted Compressed Sensing

  • Compressed sensing-based matching pursuit algorithms can estimate the sparse channel of massive multiple input multiple-output systems with short pilot sequences. Although they have the advantages of low computational complexity and low pilot overhead, their accuracy remains insufficient. Simply multiplying the weight value and the estimated channel obtained in different iterations can only improve the accuracy of channel estimation under conditions of low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), whereas it degrades accuracy under conditions of high SNR. To address this issue, an improved weighted matching pursuit algorithm is proposed, which obtains a suitable weight value uop by training the channel data. The step of the weight value increasing with successive iterations is calculated according to the sparsity of the channel and uop. Adjusting the weight value adaptively over the iterations can further improve the accuracy of estimation. The results of simulations conducted to evaluate the proposed algorithm show that it exhibits improved performance in terms of accuracy compared to previous methods under conditions of both high and low SNR.

  • One of the latest wonders brought to us by ICT(Information and Communication Technology) is telematics turning automobiles, not long ago a mere means of transportation, into a whole-new digital living space. Telematics is indeed fast becoming a household word, and countries around the globe are giving spur to research and development of core technologies to acquire competitiveness in related IT sectors. This paper discusses the telematics pilot project launched in Jeju to promote the development of telematics technology and stimulate related industries. The objective of the pilot project is to give impetus to research in related technologies and a head-start to Korea in the global race in this technology field. The pilot deployment, covering 6 services, promising to be most demanded in Korea's telematics environment, is sure to make a sizeable contribution toward familiarizing the public with the new technology.

ATSC Digital Television Signal Detection with Spectral Correlation Density

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of spectrum sensing for advanced television systems committee (ATSC) digital television (DTV) signal detection. To exploit the cyclostationarity of the ATSC DTV signals, we employ spectral correlation density (SCD) as the decision statistic and propose an optimal detection algorithm. The major difficulty is in obtaining the probability distribution functions of the SCD. To overcome the difficulty, we probabilistically model the pilot frequency location and employ Gaussian approximation for the SCD distribution. Then, we obtain a practically implementable detection algorithm that outperforms the industry leading systems by 2-3 dB. We also propose various techniques that greatly reduce the system complexity with performance degradation by only a few tenths of decibels. Finally, we show how robust the system is to the estimation errors of the noise power spectral density level and the probability distribution of the pilot frequency location.
