A closed loop wireless transmission method adaptive to mobile speed and its performance analysis (이동 속도 감응형 폐순환 무선전송기법 및 성능 분석)

  • A closed loop wireless transmission method adaptive to mobile unit speed is proposed in this paper. A mobile communication node measures the mobile speed based on the transmitted pilot signals through Doppler frequency estimation, and it changes the transmission period of pilot signals as per estimated mobile speed adaptively. The pilot signals with the different transmission periods are transmitted using the different PN sequences with the previous ones without any explicit information about the new period. The corresponding receiver node can detect and extract the transmitted pilot signals through blind search of the transmitted PN sequences of the pilot signals, and it can demodulate and decode the transmitted information using the channel estimation results based on the detected pilot signals. The performance of the proposed method had been analyzed through the simulation under the fading channel environments and compared with the previous methods. The simulation results showed performance improvement of the proposed method over the existing ones.

  • Compressed sensing-based matching pursuit algorithms can estimate the sparse channel of massive multiple input multiple-output systems with short pilot sequences. Although they have the advantages of low computational complexity and low pilot overhead, their accuracy remains insufficient. Simply multiplying the weight value and the estimated channel obtained in different iterations can only improve the accuracy of channel estimation under conditions of low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), whereas it degrades accuracy under conditions of high SNR. To address this issue, an improved weighted matching pursuit algorithm is proposed, which obtains a suitable weight value uop by training the channel data. The step of the weight value increasing with successive iterations is calculated according to the sparsity of the channel and uop. Adjusting the weight value adaptively over the iterations can further improve the accuracy of estimation. The results of simulations conducted to evaluate the proposed algorithm show that it exhibits improved performance in terms of accuracy compared to previous methods under conditions of both high and low SNR.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive pilot beacon equipment for mobile communication systems based on direct spread spectrum technology which generates the pilot channel for handoff between base stations by using the information acquired from the downstream wireless signal regarding the overhead channel information. Such an adaptive pilot beacon equipment will enable low power operation since among the wireless signals, only the pilot channel will be generated and transmitted. The pilot channel in the downstream link of the CDMA receiver is used to acquire time and frequency synchronization and this is used to calibrate the offset for the beacon, which implies that time synchronization using GPS is not required and any location where forward receive signal can be received can be used as the installation site. The downstream link pilot signal searching within the CDMA receiver is performed by FPGA and DSP. The FPGA is used to perform the initial synchronization for the pilot searcher and DSP is used to perform the offset correction between beacon clock and base station clock. The CDMA transmitter the adaptive pilot beacon equipment will use the timing offset information in the pilot channel acquired from the CDMA receiver and generate the downstream link pilot signal synchronized to the base station. The intermediate frequency signal is passed through the FIR filter and subsequently upconverted and amplified before being radiated through the antenna.

A downlink beam synthesized method considering phase matching between common overhead channel and traffic channel in FDD/CDMA systems (FDD/CDMA 시스템에서 공통채널과 통화채널의 위상정합을 고려한 순방향 빔 합성 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a downlink beamforming method which is considered common pilot channel for coherent detection and dedicated traffic channel for desired user in FDD/CDMA systems. The existing downlink beamforming system produces phase mismatch between traffic and pilot signals at desired mobile as well as interference to other mobiles. A new downlink beamforming method can solve above problem based on least squares method between reference function and beamforming function. A numerical analysis shows that the proposed downlink beamforming method matches well and gives low BER performance.

A Channel Estimation and Detection Method for Multi-Cell Signals Using the PN Sequence Pilot in Time-Varying Channel Environments (시변 채널 환경에서 PN 수열 파일럿을 활용한 다중 셀 신호의 채널 추정 및 검출 방법)

  • In cellular mobile radio systems with frequency reuse, the interference signals degrade the channel estimation and signal detection performance due to the low signal-to-interference ratio near coverage boundaries. When the preamble pilot sequences from different cells are orthogonal or located in disjointed positions, they can be used for multi-cell channel estimation and interference cancellation. In time-varying channels caused by Doppler spread, data pilot symbols are needed for channel estimations. However, data pilot symbols are usually located in identical positions for the overhead reduction, which degrades the channel estimation performance. In this paper, we demonstrate a significant amount of performance improvement is achieved by multiplying different pseudonoise(PN) sequences to the data pilot symbols from adjacent interference cells. In particular, for detection scheme using maximal ratio combining(MRC) and inter-cell spatial demultiplexing(ISD), quantitative performance gain of spectral efficiency for different values of Doppler frequency and interference power is presented.

  • In this paper, we analyze functional requirements of the IEEE 802.22 WRAN, and propose a downlink 프레임 structure satisfying the requirements. The proposed downlink 프레임 structure maximizes e transmission efficiency by adopting the cognative radio to assign the sub-channel by reflecting the channel environment of WRAN. We also calculate the signalling overhead for both downlink and uplink, and analyze the performances of time synchronization, frequency synchronization and cell identification based on the 프리앰블 in downlink and suggest the channel estimation method tough 프리앰블 or pilot. As a final result, e stationary beamforming (SBF) algorithm with dynamic channel allocation(DCA) is proposed. The proposed OFDMA downlink 프레임 structure with channel adaptive sub-channel allocation for cognitive radio applications is verified to meet the requirements of IEEE 802.22 WRAN, by computer simulations.

Multiple-Symbol Differential Detection Scheme of Differentially Encoded MultiPhase Clipped MultiCode CDMA System (차동 부호화된 MultiPhase Clipped MultiCode CDMA 시스템의 수신 성능 개선을 위한 다중 심볼 차동 검출 방식 연구)

  • MultiCode-CDMA (MC-CDMA) system of chip level MPSK incorporating with clipper (MP-CDMA)[l] shows constant envelope signal which can mitigate the performance degradation due to nonlinear transmit amplifier. In this paper, modulation is modified to carry out differential encoded MPSK rather than MPSK. The modified system is called DMP-CDMA. DMP-CDMA using differential detection has advantages on receiver complexity and pilot overhead. However, it is inferior to coherent detection by about 4.0dB due to inherent power inefficiency of noncoherent detection and the error propagation. Multiple symbol differential detection is employed in order to improve DMP-CDMA using differential detection. As the result, the performance of DMP-CDMA system is improved about 3.6dB compared to differential detection.

Feedback Simplification Scheme for Wireless Power Transfer Systems Based on Beamforming with Phased Array Antenna (위상배열 안테나를 이용한 빔포밍 기반 무선전력전송 시스템의 피드백 간소화 기법)

  • The effectiveness of the phased array antenna in wireless power transfer systems is due to its ability to form a beam pattern towards the desired direction. To maximize the efficiency of wireless power transfer through beamforming, the transmitter must recognize the information on the optimal transmission path. To achieve this, the transmitter usually transmits pilot signals periodically and the receiver extracts the optimal beamforming weights using the pilot signals. The receiver then feeds the beamforming weights back to the transmitter. In general, the amount of feedback increases with the number of antennas, which causes feedback overhead when there is a large number of antennas. In this paper, we propose a feedback simplification scheme based on the far-field approximation method. The simulation results are provided to validate the impact of the simplified feedback on the beam pattern.

Adaptive Complex Interpolator for Channel Estimation in Pilot-Aided OFDM System

  • In an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing system, conventional interpolation techniques cannot correctly balance performance and overhead when estimating dynamic long-delay channels in single frequency networks (SFNs). In this study, classical filter analysis and design methods are employed to derive a complex interpolator for maximizing the resistible echo delay in a channel estimator on the basis of the correlation between frequency domain interpolating and time domain windowing. The coefficient computation of the complex interpolator requires a key parameter, i.e., channel length, which is obtained in the frequency domain with a tentative estimation scheme having low implementation complexity. The proposed complex adaptive interpolator is verified in a simulated digital video broadcasting for terrestrial/handheld receiver. The simulation results indicate that the designed channel estimator can not only handle SFN echoes with more than $200{\mu}s$ delay but also achieve a bit-error rate performance close to the optimum minimum mean square error method, which significantly outperforms conventional channel estimation methods, while preserving a low implementation cost in a short-delay channel.

Construction Workers Fall Accidents from Scaffolding in Gaza Strip

  • The aim of this paper is to identify and rank the main causes of fall accidents from scaffolding according to their relative importance as perceived by project managers and site engineers in construction projects in the Gaza Strip. A total of 50 questionnaires were distributed to project managers and site engineers, 35 questionnaires were received yielding 70% response rate. A total of 33 factors that cause fall accidents in scaffolding were identified through a literature review and consolidated by a pilot study. These factors were categorized into six groups: factors related to erection, factors related to the staff (Scaffolders), factors related to loads, factors related to the personal safety, factors related to the workers behavior, factors related to the personal competencies. The results indicated that factors related to the workers behavior are the major factors that caused fall accidents from scaffolds. The results revealed that the top ranked factors which caused falls accidents from scaffolding were: absence of personal protective equipment (PPE), missing ladders, wind loads, disguised the design code, lack of proper assembly or inspection, overhead tools and materials, climbing and neglect using ladders, lack of guardrails, missing bracing and working during fatigue. These findings would help contractors to understand the top factors that caused fall accidents so that they can take them into consideration in safety planning in order to minimize the possibility of their occurrences.
