  • Extension plate attached PHC piles and bolts spliced PHC piles were installed in field test site. Pile integrities were checked during installation with dynamic pile test and the actual pile conditions after installation were compared with integrity index (${\beta}$ index) by PDA test. Theoretically the break in near pile end or pile end (especially extension plate itself) was very difficult to access by integrity index (${\beta}$ index) and also require a high level of knowledge and field experience on PDA test. First actual wave equation of bolts spliced PHC piles due to bolts spliced equipment can be different with welding spliced. Second wave length of the stress wave from installing can be longer than the height of bolts spliced equipment (about 100 mm). Third Beta processing in PDA analysis function is very difficult to access without a high level of knowledge and field experience on wave equation. Above-mentioned three reasons can make conclusion that traditional PDA test in domestic site can not access the integrity of bolts spliced equipment in bolts spliced PHC piles.

  • Impact-echo test, a kind of simple and economical method to evaluate the integrity of drilled piles has some limitations to use because the stress wave can be generated only on the head of a pile and the wave propagation in the pile with surrounding soils are very complicated. Numerical analyses and model tests in the laboratory have shown that both the ratio of length to diameter of a pile and the stiffness ratio of pile to soil have influence on the resolution of testing results. Full scale testing piles which have artificial defects were used to verify the capability of impact-echo technique as a tool for the pile integrity evaluation. Behaviour of the reflected signal of stress wave was investigated according to the type of defects. Elastic modulus of the pile was calculated using the wave velocity in the pile and the unconfined strength of concrete specimen. Influences of the stiffness difference between the pile and the ground on the characteristics of a wave signal were also examined.

  • The evaluation of soundness of pile is very important for the safety of super structure. In this paper, the HWAW(Harmonic Wavelet Analysis of Wave) method which is developed to determine phase and group velocities of waves is applied to evaluate integrity of pile non-destructivly. The proposed method can evaluate a soundness of pile and pile end condition which is very important factor for pile behaviour. To verity the applicability of HWAW method in non-destructive test for pile, the numerical simulation test using ABAQUS was performed. And the model pile was made and the proposed non-destructive pile tests were applied to evaluate soundness and end boundary condition of model pile in the air and soil box. Through a numerical simulation and model tests, it is shown that the HWAW method has good potential of applying to the evaluation of pile integrity.

  • To test the effect of various pile tip shape series of model scale loading tests were carried out on test piles with special pile tips. Special pile tips were made using the 3D printer and were attached to the bottom end of the test pile for loading tests. The pile tips were made to have 30°, 45°, 60° inclined tips, as well as a rounded tip. The main objective of the test was to observe the effect of various pile tip shapes on settlement and penetrability of the pile. Moreover, a numerical model simulating the pile loading test carried out in this study was established and verified based on the loading test results. From this, the stress concentration around the pile tip was investigated. This will allow us to analyze the decrease of stress concentration around the pile tip which is the main cause of the pile tip damage during pile installation. However, modifying the pile tip shape will eventually increase the settlement of the pile. By estimating the degree of increase in pile settlement, the viability and the efficiency of the pile shape modification was judged. In addition, case studies on the effect of different pile tip shape and ground conditions on pile settlement and stress dispersion was conducted.

  • Recently, geophysical prospecting methods have played very important roles in civil and environmental engineering problems. Technical advances in geophysical instruments and computer system made it possible to get underground images with very high resolution far purposes to resolve those problems. It was possible partly due to ever increasing demand for development of technologies needed to precisely detect polluted areas and prevent ground-related accidents. Based on the same demand, integrity tests of cast-in place piles draw more attention and development of accurate test procedures is required. Ultrasonic methods is one of most advanced non-destructive procedures. In the paper, a geotomography method is employed for the cast-in place pile integrity test using ultrasonic waves. The image of pile interior is scanned and scrutinized far better and more accurate decision in the cast-in place pile integrity. In this study, we firstly examined the accuracy fur tomography program with idealized synthetic models built in water tank: their position and size were changed in the tank and each case was studied. In the next stage, real concrete pile models were fabricated and images of anomaly areas inside the pile were scanned to successfully locate those areas.

  • The reflected signals from the defects of a pile and the boundaries between the pile and soils are analyzed to evaluate the integrity of drilled shafts in the impact-echo test. Signals varied according to both of the stiffness ratio of the pile to defects and that of the pile to surrounding soils. Model tests using the small size pile in the laboratory and numerical analyses have limitations in finding the characteristics of the signals due to different stress wave characteristics and unreliable modelling for the interaction between the pile and soils respectively. Full scale testing piles which have artificial defects are installed by the actual construction method and they were used to investigate the characteristics of reflected signals according to defects and the stiffness ratios of the pile to soils around.

  • The in-pile Section (IPS) is subjected to flow-induced vibration(FIV) due to the flow of the primary coolant and then the structural integrity. The in-pile Section (IPS) of 3-pin Fuel Test Loop(FTL) shall be installed in the vortical hole call IR1 of HANARO reactor core. In order to verify the velocity and displacement both the inside region of IPS at the annular region of IPS, the vibration was measured by varing the flow rate on both regions. The displacements of fuel assembly in the in-pile Section (IPS) were found to be lower than the values of allowable design criteria.

  • To investigate an in-pile behavior of the newly developed DUO fuel pellet, the irradiation test will be carried out in the domestic test reactor. Irradiation test capsule for the HANARO reactor, which is a specially designed equipment used for material, irradiation and creep test, must satisfy the operational requirement on the hydraulic characteristics and structural integrity. In this study, a pressure drop, a flow-induced vibration and a short-term endurance test for the newly developed non-instrumented test capsule were carried out using FIVPET as a out-pile evaluation test. The test results show that the new test rig satisfy the HANARO operational requirement with sufficient margin.

  • Steel pipe piles have been used as various deep foundation materials for a long time. Recent increase in steel material cost has made engineers reluctant in using it even with its good quality and ease of construction. Therefore when constructing with steel pipe pile, the decision to reuse the excessive pile length that is cut off from the designed pile head elevation after pile driving can be cost saving. This has caused many constructors to reuse the pile leftovers with new piles, but the absence of quantitative structural capacity behaviors of steel pipe pile after pile driving or appropriate countermeasures and standards in reusing steel pipe pile has resulted in wrong applications, pile structural integrity problems, inappropriate limitation of reusable pile length, etc. The structural performance analysis between a new pile and a pile that has undergone working state and ultimate state stress level during pile driving was performed in this research by means of comparing the results between the dynamic pile load test, tensile load test, charpy energy test and fatigue test for high strength steel of $440N/mm^2$ yield strength. Test results show that under working load conditions the yield strength variation is less than 2% and for ultimate load conditions the variation is less than 5% for maximum total blow count of 3000. The results have been statistically analyzed to check the sensitivity of each factors involved. From the test results, reusability of steel pipe pile lies not in the main pipe yield strength deviation but in the reduction of absorb energy, strength changes and quality control at the welded section, shape deformation and local buckling during pile driving.
