  • The relationship between mean air temperature after heading and starch characteristics of colored rice grains was investigated using three colored rice cultivars. Pasting temperature within each rice cultivar with different harvest times differed. The pasting temperatures of two rice cultivars, Hongjinju and Joseongheugchal, reached the highest at 40 days after heading and decreased during the late harvest time. Distribution of amylopectin in the Hongjinju rice cultivar at the earlier harvest time contained a greater number of very short chains with the degree of polymerization (DP) between 6 and 12 and fewer chains with a DP from 13 to 24 than that of the later harvest time. However, there was little difference in the distribution of the longer chains of $25{\leq}DP{\geq}36$ and $37{\leq}DP$ for latter harvest times compared to that of the earlier ones. It was suggested that the structure of amylopectin affected the varietal differences in patterns of chain length of amylopectin during grain filling. In addition, the control of ripening was different from that causing the pigment effects in the fine structure of amylopectin in the three colored rice cultivars. Larger starch granules were observed in the Joseongheugchal rice cultivar and smaller granules occurred in the Hongjinju rice cultivar. The present study revealed that later harvest times led to a clear increase in the mean granule size of starch in the three colored rice cultivars.

  • Goethite, ${\alpha}$-FeOOH have various applications such as absorbent, pigment and source for magnetic materials. Goethite particles were synthesized in a two step process, where $Fe(OH)_2$ were synthesized in nitrogen atmosphere using $FeSO_4$ as a raw material in the first process, and after that acicular goethite particles were obtained in an air oxidation process of $Fe(OH)_2$ in highly alkaline aqueous solution. Their phase and microstructure were investigated with XRD and FE-SEM. It was found that the morphology of goethite and the ratio of length-to-width (aspect ratio) of acicular goethite are dependent on the some factors such as R value ($OH^-/Fe^{2+}$), air flow rate and pH conditions. In particular, R value has the strongest influence on the synthesized goethite morphology. It is considered that the optimal value R is 4.5 because X-ray diffraction peaks of goethite have the highest intensity at that value. Morphology of goethite particles was controlled by air flow rates, showing that their size and aspect ratio are getting smaller and decrease, respectively as air flow rate increases. The largest goethite particle obtained is about 1,500 nm in length and 150 nm in diameter.

  • This study aimed to comparatively analyze changes in skin conditions according to the frequency of sheet mask use among women in their 60s. An experiment was performed for 5 weeks from May 1 to June 3, 2020. A total of 70 women in their 60s, who understood the purposes of this study and agreed to the experiment were selected. All empirical analyses were conducted at a significance level of 5%, and the SPSS WIN 21 program was used to perform statistical analysis. Increased moisture content, decreased coarseness, changes in sebum levels, and decreased pigmentation, were significant effects of sheet mask use for 7days per week. As long as the sheet mask did not irritate the skin, had a positive effects on the skin the more often it was used. These results can help in enhancing the effectiveness of systematic measurement and improvement of skin type. To determine factors affecting skin conditions, it is necessary to investigate and compare factors such as effects of dietary or living habits, genetic influence, and living environments.

  • Research of color has been developed and also has raised consumer desire through changing from a tool to pursue curiosity or beauty to a tool creating effects in the 20th century. People have been interested in colors as a dynamic expression of results since the color TV appeared. The meaning of colors has been recently diversified as the roles of colors became important to the emotional aspects of design. While auto colors have developed along with such changes of the times, black led the color trend during the first half of the 20th century from 1900 to 1950, a transitional period of economic growth and world war. Since then, automobile production has increased apace with the rapid economic growth throughout the world and automobiles became the most expensive item out of the goods that people use. Accordingly, increasing production induced facility investment in mass production and a technology leveling was achieved. Auto manufacturing processes are very complicated, auto makers gradually recognized that software changes such as to colors or materials was an easier way for the improvement of brand identity as opposed to hardware changes such as the mechanical or design components of the body. Color planning and development systems were segmented in various aspects. In the segmentation issue, pigment technology and painting methods are important elements that have an influence on body colors and have a higher technical correlation with colors than in other industries. In other words, the advanced mixture of pigments is creating new body colors that have not existed previously. This diversifies the painting structure and methods and so maximizes the transparency and depth of body colors. Thus, body colors that are closely related to technical factors will increase in the future and research on color preferences by region have been systemized to cope with global competition due to the expansion and change of auto export regions.

  • This study was carried out to determine environmental factors affecting the anthocyanin content of color-fleshed potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) tubers. After planting of two color-fleshed potato cultivars of 'Hongyoung' and 'Jayoung' in different 14 locations, their soil chemical properties and meteorological data were evaluated, and anthocyanin contents of tubers were analyzed after harvest, additionally their relationship among them was analyzed through correlation analysis. In comparison with two cultivars, purple-fleshed 'Jayoung' potatoes showed higher anthocyanin content than red-fleshed 'Hongyoung' in almost locations. When locations were divided to three categories (highland, sub-highland and lowland) according to altitude, in general, highland-grown tubers had the higher content of anthocyanin compared to those grown in lowland. An analysis of the results of chemical components of soil showed that anthocyanin content of color-fleshed potato tubers was negatively correlated with the pH of soil. In addition, mean temperature and minimum temperature from 80 to 100 days after planting most significantly affected on the accumulation of anthocyanin in color-fleshed potato tubers, that is, higher content of anthocyanin was observed in tubers produced in locations with lower mean temperature and minimum temperature from 80 to 100 days after planting. This information can be useful to producers and industries in selection of proper fields for the production of color-fleshed potato tubers having high quality in Korea.

  • For pearl pigments used for splendor or gloss effect of make-up products, especiallv point make-up products like eye-shadow and blusher, we studied the variation of particle size distribution by the grinding time and by the binder used as a binding agent. In this study. high speed mixer was used and the particle sire distribution was measured by using the light scattering method. In case of pearl pigments, its median diameter of $5{\;}{\mu}m$, the particle size was reduced to 4.6 um when it was ground for 120 s. When it was applied for the pearl pigment of $45{\;}{\mu}m$, the particle size was reduced to $27{\;}{\mu}m$. We confirmed that the latter was reduced more largely and the original gloss was reduced too. For the binder, we studied the correlation between particle size of raw material and grinding time. We also investigated the effects of the binder contents on the variation of particle size distribution of products by aggregation of particles.

  • This paper describes a methode to extract yellow pigment from curcuma and turmeric containing natural color curcumin whose target color indexes of L, a, and b were 87.0 7.43, and 88.2, respectively. The pH range and extraction temperature used for the reaction surface analysis method were from pH 3 to pH 7 and between 40 and $70^{\circ}C$, respectively for both natural products. A central synthesis planning model combined with the method was used to obtain optimal extraction conditions to produce the color close to target. Results and regression equations show that the color space and difference of curcuma and turmeric have the greatest influence on the value. In the case of curcuma, the optimum conditions to satisfy all of the response theoretical values of color coordinates of L (74.67), a (5.69), and b (70.08) were at the pH and temperature of 3.43 and $54.8^{\circ}C$, respectively. The experimentally obtained L, a, and b, values under optimal conditions were 72.92, 5.32, and 72.17, respectively. For the case of turmeric, theoretical numerical color coordinates of L, a, and b, under the pH of 5.22 and temperature of $50.4^{\circ}C$ were 82.02, 7.43, and 72.86 respectively. Whereas, the experiment results were L (81.85), a (5.39), and b (71.58). Both cases showed an error range within 1%. Therefore, it is possible to obtain a low error rate when applying the central synthesis planning model to the reaction surface analysis method as an optimization process of the dye extraction of natural raw materials.

  • Phytoplankton controls marine ecosystems in terms of nutrients, photosynthetic rate, carbon cycle, etc. and the degree of its influence on the marine environment depends on their physical size. Many studies have been attempted to identify marine phytoplankton size classes using the remote sensing techniques. One of successful approach was the three-component model which estimates the chlorophyll concentrations of three phytoplankton size classes (micro-phytoplankton; >20 ㎛, nano-; 2-20 ㎛ and pico-; <2 ㎛) as a function of total chlorophyll. Here, we examined the applicability of Geostationary Ocean Colour Imager (GOCI) to the mapping of the phytoplankton size class distribution in the East Sea. A fit of the three-component model to a biomarker pigment dataset collected in the study area for some years including a large harmful algal bloom period has been carried out to derive size-fractioned chlorophyll concentration (CHL). The tuned three-component model was applied to the hourly GOCI images to identify the fractions of each phytoplankton size class for the entire CHL. Then, we investigated the distribution of phytoplankton community in terms of the size structure in the East Sea during the harmful Cochlodinium polykrikoides blooms in the summer of 2013.

  • This study was carried out to examine the changes of the quality feature and antioxidant activity of grape by-products. This experiment was to arrange the basic data for developing a functional material using grape by-products which were useless resources. Hot-air and freeze drying were followed by the gamma irradiation of 1~20 kGy. Hunter's color value, in case of hot-air drying, showed the highest L and a value in the 3 kGy, and it decreased according to the increase of the exposure dose. In the case of fre ze drying it showed the highest L and b value at the highest exposure, 20 kGy. It was considered that the breakdown of the pigment through high temperature processing was launched and the influence according to the gamma irradiation was not shown. The gamma irradiation of 3 kGy appeared to have a good influence on the color of the grape by-products which went through hot-air drying. The contents of the total phenolic compounds, in case of hot-air drying, showed the highest total polyphenol contents in the 3 kGy irradiation and it decreased according to the increase of the exposure dose; in contrast, the higher phenolic contents showed in the irradiated group than in the control. In case of freeze drying, the highest phenolic contents appeared in the control but 3 kGy showed the highest one in the irradiated group. Results of radical scavenging activity using DPPH and ABTS indicated that 3 kGy showed the highest radical scavenging activity in hot-air and freeze drying. Therefore, it was found that gamma irradiation of 3 kGy could improve the color and antioxidant activity of grape by-products, but an antioxidant activity of grape by-product due to the gamma irradiation was a little affected in the aspects of by-product utilization.
