MgO enhanced $(Ba_{0.6}Sr_{0.4})$$TiO_3$ thick films have been fabricated by a tape casting and firing method for tunable devices on the microwave frequency band. In order to improve ferroelectric properties, the composite thick films enhanced with MgO on BST have been asymmetrically annealed by a focused halogen beam method. Dielectric constants of composite thick films are changed from 1050 to 1300 at 100 kHz after 60 s and 150 s annealing by the focused halogen beam. Even though no prominent changes were previously observed from the thick films before and after annealing in terms of chemical composition and surface morphology, it is clear that the average particle size of the thick films calculated by Scherrer's formula were increased by annealing. Furthermore, a strong correlation between particle size and dielectric constant of the composite thick films has been observed; dielectric constant increases with increased particle size. This has been attributed to the increased volume of ferroelectric domain due to increased particle sizes. As a result, the tuning range was improved by halogen beam annealing.

A rotating device driven by an Inchworm motor was designed and fabricated to be used as an angie standard system. 1. PZT was adopted as a driving source, while the movement of PZT was guided by the leaf spring employing the elastic transformation of metals. 2. The device could rotate in a 360-degree arc. continuously Performance test of the device showed about 0.02 sec. of the minimum revolution angle and 1/15 rpm of the maimum revolution speed. 3. To improve its performance requires further studies on realizing a shifting device with faster response time, on increasing the output current (capacity) of the power amplifier used to drive PZT, on the dynamic motion of clamping. and on determining the optimum clamping condition

Wearable and ubiquitous micro systems will be greatly growing and their related devices should be self-powered in order to avoid the replacement of finite power sources, for example, by scavenging energy from the environment. With ever reducing power requirements of both analog and digital circuits, power scavenging approaches are becoming increasingly realistic. One approach is to drive an electromechanical converter from ambient motion or vibration. Vibration-driven generators based on electromagnetic, electrostatic and piezoelectric technologies have been demonstrated. Among various generator types proposed so far, piezoelectric generator possesses considerable potential in micro system. To overcome low mechanical-to-electric energy conversion, the piezoelectric device should activate in resonance mode in response to external vibration. Normally, the external vibration excretes at low frequency ranging 0.1 to 200 Hz, whereas the resonant frequencies of the devices are fixed as constant. Therefore, keeping their resonant mode in varying external vibration can be one of important points in enhancing the conversion efficiency. We investigated the possibility of use of multi-bender type piezoelectric devices. To match the external vibration frequency with the device resonant frequency, the various devices with different resonant frequency were chosen.
In fabricating linear actuator using the GMA(Giant Magnetostrictive Alloy : Terfenol-D). the clamping unit is needed to accumlate each displacement from the GMA rod. Two types of the clamping unit (one is using piezoelectric device and the other electromagnetic farce) were made and tested. From the result of the experiment, we conclude that the electromagnetic clamping unit has advantages over the piezoelectric clamping unit.

Finding renewable and clean energy resources is essential research to solve global warming and depletion of fossil fuels in modern society. Recently, complex harvesting of energy from multiple sources is available in our living environments using a single device has become highly desirable, representing a new trend in energy technologies. We report that when simultaneously driving the fusion and composite cells of two or more types, it is possible to make an affect the other cells to obtain a greater synergistic effect. To understand the coupling effect of photovoltaic and piezoelectric device, we fabricate the serially integrated hybrid cell (s-HC) based on organic solar cell (OSC) and piezoelectric nanogenerator (PNG). The size of increased voltage peaks when OSC and PNG are working on is larger than the case when only PNG is working. This voltage difference is the Voc change of OSC, not the voltage change of PNG and current density difference between these two cases is manifested more clearly. When the OSC and PNG are working in s-HC at the same time, piezoelectric potential (VPNG) is generated in ZnO and theoretical total voltage is sum of voltage of an OSC (VOSC) and VPNG. However, electrons from OSC are influenced by piezoelectric potential in ZnO and current loss of OSC in whole circuit decreases. As a result, VOSC increases temporarily. Current shows the similar behavior. PNG acts a resistance in the whole circuit and current loss occurs when the electrons from OSC pass through the PNG. But piezoelectric potential recover current loss and decrease the resistance of PNG. Our PNG can maintain piezoelectric potential when the strain is held owing to the LDH layer while general PNG cannot maintain piezoelectric potential. During the section that strain is held, voltage enhancement effect is maintained and same effect appeared even turn off the light. Actually at this time, electrons in ZnO nanosheets move to LDH and trapped by the positive charges in this layer. After this strain is held, piezoelectric potential of ZnO nanosheets is disappeared but potential difference which is developed by negative charge dominant LDH layer is remained. This potential acts similar role like piezoelectric potential in ZnO. Electrons from the OSC also are influenced by this potential and the more current flows.
In this paper, the electrical characteristics of $\lambda$ vibration-mode piezoelectric transformer for applying to CCFL driving inverter was investigated. Piezoelectric transformer was made of PZT - PMN - 0.5wt% $Nb_{2}O_{5}$ composition. As a results of the electrical characteristics of piezoelectric transformer, when applied voltage was $35[V_{rms}]$ in $100[k{\Omega}]$ load resistance, output voltage was about $710[V_{rms}]$ and output power was more than 2[W]. As output power increased, step-up ratio and temperature was very stable until output power was 2.5[W]. Also, Efficiency was maximum in $70[k{\Omega}]$ load resistance, and about 89[%]. Also, when CCFL was used as load, the maintaining voltage was $700[V_{rms}]$ and the luminescence was $2000[cd/m^2]$ in applying $25[V_{rms}]$ to piezoelectric transformer. Conclusively, piezoelectric transformer fabricated in this paper can be applied to piezoelectric inverter for CCFL driving.

Piezoelectric energy harvesting technologies, which can be used to convert the electricity from the mechanical energy, have been developed in order to assist or power the wearable electronics. To realize non-toxic and biocompatible electronics, the lead-free (Ba0.85Ca0.15)(Ti0.90Zr0.10)O3 (BCTZ) nanoparticles (NPs) are being studied with a great attention as flexible energy harvesting device. Herein, piezoelectric hybrid nanocomposites were fabricated using BCTZ NPs-embedded poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) [P(VDF-TrFE)] matrix to improve the performance of flexible energy harvester. Output performance of the fabricated energy device was investigated by the well-optimized measurement system during the periodically bending and releasing motions. The generated open-circuit voltage and the short-circuit current of the piezoelectric hybrid nanocomposite-based energy harvester reached up to ~15 V and ~1.1 ㎂, respectively; moreover, the instantaneous power of 3.5 ㎼ is determined from load voltage and current at the external load of 20 MΩ. This research is expected to cultivate a new approach to high-performance wearable self-powering electronics.

Lead oxide based ceramics, represented by PZT, are the most widely used materials for piezoelectric actuators, sensors, and transducers due to their excellent piezoelectric properties. In particular, high-performance multilayered piezoelectric ceramics for advanced electronic components have drawn great attention. In order to develop piezoelectric ceramics capable of being sintered at low temperature for multilayer piezoelectric device applications, the effect of CuO additions on the microstructures and electromechanical properties of the 0.4Pb$(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.25PbZrO_3-0.35PbTiO_3$ ceramics was investigated. The samples with CuO addition were synthesized by ordinary sintering technique. X-ray diffractions indicated that all samples formed a single phase perovskite structure. The addition of CuO improved the sinterability of the samples and caused an increase in the density and grain size at low temperature. The optimum sintering temperature was lowered by CuO additions. Excellent piezoelectric and electromechanical responses, $d_{33}$ ~ 663 pC/N, $k_p$ ~ 0.72, were obtained for the samples of high density with 0.1 wt% CuO addition sintered at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 4 h in air. These results show that the piezoelectric properties of PMNZT ceramics can be improved by controlling the microstructure and this system is potentially a good candidate as multilayer piezoelectric device for a wide range of electro-mechanical transducer applications.

In this study, the piezoelectric fan cooling system is investigated. In order to find the proper geometry and configuration, the numerical model for the flow field and heat transfer investigation is used. A simplified nonlinear deformation model is employed for transient solutions of a piezoelectric fan with the dynamic mesh and user defined function capability. The results show that the cooling is most effective when the length of a piezoelectric fan is 5 cm and the cooling plate is 3 cm. The results can be used to develop a new design method of heat sink for piezoelectric fans.
