Real-time Measurement of Precision Displacement using Fiber Optic EFPI Sensor (광섬유 EFPI 센서를 이용한 실시간 고정밀 변위 측정)

  • Precision displacement of less than a few nm resolution was measured in real-time using fiber optic EFPI sensor. The novel method for real-time processing of analyzing EFPI output signal was developed and verified. Linearity in the mean values of interferometric light intensity among adjacent fringes was shown, and the sinusoidal approximation algorithm that estimates past and coming fringe values was verified through the linearity. Real-time signal processing program was developed, and the intensity signal of the EFPI sensor was transformed to the phase shift with this program. The resolution below 0.4 ~ 10 nm in the displacement range of $0 ~ 300\mu\textrm{m}$ was obtained by reducing the photodetector noise using low-pass filter and signal averaging. The nano-translation stage with a Piezo-electric actuator and the EFPI sensor system was designed and tested. This stage successfully reached to the desired destination in $15\mu\textrm{m}$ range within 1 nm accuracy.

  • After the micro turning lathe was developed in the last year by AMR Laboratory, a micro-milling machine is developed for micro machining. This machine is integrated with PZT-driven micro-sliders, micro-linear encoders, air turbine spindle which has maximum 150.000 rpm. It is applicable to milling and drilling machining. This paper shows the possibility of micro machining and characteristics of micro end milling process by using micro machine. A machining of micro barrier ribs using 0.2 mm flat type end mill was achieved by micro-milling machine. As experimental results show the machining capability and positional accuracy of this machine is good enough for machining micro parts.

  • A fuzzy logic controller design technique is proposed to apply to the control of flexible system under irregular disturbance. The fuzzy rules of $\ulcorner$Mode Selecting Fuzzy Controller$\lrcorner$ are constructed using displacement, velocity information and modal characteristics of the system. The frequency information of flexible system is picked up from $\ulcorner$Mode Selecting Unit$\lrcorner$ based on Fast-Fourier transform algorithm.   • To predict the radiating noise from the vibrating surface, it is required to know the velocity distribution of vibrating surface exactly as possible as it can. Although it can be obtained by finite element method, their accuracy is limited by theuncertainty of preparing input data such as material propoerties, damping, excitation, and the actual boundary conditions. Experimental values are accurate but are seldom available as many asthe data points compared to FEM mesh. Therefore, hybrid method of experiment and finite element method, called modal expansion technique, is investigated for the preparatin of accurate element method at specified frequencies and for the verification of this scheme, related experiment is performed. In high frequency range above 2000 Hz, piezo-electric material is used as an actuator.

  • The magnetostriction of FeCoGe/phenol composites, which is one of the magnetostrictive materials, measured at the external magnetic field. The measurement was carried out using the electrical-resistance strain gage, the wheaten's Bridge for eliminating the unnecessary voltage, and the lock-in-amp for signal amplification and noise filtering. When the external magnetic field was applied in the longitudinal the samples, the maximum strain of 120ppm was taken with regard to the 10wt.% phenol composite. This results indicate that the FeCoGe/phenol composites can be useful as an actuator because it has larger stain than the other solid state actuators such as piezo electric materials.

  • A study on the robust control of a composite beam with a distributed PVDF sensor and piezo-ceramic actuator is presented in this paper. 1st and 2nd natural frequencies are considered in the modeling, because robust control theory which has robustness to structured uncertainty is adopted to suppress the vibration. If the controllers designed by H$_{\infty}$ theory do not satisfy control performance, it is improved by $\mu$-synthesis method with D-K iteration so that the $\mu$-controller based on the structured singular value satisfies the nominal performance and robust performance. Simulation and experiment were carried out with the designed controller and the verification of the robust control properties was presented by results.

  • For compensating the error motion of hydrostatic guideways, the structure and the theoretical design method of ACC(Active Controlled Capillary) are proposed. The maximum controllable range, micro step response and dynamic characteristics of ACC are analyzed experimentally for verifing the availability. The experimental results showed that by the use of ACC, the error motion within 2.7${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of a hydrostatic guideway can be compensated with the resolution of 27nm, 1/100 of uncontolled error, and the frequency band of 5.5Hz. From these results, it Is confirmed that the ACC is very effect to improve the moving accuracy of high or ultra precision hydrostatic guideways.

  • This study aims to develop a PZT-driven depth adjustment device with a flexure hinge and to investigate its static/dynamic characteristics. This device will be applied to rapidly and accurately trace a flat surface with slight waviness of up to several hundreds of micrometers in magnitude. One typical example is to cut a film coated on a steel plate. A depth control system composed of PMAC, PZT/PZT amplifier, flexure hinge/knife, and laser displacement sensor is implemented on a desktop three-axis machine and an actual cutting test is conducted on a steel workpiece with a sinusoidal-wavy surface. It is verified that the dynamic characteristics of the device limit the maximum cutting speed and depth precision.

  • In this study, active vibration control for a flexible cantilever beam was performed by using the intelligent control technique. The intelligent control method which integrating the back propagation algorithm and the fuzzy inference technique was proposed and its performance was examined. The proposed control algorithm for the flexible cantilever beam was verified via computer simulation of active vibration control. Furthermore, the control system and its efficiency were investigated via experiments on active vibration control by the intelligent control technique without a digital signal processing device.
