  • Piezo devices have large power density and simple structure. They can generate larger force than the conventional actuators. It has also wide bandwidth with fast response in a compact size. Thus the piezo devices are expected to be used widely in the future for small actuators with fast response time and large actuating force. However, the piezo actuators need high voltage with high driving current due to their large capacitive property. In this paper, we propose a simple method to drive piezo devices using voltage inversion circuit with coil inductance. Experiments with real circuit demonstrates that the proposed scheme can improve the energy efficiency very much.

  • Piezo devices have large power density and simple structure compared with conventional electrical motors. Thus they can generate larger forces than the conventional actuators with small size. Their resopnses to commands are also very fast and thus the bandwidths are very wide. Thus the piezo devices are expected to be used widely in the future for actuating devices requiring fast response and large actuating force with small size. However, the piezo actuators need high voltage with high driving current due to their large capacitive property. In this paper, proposed is a simple method to drive piezo devices using voltage inversion circuit with coli inductance. The coil inductance carries the charges in the piezo device to the opposite side, inverting the polarity of the applied voltage, thus saving the power to drive the device with AC voltages. Experiments with real circuit demonstrates that the proposed scheme can improve the energy efficiency very much.

  • Piezo devices such as piezoceramic patches knwon as collocated rate sensor and actuators are commonly used in control of flexible structure (see, e.g., [1]) and noise reduction. Recently, Ito and Kang ([4]) developed a nonlinear feedback control synthesis for regulating fluid flow using these devices.

  • Piezoelectric materials have been investigated as vibration energy converters to power wireless devices or MEMS devices due to the recent low power requirements of such devices and the advancement in miniaturization technology. Piezoelectric power generation can be an alternative to the traditional power source-battery because of the presence of facile vibration sources in our environment and the potential elimination of the maintenance required for large volume batteries. This paper represents the new power source which supplies energy device node. This system, called "energy harvesting system", with piezo materials scavenges extra energy such as vibration and acceleration from the environment. Then it converts the mechanical energy scavenged to electrical energy for powering device This paper explains the properties of piezo material through theoretical analysis and experiments The developed system provides a solution to overcome the critical problem of making up wireless device networks.

  • We studied to detect the mass variation using micro mechanical resonator. For measuring the resonance frequency of the micro mechanical system, optical method using laser interference is selected. A simple resonator is prepared by attaching an AFM cantilever on the piezo stack. The piezo stack makes a the cantilever vibrated with its resonance frequency. To change the mass of the resonator, gold was evaporated on the cantilever. We measured how much resonance frequency was changed according to the amount of gold attached on cantilever. This resonator is able to perform the role of a mass sensor and has a resolution of the order of micrograms. The fabrication of the resonator and measurement setup for detecting the mechanical resonance will be introduced in this presentation.

  • Comparative analysis of driving inverters for piezo-electric transformer (PT) is performed and the suit- able drive circuit for portable devices such as personal digital assistants (PDA) is chosen with the experiment in this paper. As a result, a single-switch inverter with a small two winding reactor is chosen, and then the advantages of this method are clarified. It is also confirmed that the driving inverter with this method enables to realize a stabilized AC 400v output and 82% power efficiency from DC 3V input under the conditions of the variations of load current or input voltage from the experiments. • The purpose of the present study is to develop lightweight and simple smart actuators in order to replace conventional hydraulic/pneumatic actuators, and to apply the developed actuators to the actuation systems of a small unmanned air vehicle. This research describes the procedures of design, manufacturing of the piezo-composite actuator, and the performance evaluation. From the test results of the developed devices, we found the possibility of piezo-composite actuator could be used as a control surface of a small UAV system. We have designed and manufactured two kinds of piezo-composite actuators, unimorph actuator and bimorph actuator. The manufactured actuators were evaluated through the performance testes. It was found that the bimorph type actuator showed more linear angle change for the same excitation voltage variation than unimorph type. It is expected that piezo-composite actuator has a possibility to be used not only as a control surface of small unmanned flying vehicle but also as a control surface actuator of a guided missile fin through the miniaturization of power supply and control system.

  • Recently, inertial sensors are popularly used for the location and position recognition of small devices for M2M/IoT. In this paper, we designed low power, low noise, small sized 6-axis inertial sensor IC for mobile applications, which uses a 3-axis piezo-electric gyroscope sensor and a 3-axis piezo-resistive accelerometer sensor. Proposed IC is composed of 3-axis gyroscope readout circuit, two gyroscope sensor driving circuits, 3-axis accelerometer readout circuit, 16bit sigma-delta ADC, digital filter and control circuit and memory. TSMC $0.18{\mu}m$ mixed signal CMOS process was used. Proposed IC reduces 27% of the current consumption of LSM330.

  • Wurtzite nanomaterials, such as ZnO, GaN, and InN, have become a subject of great scientific and technological interest as they simultaneously have piezoelectric and semiconductor properties. In particular, the piezoelectric potential (piezopotential) created by dynamic straining in the nanowires drives a transient flow of current in the external load, converting mechanical energy into electricity. Further, the piezopotential can be used to control the carrier generation, transport, separation, and/or recombination at the metal-semiconductor junction or p-n junction, which is called the piezophototronic effect. This paper reviews the recent advances on the piezophototronic effect to better use the piezophototronic effect to control the carrier generation, transport, separation and/or recombination for improving the performance of optoelectronic devices, such as photon detectors, solar cells and LEDs. This paper also discusses several research and design studies that have improved the output performance of optoelectronic devices.

  • DMFC uses oxygen by reactants. Therefore, cathode electrode must contact with outside air. However, when used in mobile devices, the user's body by blocking the air intake on the oxygen supply DMFC con not. DMFC to supply air to the cooling fan is used. However, by using cooling fan, air inlet to the pressure loss and changes will occurs, the output will be worse. In this paper, we designed air supplying system using piezo actuators. We DMFC evaluation system was implemented, verified the performance of air supplying system. And the operation was connected to an MP3 player.
