The effects of lidocaine on the parameters of haematology and blood chemistry were investigated in the carp(Cyprinus carpio). At low concentrations(100 and 200 ppm) of lidocaine, no significant changes in the parameters of haematology and blood chemistry were observed during recovery period from the treatment of lidocaine. However, at high concentrations(300 and 400 ppm) of lidocaine, red blood cell(RBC) and hematocrit(Ht) value, plasma glucose concentration, and the activity of lactate dehydogenase(LDH) were markedly increased compared with the controls. These increases were maintained for up to 60 min. Based on these results, it is suggested that lidocaine is generally not toxic to fish but has shown the physiological stress responses at high concentrations.
There are considerable interests in bat biology for investigating hibernation mechanism, in special regard to a hypothesis that the entry into hibernation is closely related with epileptic fit (petit mal) accompanying falling of body temperature, which is characterized by 3 spikes and wave/sec formation in electroencephalograph (EEG). This study was designed in order to examine physiological parameters (body temperature, heart rate, electroencephalograph and brain mapping) during normal patterns of the entry into hibernation and the hibernation period, and to observe effects of epileptogenic agents such as THC, Metrazol, and ILS on the physiological parameters. Based on the experimental results the entry into some hibernation seems to be related with epileptic fit, and therefore it is deduced that north temperate bats and the hamsters might be induced into hibernation by epileptogenic factors (pentylenetetrazol, THC and ILS etc) accompanying falling of body temperature and unique EEG and brain mapping.
Heat stress results in fatigue, a decline in strength, alertness., and mental capacity. The problem is compounded when high humidity exists. To help relieve worker heat stress, many types of cooling units are marketed. While workers may experience some cooling, critical body core temperatures often continue to elevate. This study was designed to find the effects of three kinds of cooling vest with portable frozen gel strips on thermophysiological parameters and on temperature and humidity within clothing. The heart rate, rectal, and skin temperature as well as sweat rate and clothing microclimate were measured during 80 min in 5 healthy males. Inquiries were also made into the subjective rating thermal, humidity comfort, and fatigue sensations. The main findings in our experiments are as follows: (a) Physiological parameters such as rectal temperature was the lowest in garb A1, intermediate in garb A, and the highest in garb A2 throughout the experiment. And mean skin temperature was the lowest in garb A, intermediate in garb A1, and the highest in garb A2; (b) Temperature and humidity within clothing (back) were garb in Al, intermediate in garb A, and the highest in garb A2. But the temperature and humidity within clothing (chest) were garb in A, intermediate in garb A1, and the highest in garb A2; (c) Most participants (4 out of 5 persons) answered that they felt more comfortable and fatigueless in garb A1 than in garb A and A2. It is concluded that local cooling in garb A1 of the upper torso could physiological reduce the thermal strain in participants wearing cooling vest.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the content and effectiveness of psychosocial support interventions for women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Methods: The following databases were searched with no limitation of the time period: Ovid-MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, Ovid-Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, NDSL, KoreaMed, RISS, and KISS. Two investigators independently reviewed and selected articles according to the predefined inclusion/exclusion criteria. ROB 2.0 and the RoBANS 2.0 checklist were used to evaluate study quality. Results: Based on the 14 selected studies, psychosocial support interventions were provided for the purpose of (1) informational support (including GDM and diabetes mellitus information; how to manage diet, exercise, stress, blood glucose, and weight; postpartum management; and prevention of type 2 diabetes mellitus); (2) self-management motivation (setting goals for diet and exercise management, glucose monitoring, and enhancing positive health behaviors); (3) relaxation (practicing breathing and/or meditation); and (4) emotional support (sharing opinions and support). Psychosocial supportive interventions to women with GDM lead to behavioral change, mostly in the form of self-care behavior; they also reduce depression, anxiety and stress, and have an impact on improving self-efficacy. These interventions contribute to lowering physiological parameters such as fasting plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin, and 2-hour postprandial glucose levels. Conclusion: Psychosocial supportive interventions can indeed positively affect self-care behaviors, lifestyle changes, and physiological parameters in women with GDM. Nurses can play a pivotal role in integrative management and can streamline the care for women with GDM during pregnancy and following birth, especially through psychosocial support interventions.

A hydroponics experiment was performed to study the physiological and biochemical changes in Moroccan barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) varieties cultivated under salt stress conditions. Four barley varieties were grown under exposure to three salt concentrations, including 0, 200, and 300 mM NaCl. The ANOVA for both salt stress-sensitive and resistant varieties indicated that salt treatment represented the main source of variability in all studied traits. Salt treatment significantly reduced root and shoot dry weight (RDW and SDW), relative water content (RWC), and chlorophyll content (Chl a, Chl b, and Chl T). However, increases in electrolyte leakage (EL) along with proline and total soluble sugar (TSS) contents were recorded. In addition, large variations in all measured traits were found between varieties. The 'Massine' and 'Laanaceur' varieties displayed relatively higher RDW and SDW values. The 'Amira' and 'Adrar' varieties showed lower RWC values and Chl contents than those of the controls indicating their relative sensitivity to salt stress. Principal component analysis revealed that most of the variation was captured by PC1 (72% of the total variance) which grouped samples into three categories according to salt treatment. Correlation analyses highlighted significant associations between most parameters. Positive relationships were found between RDW, SDW, RWC, Chl content, and soluble proteins contents, while all of these parameters were negatively associated with EL intensity, proline content, and TSS content. The results from this study showed that the 'Massine' and 'Laanaceur' varieties were relatively salt-tolerant. These two salt-tolerant varieties present a good genetic background for breeding of barley varieties showing high salt tolerance.

Recently, intensive research has been conducted to develop innovative methods for diagnosing plant diseases based on hyperspectral technologies. Hyperspectral analysis is a new subject that combines optical spectroscopy and image analysis methods, which makes it possible to simultaneously evaluate both physiological and morphological parameters. Among the physiological and morphological parameters are classifying healthy and diseased plants, assessing the severity of the disease, differentiating the types of pathogens, and identifying the symptoms of biotic stresses at early stages, including during the incubation period, when the symptoms are not visible to the human eye. Plant diseases cause significant economic losses in agriculture around the world as the symptoms of diseases usually appear when the plants are infected severely. Early detection, quantification, and identification of plant diseases are crucial for the targeted application of plant protection measures in crop production. Hence, this can be done by possible applications of hyperspectral sensors and platforms on different scales for disease diagnosis. Further, the main areas of application of hyperspectral sensors in the diagnosis of plant diseases are considered, such as detection, differentiation, and identification of diseases, estimation of disease severity, and phenotyping of disease resistance of genotypes. This review provides a deeper understanding, of basic principles and implementation of hyperspectral sensors that can measure pathogen-induced changes in plant physiology. Hence, it brings together critically assessed reports and evaluations of researchers who have adopted the use of this application. This review concluded with an overview that hyperspectral sensors, as a non-invasive system of measurement can be adopted in early detection, identification, and possible solutions to farmers as it would empower prior intervention to help moderate against decrease in yield and/or total crop loss.

The aim of this study was to find correlation between EGG and HRV parameters in dyspeptic patients. 39 patients (male 8, female 31) were enrolled. EGG and HRV was measured in all patients. EGG parameters like % of gastric slow wave and power ratio were used to classify patients as normal or abnormal EGG groups. HRV parameters which were included TP (total power), LF(low frequency density), HF (high frequency density), and LF/HF ratio were compared between them. EGG parameters were compared among normal, sympathetic hyperactivity, and parasympathetic hyperactivity groups classified by LF/HF ratio. There was no difference in HRV parameters between normal and abnormal EGG groups. Comparing EGG parameters among normal, sympathetic hyperactivity, and parasympathetic hyperactivity groups, both sympathetic and parasympathetic hyperactivity groups had lower value of postprandial regularity of gastric slow wave than normal group. Abnormal value of LF/HF ratio(both sympathetic and parasympathetic hyperactivity) may be related with disturbance of electrical gastric activity in patients with dyspepsia.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of polyethylene microplastic (PE-MPs) via measuring the growth performance, hematological parameters, and antioxidant responses in Korean rockfish Sebastes schlegelii exposed to waterborne polyethylene microplastic with dimensions of 22-71 ㎛. S. schlegelii (mean weight, 34.55±5.82 g; mean length, 12.59±0.79 cm) were exposed to PE-MPs at concentrations of 0, 400, 800, 1,600 and 3,200 ㎍/L for 10 and 20 days. PE-MPs significantly affected growth performance, hematological parameters, plasma components, and antioxidant responses in a concentration-dependent manner. At a concentration ≥1,600 ㎍/L, PE-MPs significantly decreased body weight gain and specific growth rate, and significantly increased the hepatosomatic index. Hematological parameters showed a significant decrease in total red blood cell count and hemoglobin levels. Plasma components showed a significant increase in glucose, aspartate aminotransferase, and alanine transaminase levels, whereas total protein, calcium, and magnesium levels significantly decreased. Exposure to ≥1,600 ㎍/L PE-MPs also induced reactive oxygen species generation in the gill and liver, significantly increasing superoxide dismutase and catalase activity. These findings suggest that exposure to ≥1,600 ㎍/L PE-MPs could significantly change growth performance, hematological parameters, plasma components, and antioxidant responses, resulting in physiological toxicity.

The aim of work was to investigate changes of 7-ketocholesterol synthesis in alveolar macrophages in the dynamic of lung mechanical ventilation with injurious parameters. The goal of in vitro part of work was to observe influence of 7-ketocholesterol on iNOS and MIP1 $\beta$ production in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) cells. We used 17 healthy domestic pigs randomly assigned into two treatment groups: group I with mechanical ventilation with physiological parameters; group II underwent injurious ventilation with high volume tidal (VT) and low positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP). Cells were analyzed for CYP27A1 protein and gene expression levels, 7-ketocholesterol production. In alveolar macrophages of group II, we obtained increase of production of CYP27A1 protein and 7-ketocholesterol, as well as the expression of the CYP27A1 gene at the 2nd hour of ventilation. In the in vitro experiments we show dose-dependent increase of MIP1 $\beta$ and decrease of CYP27A1, iNOS protein production after 7-ketocholesterol treatment.
The effects of intra-peritoneal injection of inorganic mercury on haemato-logical parameters and hepatic oxidative stress enzyme activities were studied in common carp, Cyprinus carpio. The fish were injected thrice intra-peritoneally with mercuric chloride TEX>$(5,\;10mg\;Hg\;kg\;b.W.^{-1})$. After exposure of three different mercury concentrations a physiological stress response was exerted on C. carpio by causing changes in the blood status such as erythropenia in blood and oxidative stress in liver. Red blood cell counts, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit level were reduced in most cases by inorganic mercury. Remarkable low level of serum chloride, calcium and osmolality were also observed in the mercury- exposed fish. However, serum magnesium and phosphate were not altered by exposure to mercury. An increased activity of hepatic glutathione peroxidase was observed in the lowest treatment group of carp $(1mg\;Hg\;mg\;b.w.^{-1})$, hence, hepatic catalase and glutathione peroxidase of carp exposed to higher concentration of mercury $(5,\;10mg\;Hg\;kg\;b.W.^{-1})$ showed significant reduction in such activities.
