  • Developed at Colorado State University, CASC2D-SED is a physically-based model simulating the hydrologic response of a watershed to a distributed rainfall field. The time-dependent processes include: precipitation, interception, infiltration, surface runoff and channel routing, upland erosion, transport and sedimentation. CASC2D-SED is applied to Goodwin Creek, Mississippi. The watershed covers 21 $\textrm{km}^2$ and has been extensively monitored both at the outlet and at several internal locations by the ARS-NSL at Oxford, MS. The model has been calibrated and validated using rainfall data from 16 meteorological stations,6 stream gaging stations and 6 sediment gaging stations. Sediment erosion/deposition rates by size fraction are predicted both in space and time. Geovisualization, a powerful data exploration technique based on GIS technology, is used to analyze and display the dynamic output time series generated by the CASC2D-SED model.

  • The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) contains a wealth of information about the perturbations in the early universe. Its bispectrum, the Fourier counterpart of three-point correlation functions, is a direct probe of primordial non-Gaussianity predicted by many physically well motivated inflation models. Motivated by the substantial improvement in sensitivity expected from future CMB surveys, we developed a novel bispectrum estimator capable of handling such high-resolution data. Our code, named CMB-BEst, utilises a set of separable basis functions to constrain a wide variety of models simultaneously. Flexibility in the choice of basis enables targeted analysis on highly oscillatory inflation models, which are previously unconstrained due to the numerical and computational challenges involved. We present the results of our thorough validation tests, both internal and against conventional approaches. We provide a proof-of-concept example with Planck satellite data and sketch out the road ahead.

  • School Crime Prevention Throgh Environmental Design (CPTED) is in the process of building a design guide through a lot of research. However, it is common practice to conduct consulting through existing cases and utilize internal self-evaluation through similar projects, as the self-evaluation criteria are not open to public or unlike other certifications. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to contribute to the development of a more quantitative and objective practical manual by analyzing the evaluation elements of school crime prevention environment design provided by guidelines and guidelines of various organizations and local autonomous bodies involved in school design. As a result of quantifying the school facilities CPTED indicators so far and incorporating the current guidelines, 'Surveillance and access control' of 'Entrance space and parking space' is found to be main. If the various indicators presented above are applied in consideration of the specificity of the school facilities in the application of the school CPTED technique, in addition to the CPTED for physically preventing offenses committed by outsiders, it can be expected to prevent violence among students or social crimes in school education.
