  • Data on 27 W UMa systems having a asymmetric light curve so called O'Conell effect have been collected. Investigated 27 W UMa systems were classified into 12 positive and 15 negative type according to the shape of its asymmetric light curve. A list of members of the group, their current observational statue, and their physical and evolutional relationship to asymmetric W UMa type binaries are discussed.

  • A meshfree formulation for the calculation of energy band structure is presented. The conventional meshfree shape function is modified to handle the periodicity of Bravais lattice, and applied to the calculation of real-space electronic-band structure. Numerical examples include the Kronig-Penney model potential and the empirical pseudopotentials of diamond and zinc-blonde semiconductors. Results demonstrate that the meshfree method be a promising one as a real-space technique for the calculations of diverse physical band structures.

  • Many computer programs are being developed to aid the design of physical models. These efforts highlight the importance of computer model of three dimensional object. In this paper a CAD application program is introduced which can be implemented to modeling some part that composed with 3 types of surface form ; free form surface, fillt surface, surface of revolution, and a geometry description language which can represent a shape efficiently is preseneted.

  • Dynamic wedge system has been introduced to modify the beam profile and to make homogeneous isodose curves in the mass of irregular shape. Before the clinical use of dynamic wedge, several factors such as wedge transmission factor, dose profile, percent depth dose, and wedge angle have to be measured quantitatively. Film dosimetry is used to evaluate these factors in this study. A comparison of the result of the dynamic wedge to physical wedge system is made. A positive result for the application of the dynamic wedge to clinic is derived even though there is a limitation in accuracy of the dosimetry system used. To measure all factors quantitatively, more accurate dosimetry systems are required.

  • We present high-resolution optical spectra of newly selected candidates of intermediate-mass black holes. The sample was selected based on the variability and spectral shape in X-ray. The spectra was taken with Magellan 6.5 m Clay Telescope and cover the rest-frame region 3500-10000A. The high spectral resolution (R~4000) of the spectrum allows us to estimate BH masses of the sources. Interestingly, the majority of the sample appears to have broad emission lines. Using this dataset, we will estimate the BH masses and Eddington ratio in order to understand their physical properties.

  • Rubber composites were prepared by precured CIIR pulverized at knead shear force in order to research the effects of the BR/PCP composites. The particle size of domain in BR/CIIR composites was decreased and homogeneously dispersed by the precured CIIR pulverized. However, it was difficult to use the product when the content is 40 phr and precured of 40%. BR/PCP composites have improved mechanical properies as compared that of the addition of simply cut chip composite.

  • The viscometric technique is used to study the effects of microstructure on the viscosity (viscosity vs. concentration or shear rate) of magnetic particle suspensions. In this characterization, measurement of suspension viscosity is used to obtain the dependence of viscous energy dissipation on microstructural state of dispersions. Microstructural shape effects which are related to particle orientation are then indirectly obtained. Empirical formulas from mean field theory and the Mooney equation, which are applicable at high concentration of magnetic particles, are used to relate viscosity to particle concentration. The validity and physical meaning of these equations are discussed.

  • This paper discusses the suitability of producing concrete with 100 % recycled aggregate to meet durability and strength requirements for different applications. Aggregate strength, gradation, absorption, specific gravity, shape and texture are some of the physical and mechanical characteristics that contribute to the strength and durability of concrete. In general, the quality of recycled aggregate depends on the loading and exposure conditions of the demolished structures. Therefore, the experimental program was focused on the evaluation of physical and mechanical properties of the recycled aggregate over a period of 6 months. In addition, concrete properties produced with fine and coarse recycled aggregate were evaluated. Several concrete mixes were prepared with 100 % recycled aggregates and the results were compared to that of a control mix. SEM was conducted to examine the microstructure of selected mixes. The results showed that concrete with acceptable strength and durability could be produced if high packing density is achieved.
