Recently, steel dampers are widely used as seismic reinforcement devices. Steel dampers have the advantage of being easy to manufacture and being able to absorb a lot of energy through stable hysteresis behavior. However, there is a possibility that the steel damper may be damaged due to fatigue caused by repeated seismic loads. In this study, the seismic performance of steel dampers and engineering plastic dampers with different physical characteristics were compared and analyzed. In addition, numerical analysis was performed on a hybrid damper that combines a steel damper and an engineering plastic damper. It is more effective to apply engineering plastic dampers to structures that experience significant displacement due to seismic loads. The behavior of hybrid dampers combining steel dampers and engineering plastic dampers is dominated by steel dampers. A hybrid damper in which an engineering plastic damper yields after a steel damper yields can effectively respond to various seismic loads and secure high ductility and excellent seismic performance.

Stable haptic interaction with virtual environments is essential not only for the safety of the user but also for improving the immersion of the user. If the coefficient of a virtual spring is increased, the system becomes unstable. Therefore, the coefficient of the virtual spring is limited. The haptic system with the high-frequency zero-order-hold (HF-ZOH) is proposed to enhance the stability margin of a virtual spring. In this paper, the relationship among the sampling period of HF-ZOH, the coefficient of the physical damper, and the maximum stable margin of the virtual spring is analyzed. The lager the coefficient of the physical damper is, the shorter the sampling period of the HF-ZOH is, the larger the stable region of the virtual spring becomes. If the ratio N is larger than 40, the stable region of the proposed method is about three times to eight times that of the previous method, according to the coefficient of the physical damper. Hence the method enables to improve the user's realism in virtual environments.

This paper presents hydraulic model which can capture the hysteric damping force behavior of ER damper. A flow mode rue ER damper is manufactured, and its field-dependent damping forces are measured. Newly proposed hydraulic model which derived from physical hydro-mechanical parameters of ER damper are conventional Bingham model are investigated to represent the field-dependent damping force characteristics of ER damper. After principal parameters of two models are estimated from the measured damping forces data, the force vs velocity hysteresis cycles are then reconstructed. The results show that the proposed hydraulic model can capture the hysteresis behavior of ER damper accurately.

Various types of damper are usually applied to reduce noise and vibration for mechanical systems. Especially, for washing machines, the free-friction stroke damper is installed. The behavior of the free-friction stroke damper has nonlinear characteristics such as hysteresis and viscoelastic properties because of its foam material. First of all, the dynamic experiments were carried out by using a MTS machine to find characteristics of the free-friction stroke damper. And the simulation model of the free-friction stroke damper and characteristics of a foam material were evaluated by using optimization technique. To make a good simulation model which can show the dynamic characteristics, it is important to understand the working mechanism of the damper. The Finite Element Method (FEM) technique can help us instinctively understand the damping phenomenon under operating conditions, because we can observe the condition of damper at every step in the simulation by using it. Also, by changing factors, we can comprehend the variation of characteristics of damper. So, in this paper, a study on the dynamic characteristics of free-friction stroke damper by FEM is focused on. Finally, the possibility which physical experiments can be replaced into simulations is shown.

In this study, active control magnetic actuator for reducing vibration of rotor system is performed. Identification, modeling, simulation, control system design, and evaluation of active magnetic damper system have been researched. Power amplifier modeling, connected magnetic actuator and augmented by system identification, is included to establish a magnetic damper simulation which provides close performance correspondence to the physical plant. A magnetic actuator, digital controller using DSP(Digital Signal Processor), and bipolar operational power supply/amplifiers are developed to show the effectiveness of reducing rotor vibration. Also the curve fitting procedure to obtain the transfer function of frequency dependent components is developed. Two kinds of test are executed as sliding and oil bearing. Results presented in this paper will provide a well-defined technical parameters in designing magnetic damper system for the proposed rotor.

In this paper, the magic formula model was applied for a friction damper in a drum-type washing machine. To describe characteristics of the hysteretic damping force, Physical tests were first carried out to get experimental results using an MTS machine. Then, parameters for the magic formula model were determined from the experimental curves. The ADAMS and MATLAB programs were used for the multibody modeling of the damper and process for parameter identification. The model of drum-type washing machine was applied for a dynamic model of friction damper, in which the accuracy of the proposed damper model was verified.
Magnetorheological (MR) damper is a type of controllable device widely used in vibration mitigation. This device is highly nonlinear, and exhibits strongly hysteretic behavior that is dependent on both the motion imposed on the device and the strength of the surrounding electromagnetic field. An accurate model for understanding and predicting the nonlinear damping force of the MR damper is crucial for its control applications. The MR damper models are often identified off-line by conducting regression analysis using data collected under constant voltage. In this study, a MR damper model is integrated with a model for the power supply unit (PSU) to consider the dynamic behavior of the PSU, and then a real-time nonlinear model updating technique is proposed to accurately identify this integrated MR damper model with the efficiency that cannot be offered by off-line methods. The unscented Kalman filter is implemented as the updating algorithm on a cyber-physical model updating platform. Using this platform, the experimental study is conducted to identify MR damper models in real-time, under in-service conditions with time-varying current levels. For comparison purposes, both off-line and real-time updating methods are applied in the experimental study. The results demonstrate that all the updated models can provide good identification accuracy, but the error comparison shows the real-time updated models yield smaller relative errors than the off-line updated model. In addition, the real-time state estimates obtained during the model updating can be used as feedback for potential nonlinear control design for MR dampers.

In the case of a concrete structure, vibration problems occur under various conditions because of its low damping performance. To solve this problem, a study on the high damping performance of the polymer concrete with hybrid damper has recently been increased. Since water is not used in polymer concrete, the curing time is short. Also, the physical properties and dynamic properties of polymer concrete are quite excellent. So polymer concrete is widely expected to be used for structural materials. The hybrid damper is the structural system that consists of steel balls and viscous fluid inside the pipe which is embedded in polymer concrete. It can reduce the structural vibrations through the energy dissipation mechanism of viscous fluid and steel balls. In this study, the physical and dynamic properties of polymer concrete with hybrid damper were compared with ordinary concrete. As a result, the elasticity coefficient and the strength of the polymer concrete with hybrid damper were so much excellent. In particular, the tensile strength was 6.5 to 10 times higher than ordinary concrete. The frequency response function and damping ratio were also compared. As a result, the dynamic Stiffness of the polymer concrete was 25% greater than that of ordinary concrete. The damping ratio of the polymer concrete was approximately 3 times higher than that of ordinary concrete. Although the dynamic stiffness of the hybrid damper showed similar tendency, the damping ratio was 3.5 times higher than that of ordinary concrete. Therefore, the polymer concrete with hybrid damper was superior to ordinary concrete.

The Addiction problems have been became a social problem; the social efforts continue to solve these problems. One of those efforts, we need to establish a mathematical modeling for an addictive model to perform analysis of behavior by using this modeling. We need to process the research that can be judged before and after addictive status with result of the behavior analysis. We have to process an observation of transition from before to after addictive status. According to those necessary, this paper proposed the physical exercise model that is composed by novel second order system, which consisted of Spring-Damper-Mass system with equivalence in order to evolve an addictive equation for physical exercise. This paper also is analyzed by the behaviors for those the addictive equation of physical exercise.

The pulverized coal combustion behavior in the utility boiler is very complex since so many physical and chemical processes happen in it, simultaneously. The mixing of pulverized coal with combustion air plays an important role in achieving the efficient combustion and stable boiler operation. The distribution of combustion air supplied to the furnace through the windbox damper system has not been clearly known since the individual measurements of air flow for each air nozzle were not possible, yet. The present study describes the CFD modelling of windbox damper system and aims to obtain the air flow rates and pressure loss coefficients across the present five damper systems, respectively. The one dimensional flow network model has been also established to get air flow distributions across the windbox damper, and applied to the actual plant operation condition. Compared with the designed air flow distribution, the modelled one gives a reasonable agreement. For the actual plant operation, the predicted air flow distribution at each air nozzle is differed with the designed data and strongly affected by the individual opening angle.
