  • The flow characteristics in a bifurcated duct are investigated experimentally. Physical properties such as mean velocity vectors, mean vorticity and total pressure distributions are obtained for three different Reynolds numbers(578, 620, 688) using PIV measurements and CFD analysis. Also, dividing duct $90^{\circ}$ were selected for study. The results of this study would be useful to the engineer in designing the flow systems for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and wastewater purification plants.

  • Numerical simulation is conducted to clarify the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of HVAC(Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning) for Mugunghwa passenger car. The HVAC system is installed under the floor of carbody. This new HVAC system has a lot of merits in respect of the center of gravity of carbody, flow induced noise and reduction of condensation water etc. The standard k-epsilon turbulent model and SIMPLEC algorithm based on finite volume method are used to solve the physical HVAC model. To assure convergence, QUICK scheme for momentum equation and the first order upwind scheme for turbulent equations are used. From the results of simulation, the temperature and velocity magnitude are also distributed uniformly in the interior of car.

  • Drying process in the cylindrical thin film layer of sludge with the thickness less than a few millimeters has been investigated. Thin film drying is specially designed and used to dry the viscous materials like sewage sludge. The thin film layer of sludge is dried on the metallic cylindrical surface through which thermal energy is supplied to the layer during drying. The wall temperature is assumed to be constant during drying in the present study for the simplification. In order to solve the equations, the mass transfer rate on the drying surface should be determined. The mass flux of evaporated water vapor on the surface is estimated with the formulation given in the literature. The effect of some physical parameters on drying has been examined to figure out the drying characteristics of the sludge layer.

목재판상류 변형에 관한 연구 (A Study on Warping of Panel Products)

  • Modern furniture is mostly made of panel products such as a glue-up panel, a particle board and a medium density fiberboard(MDF). Warping is a major defect of these panel products resulting in degrading final products. In this study the factors related to the warping of a glue-up panel and MDF were investigated by comparing the physical properties of warped specimens with those of the unwarped. The differences between the moisture contents measured on the both surfaces of specimens were found to mainly influence the warping of glue-up panel specimens whether conditioned or not. The average oven-dry density of warped glue-up panel specimens was definitely higher than that of the unwarped at l% significance level. For MDF the influencing factor on warping has not been revealed yet, however it was found that the conditioning reduced the number of warped specimens.

The HVAC system is installed under the roof of carbody. In the lay-out of HVAC system, air duct must be installed to supply air to 1st and 2nd floor respectively. The standard k-epsilon turbulent models and SIMPLEC algorithm based on finite volume method are used to solve the physical HVAC model. To assure convergence, QUICK scheme for momentum equation and the first order upwind scheme for turbulent equations are used. From the results of simulation, the temperature and velocity magnitude are also distributed uniformly in the interior of passenger car.

기능성 골판지 포장재 KS규격표준화연구 (A Study on the KS standardization of functional corrugated fibreboard)

  • In order to keep a characteristic corrugated fibreboard of fruits and flowers, temperature and humidity change of corrugated fibreboard are analyzed. According to relative humidity rises at fixed temperature, bursting strength of corrugated fibreboard was fallen and double wall corrugated fibreboard appeared greatly the bursting strength decline rate than double faced corrugated fibreboard and edgewise compressive strength of paper more than humidity 80% in rapidly fall. A column crush test of paper became decrease in the high temperature and ordinary temperature strength did over humidity 70% rapidly fallen and strength decrease happened by low temperature 80% slowly fallen and later rapidly. According to ISO standard temperature humidity conditioning (23$\pm$2 , 50$\pm$2%) change, pulp composition difference as to the ring crush strength of a physical strength and generally compare to KS standard increased 5∼8% for the compressive strength, and wet strength reagent was increased 4% inside and out.

시추 안정액 배합설계에 따른 공벽 붕괴방지 효과에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Effect of Drilling Fluid with Different Mix Designs for Bore Hole Collapse Prevention)

  • 본 논문에서는 지반 시추시 공벽붕괴 방지를 위해 적용되는 시추 안정액(drilling fluid)의 다양한 배합설계에 따른 공벽붕괴 방지 효과에 대한 실험적 연구 결과를 다루었다. 이를 위해 먼저 벤토나이트 계열 안정액의 공벽 붕괴 방지 메카니즘을 검토하였으며 아울러 벤토나이트계 안정액의 배합(conditioning)에 따른 안정액의 성능지표 변화에 대한 실험결과를 간략히 기술하였다. 또한 지반시추(굴착) 및 안정액 투입을 간략히 모사하는 토조 장치를 구축하여 세립분이 20% 포함된 화강풍화토 및 모래지반을 대상으로 다양한 배합으로 조성된 벤토나이트계 안정액에 대한 실험을 수행하고 안정액 투입량, 수평 침투범위, 굴착가능 깊이 등을 측정하여 공벽붕괴 방지 효과를 고찰하였다. 그 결과 벤토나이트에 폴리머를 추가할 경우 안정액 투입량 및 수평 침투범위가 굴착가능 깊이가 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며 폴리머의 공벽유지 기능 향상 정도는 모래층보다 화강풍화토 지반에서 보다 뚜렷하게 발휘되는 것으로 검토되었다. 본 논문에서는 도출된 연구결과가 실무적 차원에서 지니는 의미에 대한 내용을 기술하였다.

건축물 축열성능 향상을 위한 Octadecane/xGnP SSPCM 제조 및 열적성능 분석 (Preparation and Thermal Properties of Octadecane/xGnP Shape-Stabilized Phase Change Materials to Improve the Heat Storage Performance of Buildings)

  • In this study, a shape-stabilized phase change material (SSPCM) was prepared by octadecane and exfoliated graphite nanoplate (xGnP) in a vacuum, to improve thermal storage performance. The octadecane as an organic phase change material (PCM) is very stable against phase separation of PCM, and has the proper temperature range for thermal comfort in the building; and the xGnP is a porous carbon nano-material. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transformation infrared spectrophotometer (FT-IR) were used to confirm the chemical and physical stability of the Ocatadecane/xGnP SSPCM. In addition, thermal properties were determined by Deferential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The specific heat of Octadecane/xGnP SSPCM was $14.1J/g{\cdot}K$ at $31.3^{\circ}C$. The melting temperature ranges of melting and freezing were found to be $26{\sim}35^{\circ}C$ and $26{\sim}19^{\circ}C$, respectively. At this time, the latent heats of melting and freezing were 110.9 J/g and 104.5 J/g, respectively. The Octadecane was impregnated into xGnP by as much as about 56.0% of the Octadecane/xGnP SSPCM's mass fraction.

천연제올라이트를 이용한 메탄 하이드레이트 생성에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Methane Hydrate Formation Using Natural Zeolite)

  • Gas hydrate is formed by physical binding between water molecule and gas such as methane, ethane, propane, or carbon dioxide, etc., which is captured in the cavities of water molecule under the specific temperature and pressure. $1\;m^3$ hydrate of pure methane can be decomposed to the methane gas of $172\;m^3$ and water of $0.8\;m^3$ at standard condition. If this characteristic of hydrate is reversely utilized, natural gas is fixed into water in the form of hydrate solid. Therefore, the hydrate is considered to be a great way to transport and store of natural gas in large quantity. Especially the transportation cost is known to be 18~25% less than the liquefied transportation. However, when methane gas hydrate is artificially formed, its reaction time may be too long and the gas consumption in water becomes relatively low, because the reaction rate between water and gas is low. Therefore, for the practical purpose in the application, the present investigation focuses on the rapid production of hydrates and the increment of the amount of captured gas by adding zeolite into pure water. The results show that when the zeolite of 0.01 wt% was added to distilled water, the amount of captured gas during the formation of methane hydrate was about 4.5 times higher than that in distilled water, and the methane hydrate formation time decreased at the same subcooling temperature.

천장의 기하학적 형태에 따른 광선반 성능평가 시뮬레이션 연구 (Simulation Study on the Performance Evaluation of Light-shelf According to Geometric Shape of Ceiling)

  • Light-shelf is one of the most efficient natural lighting systems due to the improved function of the inflow level of the outdoor natural light. However, the existing research on the light shelf limits to the rectangular parallelepiped space, so do not provide sufficient data for various shapes of spaces. Thus, this study aims at deriving proper plan and relationship of the light shelf through its performance assessment depending on the indoor space shapes and utilizing them as basic data of light shelf design. The conclusions are as follows : 1) for 6m space depth, standard intensity of illumination satisfaction depth has shown 8.3%~26.3% improvement through the adjustment of the angle and width when installing light shelf compared to no light shelf installation; 2) $-30^{\circ}$, $-20^{\circ}$ and $-10^{\circ}$ light shelves set by this study play only as a blind regardless of the shape of ceiling on the summer solstice, and it is unsuitable; and 3) this study has derived proper plan of light shelf upon space shapes based on energy reduction and indoor evenness. The study results provide expanded data of the performance assessment of the light shelves according to the different space shapes and light shelf factors, which serves as a basis of the light shelves designing.
