The home-based physical therapy program was then analyzed. Results: The role and concept of home-based physical therapy was not clearly established. There were few home-based physical therapy programs in the community. The manpower of home-based physical therapists in the home-visiting health care program was very low. The role between home-visiting nurses (caregivers) and home-based physical therapists was mixed. Research and promotion regarding home-based physical therapy was poor. Conclusion: To establish a system of legal, long-term care insurance, we must increase the manpower of home-based physical therapists and the amount of research pertaining to the demand for home-based physical therapy.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level and intensity of emotional labor of physical therapists and occupational therapists, and to identify the factors affecting them. Cross-sectional study was conducted on physical therapists and occupational therapists across the country using self-populated questionnaire. A total of 2,000 questionnaires were distributed to retrieve 1,500 questionnaires(75%), of which 1,374 questionnaires(68.7%) were finally analyzed, excluding 126 that answered duplicates or were missing answers. Multi-linear regression was performed to identify factors on the strength of emotional labor. According to the analysis results, high-risk groups in the areas under 'Emotional demand and regulation' and 'Overload and conflict in customer service' and 'Emotional disharmony and hurt' were 29.4%, 19.0% and 22.0% respectively, especially in 'Emotional demand and regulation', 'Overload and conflict in customer service', 'Emotional disharmony and hurt' for women working days, and 49% of daily work hours. Accordingly, we will be able to regularly screen physical therapists and occupational therapists for dangerous groups, and manage the intensity of emotional labor through the creation of a therapist's working environment, such as limiting overtime hours and assigning appropriate number of patients. Through this study, the grounds and methods for mitigating the negative effects of emotional labor and mediating emotional labor should be provided.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between subjective quality of life and job stress with regard to general characteristics and health characteristics of physical therapists (PTs) and occupational therapists (OTs). Methods: The study involved administering questionnaires to 93 PTs and OTs who worked in urban medical institutions between November 2009 and October 2009. A questionnaire (KvSBQOL) developed by Dunbar and colleagues and translated into Korean version by Yoon et al was used for measuring subjective quality of life. A questionnaire developed by Kim was used for measuring job stress. Results: Among PTs and OTs, the mean quality of life score was 3.10 points and the mean level of job stress was 3.42. Female PTs and OTs had significantly greater levels of job stress. Those PTs and OTs in the 'Lowest pay' group and in the 'Associated Degree' group reported the lowest quality of life. Those in the 'Very healthy' group of PTs and OTs had significantly lower job stress than the other groups. The group with the highest job stress had the lowest quality of life. A limitation of this study was that all data was self-reported and subject to associated bias. Conclusion: To prevent loss of business services by PTs and OTs, it is important to know how job stress affects quality of life. Our findings suggest that a reduction in job stress can improve quality of life among PTs and OTs.

  • PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to describe and analyze the components of physical therapy interventions to enhance postural control and mobility in children with spastic diplegia. METHODS: Thirsty-eight physical therapists working in rehabilitation settings volunteered to record the components of physical therapy interventions used during 894 treatment sessions for 179 children with spastic diplegia presenting with difficulties in postural control and mobility. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the general characteristics of the therapists, the patients, and the frequency of the interventions. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and chi-square test were used to describe the components of the interventions and the goals of treatment. RESULTS: In clinical practice, physical therapists primarily used methods including "Hands-on: facilitation" (n=1990, 36.47%) and "Hands-off: practice" (n=1355, 24.83 %). Only 13.96% (n=762) of the interventions allowed patients to be independent or active outside of the treatment sessions. Interventions reflecting the therapeutic aims were performed for sitting (17.53%), standing (18.25%), and walking (27.39%). CONCLUSION: Physical therapists mostly used "therapistled" interventions to treat impaired postural control and mobility in children with spastic diplegia. Interventions to facilitate independent activity or practice outside the treatment sessions are infrequently used. These types of interventions were used regardless of the aims of treatment.

  • To this is the concept and changes of physical treatment that intervenes the understanding and restoring cerebral infantile paralysis in the medical welfare of the social well-being areas: Cerebral palsy, originated by Littel in 1862 and reported as "The cerebral palsies" by William and Osler, come to have its name and meaning. The early stage of intervention generally accepted by the circle of physical treatment in the medical profession was introduced by Sax in 1964. In Sax' theory, cerebral palsy is defined as "the stumbling block in the bodily exercises and postures, causing by the intercurrent disease or physical, mental defect." As we have seen it is desirable that the abovementioned limited steps be removed and allow physical therapists to examine and to treat cerebral palsies. For this, first educational system should make its way to a substantial improvement and congenital abnormal Test should be rapidly expanding to great proportions the whole nation, not part of the low-income group. Physical therapists, cerebral palsies and their parents must combine to make cerebral palsies' welfare the crowning well being state. Physical therapists, cerebral palsies and their parents, forming of trinity, should combine to make cerebral palsies' welfare the Super-Welfare State existence.
