  • This study analyzes the characteristics of two different kinds of squat exercise through physical experiments and a computer simulation, i.e. one with a free weight and the other with a Smith machine are studied. This study also proposes a new design for the Smith machine, which has both the advantages of each type based on the results of the analysis. The muscle force and level of stimulation of the lower extremities during squatting were calculated by running an inverse dynamics analysis program on a musculoskeletal model together with the measured motion data. The calculated results were verified by comparing with the measured EMG data. The analysis showed that squatting using free weight is more effective than squatting using the Smith machine. Meanwhile, in order to design an improved Smith machine, which is the final goal of this study, the trajectory of the barbell of the subjects during free weight squatting was measured on the sagittal plane. The measurement showed that the average slope of the trajectory of the barbell is tilted backward by $10.7^{\circ}$. Based on this measurement, this study proposes a tilted design for an improved Smith machine.

  • Recently, an excavated soil-recycling machine has been receiving considerable attentions. The mobile type excavated soil-recycling machine is able to improve the soils by adding the additives such as slaked lime and cement at the construction site. However, not only the mechanical factors such as paddle inclination angle and pitch of the paddle but also the physical properties of the excavated soils affect the mixing performance of the excavated soils and additives. In this sense, experimental investigations are uneconomical and ineffective. This paper concerns with the numerical simulator to analyze the mixing behavior of excavated soils and additives in the soil-recycling machine with dual shafts in order to assist the economical and effective design of the optimum soil-recycling machine. By using the simulator, several simulations were carried out, and the effects of some mechanical parameters such as the paddle inclination angle and pitch of the paddle on the mixing performance were made clear.

  • A virtual machine is a conceptual computer with a logical system configuration, made of software unlike physical systems made of hardware. Virtual machine technology for embedded systems is a requisite software technology for download solutions such as mobile devices, digital TVs, etc. At present, a research of virtual machines for embedded systems named EVM(Embedded Virtual Machine) is in progress. As a part of the research, we define the EFF(Executable File Format) as a file format for embedded systems. We also prove completeness of EFF by structurally mapping class file widely used to EFF.

  • There have been a lot of studies in the past for the method of predicting the failure of a machine, and recently, a lot of researches and applications have been generated to diagnose the physical condition of the machine and the parts and to calculate the remaining life through various methods. Survival models are also used to predict plant failures based on past anomaly cycles. In particular, special machine that reflect the fluid flow and process characteristics of chemical plants are connected to hundreds or thousands of sensors, so there are not many factors that need to be considered, such as process and material data as well as application of derivative variables. In this paper, the data were preprocessed through time series anomaly detection based on unsupervised learning to predict the abnormalities of these special machine. Next, clustering results reflecting clustering-based data characteristics were applied to produce additional variables, and a learning data set was created based on the history of past facility abnormalities. Finally, the prediction methodology based on the supervised learning algorithm was applied, and the model update was confirmed to improve the accuracy of the prediction of facility failure. Through this, it is expected to improve the efficiency of facility operation by flexibly replacing the maintenance time and parts supply and demand by predicting abnormalities of machine and extracting key factors.

  • In order to provide a safe free-weight-training environment to people without workout trainers, we suggest a smart bench press machine with an automatic weight control system sensitive to user tiredness. Physical weight plates on the machine are replaced with a hydraulic cylinder as a press load and the cylinder knob is coupled with a step motor to change its tensile force automatically in-between lifting exercises. Three subjects participated to verify the usability of the smart bench press machine. They were asked to lift a 6-RM press load 10 times with 3 different lifting conditions: 1) no assistance, 2) a human assistance, and 3) the automatic weight control. All subjects were not able to complete the 10 sets without assistance due to tiredness, but they finished the full sets under the two assistive conditions. Average lifting speeds under the automatic weight control condition showed the most consistent level. Normalized quasi-tension data based on surface electromyogram signals of both Pectoralis Majors revealed that the subjects maintained the target muscle activation level above 50% but not more than 80% throughout the 10 sets. Therefore, the smart bench press machine is expected to both keep pace with the lifting exercise and reduce risk of injuries due to excessive muscle tensions.

  • Recently virtualization has been one of the most popular research topics in system software area. While there already exist many commercial virtualization products for general-purpose computer system, little efforts are made to virtualize embedded system. In this paper, we design and implement a virtual machine monitor which divides each physical hardware resource of a embedded system into logical ones and reorganizes them into many virtual machines, which result in running several real-time operating systems concurrently on a single embedded system. We measure various performance metrics of the virtual machine monitor developed on a real embedded system. The results of the study show that our virtual machine monitor has enough potentiality of its application to real-world embedded systems.

  • Kimbugak is one of Korea's traditional snacks made of laver. This study was conducted to investigate the physical drying and frying characteristics of kimbugaks made by a pasting & garnishing machine. The drying and frying characteristics should be analyzed to develop a continuous operation system for manufacturing kimbugak because kimbugak has a high moisture content after pasting process. Materials for pasting and garnishing on laver were rice gruel and sesame. The aluminum shelf with square hole was selected as a drying shelf. The recommended size of the square hole type was $1.5mm{\times}1.5mm$ because characteristics of deformation and easy separation from the shelf were excellent at the hole size. The drying time of 2 hours was also recommended with the drying temperature of $70^{\circ}C$ based on the test results such as dried condition (good), moisture conten t (3.7%), deformation (12.1 mm), and shrinkage rate (19.8%). As the frying conditions for dried kimbugaks, recommended oil temperature and frying time were $170^{\circ}C$, 15 seconds, respectively when corn oil was used. In the case of frying for undried kimbugaks, recommended oil temperature and frying time were $210^{\circ}C$, 2 - 3 minutes, respectively for improvement of work efficiency.

  • The location selection of virtual machines in distributed cloud is difficult because of the physical resource distribution, allocation of multi-dimensional resources, and resource unit cost. In this study, we propose a multi-object virtual machine location selection algorithm (MOVMLSA) based on group information, doubly linked list structure and genetic algorithm. On the basis of the collaboration of multi-dimensional resources, a fitness function is designed using fuzzy logic control parameters, which can be used to optimize search space solutions. In the location selection process, an orderly information code based on group and resource information can be generated by adopting the memory mechanism of biological immune systems. This approach, along with the dominant elite strategy, enables the updating of the population. The tournament selection method is used to optimize the operator mechanisms of the single-point crossover and X-point mutation during the population selection. Such a method can be used to obtain an optimal solution for the rapid location selection of virtual machines. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is effective in reducing the number of used physical machines and in improving the resource utilization of physical machines. The algorithm improves the utilization degree of multi-dimensional resource synergy and reduces the comprehensive unit cost of resources.

  • In this experimental study, noise level measurements were conducted on physical LBB(Linear Ball Bush) samples in a semi-anechoic chamber. Evaluation of the measured data demonstrates that LBB's noise level is proportional to the logarithmic of its speed multiplied by the ball diameter. Furthermore details of implementations and process for measuring noise level and operating speed of LBB are also presented.
