  • Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a targeted-tumor treatment system using a photosensitizer, light and oxygen to treat malignant tumor. We have investigated the cytotoxicity of 4 types of phthalocyanine derivative (silver phthalocyanine, iron (III) phthalocyanine, copper (II) phthalocyanine, nickel (II) phthalocyanine) against lung and breast cancers based on photodynamic therapy. As a result, phthalocyanine derivatives indicated a higher anticancer activity on a breast cancer cell line. Among the tested phthalocyanines, silver phthalocyanine (AgPc) showed a lower cytotoxicity against a normal cell line. In addition AgPc gave a good color characteristic when it is solubilized in water. Finally AgPc was selected as a potential antitumor agent for breast cancer.

  • In this work, we report the effect on the volatole organic compounds(VOCs) sensing properties of Copper phthalocyanine(CoPc) and Dilithium phthalocyanine(DiLiPc) thin films onto alumina substrates. Use evaporation method and the spin-coated method for sensing device. The materials of metallophthalocyanine macrocyclic compound solutions blended with N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4"-diamine and/or Poly[2-methoxy-5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] solutions. The influence of the blended in with metallophthalocyanine macrocyclic compounds on the resistance have been measured and analyzed in five different volatole organic compounds. The following results were obtained: The AFM 3D image of thin films deposited on metallophthalocyanine macrocyclic compound shows that the surfaces roughness were about CuPc 4.1~14.3 nm(7.5~8.1%), DiLiPc 10.3~22.2 nm(7.9~11.5%). The resistances decreases upon increasing the concentration of vapor organic compounds to CuPc and DiLiPc thin films. That thin films blended Copper phthalocyanine(CoPc) and Dilithium phthalocyanine(DiLiPc) with N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4"-diamine and/or Poly[2-methoxy--5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene]. The resistances of blended thin films with N,N'-diphenyl-N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4"-diamine and/or Poly[2-methoxy--5-(2'-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] decreases upon increasing the concentration of volatole organic compounds(VOCs) on DiLiPc than CuPc compound thin films.

  • Phthalocyanine, a water soluble porphyrin derivative and dye, is known to inhibit the mutagenic and carcinogenic actions of compounds having polycyclic structures, e.g. heterocyclic amines. There is evidence that this adsorbent effect shows by a complex formation between the porphyrin-like structure of phthalocyanine and the planar molecular surfaces of theses compounds. That phthalocyanine can form an insoluble material when mixed with chitosan, a polyglucosamine, and that the solid chitosan-phthalocyanine, named Eco-Blue, thus prepared can efficiently adsorb polycyclic mutagenic compounds. The adsorption was experimented by UV/VIS spectrometry. The adsorbent effects of mutagens and carcinogens was identified by Gas chromatography (GC) and Ames Test. The adsorbed polycyclic mutagens were elutable with buffer, but only to small extents. Chitosan-phthalocyanine may be expected to be useful as an adsorbent against polycyclic mutagens and carcinogens.

  • As a result of adsorbing phthalocyanine (metal free, ${\alpha}\;and\;{\beta}$-Cu) on zinc oxide in aqueous solution using nonionic surfactant, all of the added dye was adsorbed and Na salt of sulfonated phthalocyanine showed the Langmuir monolayer adsorption. To analyze the effect of adsorption on zinc oxide, photovoltage was measured using surface photovoltmeter. The high photovoltaic effect was observed at intrinsic wavelength of zinc oxide and wavelength of adsorbed phthalocyanine dye. Metal free phthalocyanine, ${\alpha}$-copper phthalocyanine and ${\beta}$-copper phthalocyanine showed the highest photovoltaic effect when the percentage of coverage (${\theta}_{BET}$) for zinc oxide is about 80, while sulfonated phthalocyanine showed the highest photovoltaic effect when the percentage of coverage for zinc oxide is about 30.

  • Using hi plasma and Fe-Phthalocyanine, carbon nanofibers have been synthesized a low temperature. The carbon nanofibers had about In nm diameter and up to $10{\mu}m$ length. These were grown in random orientation. There are two shapes in the CNFs, screw and straight line shapes. Furthermore, we found the selective growth of nanofibers on the scratched substrates.

  • The UV absorption spectra of the copper phthalocyanine and its azo derivatives in pyridine have been examined on the basis of symmetry operation, ligand field theory and molecular orbital consideration. The above treatment was also employed to determine the structure of the synthesized complexes.

  • The enzyme-like catalytic functions of metal complex phthalocyanine derivatives those containing carboxylic acid groups could be applied as odor-removing systems and antibacterial systems. Pyromellitic dianhydride and 4-nitrophthalimide were used as starting material for synthesizing dinitro-tetracarboxylic acid iron phthalocyanine(compound 1). Then diamino-tetracarboxylic phthalocyanine(compound 2) was obtained by reduction of compound 1. For the formation of covalent bond with cellulose fiber, cyanuric chloride was introduced to the amino group of compound 2 by condensation reaction compound 3. The exhaustion method was employed for adsorbing compound 3 on cotton fiber. K/S values of each fabrics were measured by a CCM system and deodorizing rates were tested by a detector tube method for ammonia gas. K/S values of treated cotton fiber with compound 3 were arranged from 2.1 to 4.2 at $90^{\circ}C$ of exhaustion temperature. Deodorizing rates provided result of 81%, 84%, 88%, 91%, by passing time of 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min, respectively.

  • The electrical properties of various metal phthalocyanine(MPc) thin film sensors were tested in the presence of $NO_x$ gas. Among the Phthalocyanine(Pc) thin films, lead phthalocyanine(PbPc) thin film showed the best results nd its sensitivity was over 80% at 5ppm of $NO_x$ gas. Optimal operating conditions including response time and cyclic treatment of $NO_x$ were tested and discussed.

  • Using Ar plasama and Fe-phthalocyanine, carbon nanofibers have been synthesized at a low temperature. Fe-phthalocyanine was used as a source material for this process. The carbon nanofibers were grown in random orientation with a diameter of about 100 nm and length up to 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ on Si substrate. The synthesized carbon nanofibers exhibited excellent field emission characteristics. Protrusions with a nanometer size are observed at an angle of 60$^{\circ}$with respect to the nanofiber axis. Furthermore, we found the selective growth of nanofibers on a scratched substrates.
