In this paper, a remote monitoring system of wind-photovoltaic hybrid generation system using mobile phone and internet has been developed. Many kinds of data can be acquired, analyzed and saved automatically by this system. The hybrid system is composed of 1[kW] PV with DC/DC converter, battery banks and 5[kW] wind power system with power inductor and AC/DC converter. In addition, wind monitoring sensors, voltage and current meters, current transformers and potential transformers are used as accessory instruments. All of these signals are fed into DAQ (Data Acquisition) board after converting the data which have been processed by many types of converters, dividing circuits and signal conditioning circuits. These data can not only be displayed on a computer, transmitted using the server program to remote computer and saved on a computer as a file day by day but also be sent as a CDMA message. The monitored-data can be downloaded, analyzed and saved from server program in real-time via mobile phone or internet at a remote place. All of the programs were designed with LabVIEW software.
In remote islands, due to expense of existing generation systems, installation of photovoltaic cells (PVs) and wind turbines has a chance of reducing generation costs. However, in island power systems, even short-term power fluctuations change the frequency of grids because of their small inertia constant. In order to compensate power fluctuations, the authors proposed the power consumption control of pumps which send water to tanks. The power control doesn’t affect water users’ convenience as long as tanks hold water. Based on experimental characteristics of a pump system, this paper shows methods to determine reference power consumption of the system with compensation for short-term PV fluctuations while satisfying water demand. One method uses a PI controller and the other method calculates reference power consumption from water flow reference. Simulations with a PV and a pump system are carried out to find optimum parameters and to compare the methods. Results show that both PI control method and water flow calculation method are useful for satisfying the water demand constraint. The water demand constraint has a little impact to suppression of the short-term power fluctuation in this condition.

The micro grid considered in this paper consists of a diesel generator, a photovoltaic array, a wind turbine, a fuel cell, and a energy storage system. This paper explains and simulates the micro grid components in terms of accuracy and efficiency of having a system model based on the costs of fuel as well as operation and maintenance. For operational efficiency, the objective function in a diesel generator consists of the fuel cost function similar to the cost functions used for the conventional fossil-fuel generating plants. The wind turbine generator is modeled by the characteristics of variable output. The optimization is aimed at minimizing the cost function of the system while constraining it to meet the customer demand and safety of micro grid. The operating cost in fuel-cell system includes the fuel costs and the efficiency for fuel to generate electric power. To develop the overall system model gives a possibility to minimize of the total cost of micro grid. The application of optimal operation can save the interruption costs as well as the operating costs, and improve reliability index in micro grid.

We present the development of the digital fuzzy controller for maximum power regulation. A hybrid system that comprises wind and photovoltaic generation subsystems, and battery bank is developed in this paper. We use Takaki-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model to deal with the power regulation problem, since each power generator has complex nonlinear terms. The problem for regulation control can be simplified into a stabilization one. Also, in order to utilize the advanced digital device, we perform the intelligent digital redesign method. Finally, the performance of the proposed controller is extensively assessed through computer simulation.

This paper relates to a study on the economic of electrical storage device for supplying power in sunless days, in the stand alone PV/Wind hybrid system, which it is applied to separate houses. In a photovoltaic/wind hybrid power system used in a separate house, when only the battery is used in sunless days, the capacity of the battery is become larger. For example, as in recent days, if cloudy days are frequent due to anomaly climate, it is difficult to supply power stably by only the battery based upon pre-estimated sunless days. Accordingly, in order to supply stably power of new renewable energy such as solar to any separate houses, it is preferable to reduce the capacity of battery by decreasing the number of sunless days when estimating the capacity of battery and to drive the small generator for compensation of the power shortage.

There were telecommunication noise and malfunctions of the electronic devices occurred over a wide area due to the high harmonic voltage and/or current levels of the Back-to-back converter in the DFIG wind power system even though the magnitude of all harmonics is within the international standards. The triangular carrier signals of the PWM used in the power converter system is related to the telecommunication noise because they are in the range of audible frequencies and amplified by a variety of the standing waves that were excited by harmonic voltage sources in the weak grid system such as a long distance distribution transmission lines. This paper describes the characteristics of the harmonics in the wind turbine-generator, numerical analysis and simulation of the harmonics resonance phenomena in the distribution lines as well as measuring induced voltage of the telecommunication lines in parallel with power lines in order to verify the root cause of the telecommunication noise. These noise problems can occur in a wind turbine power system with a non-linear converter at any time, as well as photovoltaic power system. So, the preliminary review of suitable filter devices and switching frequencies of the PWM have to be required by considering the stability of the controller at the design stage but as part of the measures the effect of the telecommunication cable shields was analyzed by comparing the measured data between multi-conductor with/without shields so as to attenuate the sources of the harmonics voltage induced into the telecommunication lines and to apply the most cost-effective measures in the field.

When a building is planned and designed, the design should be able to minimize the cost during the whole life cycle of the building. This study has begun to analyze LCC about the alternative design which is applicable to renewable energy facility construction. It is reviewed domestic and foreign papers about the trend of LCC technology and it is determined the analytical method to analyze the LCC of renewable energy. Regarding the review of alternatives, it is chosen the three alternatives which are able to designed combing the renewable energy facilities and it is performed the LCC analysis about each alternative. Alternative 1 is Photovoltaic + Solar Thermal + Photovoltaic /Wind Power, Alternative 2 is Geothermal + Photovoltaic, and Alternative 3 is Photovoltaic + Solar Thermal. The LCC analysis is present value method, its analytical period is 40 years and it is applied 3.2% of real discount rate. As a result, it is proved that Alternative 1 and Alternative 3 are not able to collectible the early investment cost during the analytical period and Alternative 2 is analyzed that its pay-back period of early investment cost is about 31 years. As the final outcome of this study on case analysis, it is more advantageous to use the combination of Geothermal and Photovoltaic energy than to use the other combination in LCC aspect.
Diesel fuel is expensive because transportation to remote areas adds extra cost, and it causes air pollution by engine exhaust. Providing a feasible economical and environmental solution to diesel generators is important. A hybrid system of renewable plants and diesel generators can benefit islands or other isolated communities and increase fuel savings. Renewable energy is, however, a natural source that produces a fluctuating power output. In this paper, hybrid power system of the marado lighthouse is proposed to supply stable power in the stand-alone hybrid power system. The proposed hybrid power system consists of the diesel generator, wind turbine, photovoltaic, fuel cell, and battery bank. To decrease the carbon emissions and find the optimization, the cost analysis of hybrid system is simulated using HOMER program and the optimized hybrid power system is designed.

Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Home Centralized Photovoltaic (HCPV) systems can address various energy storage issues and enhance demand response programs. Renewable energy, such as solar energy and wind turbines, address the energy gap. However, no energy management system is currently available to regulate the uncertainty of renewable energy sources, electric vehicles, and appliance consumption within a smart microgrid. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, electric vehicles, and Micro-Grid (MG) storage on maximum solar radiation hours. Several Deep Learning (DL) algorithms were applied to account for the uncertainty. Moreover, a Reinforcement Learning HCPV (RL-HCPV) algorithm was created for efficient real-time energy scheduling decisions. The proposed algorithm managed the energy demand between PV solar energy generation and vehicle energy storage. RL-HCPV was modeled according to several constraints to meet household electricity demands in sunny and cloudy weather. Simulations demonstrated how the proposed RL-HCPV system could efficiently handle the demand response and how V2H can help to smooth the appliance load profile and reduce power consumption costs with sustainable power generation. The results demonstrated the advantages of utilizing RL and V2H as potential storage technology for smart buildings.
Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) is one of the best ways to generate electric power using the solar energy, which is clean and inexhaustible energy resources. The most of BIPV modules have the form of GtoG (Glass to Glass) photovoltaic in building applications. Degradation leading to failure in photovoltaic modules is very important factor in BIPV modules. This paper analyzed the performance of various BIPV modules through outdoor exposure tests. Performance of three BIPV modules(c-Si type, a-Si type and DSSC type) with three installation angles influenced by sun light, outdoor temperature, and wind velocity was monitored and analyzed. As a result, c-Si type BIPV module outperforms other BIPV modules(a-Si type). In terms of power efficiency of the module, the installed angle of $45^{\circ}$ is better than others(90 degree, 0 degree). In addition, more realistic data of various BIPV system performance could be available through the field test and integrated building test. In this study, relationship of the BIPV system is identified module's installation angle, power generation, architectural performance, etc.
