Nowadays Viet Nam's energy supply which is mainly produced by fossil fuels energy such as coal, gas, and oil. However, the operation of fossil fuel power plants is one of the major causes of environmental pollution and climate change as well. It has a serious impact on the survival of human beings in general. As can be seen, the manufacturing industry is strongly invested, the demand for energy is also increasing. As traditional fossil fuels are being depleted and to minimize environmental pollution, renewable energy is the solution widely used by many countries in the world. Therefore, renewable energy has a significant role in maintaining the sustainability of world economy. Renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy can supply clean and nature-sourced energy to replace fossil fuels. Encouraging development of renewables is a general trend in the world today, which is also a common goal of COP21 commitment on global GHG reduction. The objective of this study is to assess the opportunities and challenges for renewable energy development in Vietnam, particularly for solar power. This study also discusses policies to promote the development of solar energy in Vietnam. While solar power provides ecological, economic and social benefits, it is exploited very modestly in Vietnam, where there are many barriers to slow down the development of renewable energy.

The rising penetration of renewable energy resulted in the development of grid-connected large-scale power plants. Therefore, grid stabilization, which depends on the system-type or grid of each country, plays an important role and has been strengthened by different grid codes. With this background, VDE-AR-N 4105 for photovoltaic (PV) systems connected to the low-voltage grid and the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) introduced the medium-voltage grid code for connecting power plants to the grid and they are the most stringent certifications. In this paper, an optimal control strategy scheme for three-phase grid-connected PV system is enhanced with VDE-AR-N 4105 and BDEW grid code, where both active/reactive powers are controlled. Simulation and experimental results of 100kW PV inverter are shown to verify the effectiveness of the proposed implemental control strategy.
Biomimetc is a new domain of learning that proposes a solution getting clues from nature. There seems to be a sign of this phenomenon in fields of Renewable Energy. Foe example, Wind power was imitate the whale's fin that was improve efficiency of generating energy. This study focused on the photovoltaic generation as the instance of applying biomimetic. Efficiency is the most important factor in field of Photovoltaic generation. When given solar cell taking the sun light, most important fields of the study are absorb more light and increase the quantity of generation. For improving efficiency, the solar cell were builded up textures of taking a pyramid form, such a surface structure taking a role for remaining the light. This effects do the role as increasing absorbing efficiency. Such phenomenon calls Light Trapping, locking up the light on the surface of solar cell for a long time. Light is a vital factor to plants in the nature. Plants grow up through the photosynthesis that absorbing light for growth and propagation. So, plants make a effort how can absorb more the light in poor surroundings. This study set up a goal that imitates the minute surface structure of plants and applies to the existing solar cells's surface structure, so it can improve the efficiency of absorbing light. We used Light Tools software analyzing geometrical optics to analyze efficiency about new designed textures on the computer. We made a comparison between existing textures and new designed textures. Consequently, new designed textures were advanced efficiency, absorbing rates of light increasing about 7 percent. In comparison with existing and new textures, advancing about 20 percent in the efficient aspect.
This research presents an in-depth analysis of location planning of the solar-hydrogen power plants for electricity production in different cities situated in Kerman province of Iran. Ten cities were analyzed in order to select the most suitable location for the construction of a solar-hydrogen power plant utilizing photovoltaic panels. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) methodology was applied to prioritize cities for installing the solar-hydrogen power plant so that one candidate location was selected for each city. Different criteria including population, distance to main road, flood risk, wind speed, sunshine hours, air temperature, humidity, horizontal solar irradiation, dust, and land costare used for the analysis. From the analysis, it is found that among the candidates' cities, the site of Lalezar is ranked as the first priority for the solar-hydrogen system development. A measure of validity is obtained when results of the DEA method are compared with the results of the technique for ordering preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). Applying TOPSIS model, it was found that city of Lalezar ranked first, and Rafsanjan gained last priority for installing the solar-hydrogen power plants. Cities of Baft, Sirjan, Kerman, Shahrbabak, Kahnouj, Shahdad, Bam, and Jiroft ranked second to ninth, respectively. The validity of the DEA model is compared with the results of TOPSIS and it is demonstrated that the two methods produced similar results. The solar-hydrogen power plant is considered for installation in the city of Lalezar. It is demonstrated that installation of the proposed solar-hydrogen system in Lalezar can lead to yearly yield of 129 ton-H2 which covers 4.3% of total annual energy demands of the city.

The interest in renewable energy which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions has risen in the world including Korea. In Korea, solar energy generation accounts for a major percentage of electricity production using renewable energy and the solar power plants have been increasingly installed in Korea. The problem is, however, that researches on the location selection of solar power plants are unreasonably insufficient although the photovoltaic technology of the domestic solar power plants has been evolving. Thus, advanced solar energy technology could not be fully used. What is more, the indiscriminate installation of the solar power plants seriously damages the nature environment. In this study, conditions of the power plants location are analyzed in consideration of the social, cultural, environmental, economic factors and the optimum location is selected by visualizing and weighing various factors through the analytic hierarchy process. This study shows that the problem caused by the indiscriminate installation of a solar power plant could be prevented by determining the location after considering the influence of several factors. This paper would be helpful not only for the selection of location for solar plant installation in progress, but also for taking follow-up measures on the existing solar power plants placed wrongly.
The manual inspection of photovoltaic (PV) panels to meet the requirements of inspection work for large-scale PV power plants is challenging. We present a hot spot detection and positioning method to detect hot spots in batches and locate their latitudes and longitudes. First, a network based on the YOLOv3 architecture was utilized to identify hot spots. The innovation is to modify the RU_1 unit in the YOLOv3 model for hot spot detection in the far field of view and add a neural network residual unit for fusion. In addition, because of the misidentification problem in the infrared images of the solar PV panels, the DeepLab v3+ model was adopted to segment the PV panels to filter out the misidentification caused by bright spots on the ground. Finally, the latitude and longitude of the hot spot are calculated according to the geometric positioning method utilizing known information such as the drone's yaw angle, shooting height, and lens field-of-view. The experimental results indicate that the hot spot recognition rate accuracy is above 98%. When keeping the drone 25 m off the ground, the hot spot positioning error is at the decimeter level.
The rising popularity of renewable energy sources resulted in development of the units of higher rated powers, where the large-scale plants and grid-connected type solar power systems are increased. Therefore, the importance of grid stabilization, which depends on each country or system-type, has been strengthened by different grid-codes or certifications. In this paper, the control scheme of three-phase photovoltaic system is enhanced, where both injected active and reactive powers are simultaneously controlled with the consideration of the certification of the Germany Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW). Experimental results are shown to verify the theoretical analysis.

Recently, the power consumption of industrial consumer has increased rapidly, causing problems such as lack of power reserve margin in summer and winter, and therefore there is a growing need for maximum demand power management to consumers. In this paper, we studied small microgrid system consisting of battery ESS and photovoltaic power system, applied to small and medium sized factories to reduce the maximum demand power of daily industrial power load. To verify the validity of the study, we simulated a small microgrid system using Matlab/Simulink software. As a result of applying the simulation to small and medium sized plants that consume a lot of power, it is confirmed that there is a 13% reduction in demand compared to the existing maximum demand power. This result is expected to contribute to the improvement of the power reserve margin.

Recent, energy transition policies are driving to increase in the number of small photovoltaic(PV) generators. It is difficult for system operators to accurately anticipate the amount of power generated from such small scale PV generation, and this may disrupt dispatch schedules and result in an increase in cost. The need for a Virtual Power Plant(VPP) is emerging as a way of resolving these problems, as it would integrate small-scale PV plants and eliminate uncertainty about the amount of power generated, control voltage, and provide power reserves. In this paper, the cost evaluation methods are described for determination of VPP cloud charges both Net Present Value(NPV) method and Profitability Index(PI) method, the calculated outcomes of the two types of cost evaluation methods are presented in detail. It seems we secure profitability as we get 1.22 of profitability index from calculation results, it may be attractive for the aggregator as NPV is enough for satisfying profitability.
