  • Due to merits cost and efficiency, the transformer-less type photovoltaic (PV) inverters have been popularized in the solar market. However, the leakage current flowing through a parasitic capacitor between PV array and ground can cause adverse effect in the transformer-less PV system. In this paper, a bi-directional PV inverter with high efficiency and low noise is proposed for the PV system with an energy storage device. The proposed inverter is a transformer-less type and performs the bi-directional power control between dc sources and grid with high efficiency. In addition, the proposed inverter can suppress the leakage current and obtain low noise characteristic. Finally, 3-kW prototype was implemented to confirm validity of the proposed inverter.

  • In our laboratory, the control aspects are investigated in the photovoltaic power generation systems (PV systems). The PV system is very good for earth environment, but if it connects to power network system, many problems are raised (protection, voltage, harmonics etc.). In this paper, we present the result of the basic studies for the building of the PV system that amplifies the electric energy obtained from the solar cell. We consider electronic circuits in order to protect the PV system from power surge induced by lightning and also design an electronic circuit in order to detect defaults in the power network system. We would like to integrate these circuits into the PV system by considering its control equipment build by 8-bit microcomputer using various control theory (fuzzy, neural network etc.).

  • Soiling is the accumulation of dirt on photovoltaic (PV) modules and can reduce the performance of the PV power plant depending on the site location. Nevertheless, the reason which can not be the great interest to researchers of PV reliability is the phenomenon of performance loss caused by external environmental factors, not the internal degradation of the PV module. In this paper, we provide the phenomenon, history, research overview and mitigation method in order to help understanding of the soiling.

  • There are many factors that affect on the system output of Photovoltaic(PV) power generation; the variation of solar radiation, temperature, energy conversion efficiency of solar cell etc. This paper suggests a methodology for calculation of PV generation output using the probability distribution function of irradiance, PV array efficiency and revision factors of solar cell conversion efficiency. Long-term irradiance data recorded every hour of the day for 11 years were used. For goodness-fit test, several distribution (unctions are tested by Kolmogorov-Smirnov(K-S) method. The calculated generation output with or without revision factors of conversion efficiency is compared with that of CMS (Centered Monitoring System), which can monitor PV generation output of each PV generation site.

  • Maximum power point tracking method is very important to enhance efficiency of photovoltaic system. Meanwhile a lot of research about MPPT has been studied and developed new one better than a method of the past. This paper deals with Perturb and Observation that are most commonly used. Tracking parameter changed PV voltage for PV current and it was simulated with P-SIM program. The P&O tracking method to use current for parameter lows ripple rate of output and enhances response rate of tracking. Through this study, it has been demonstrated that method using current for tracking parameter is effective.

  • Wind power and photovoltaic(PV) generation systems are the fastest growing sources of renewable energy. The nonlinear devices, such as power electronic converter or inverter, of wind power and PV generation systems are the source of harmonics in power systems. The harmonic-related problems can have significant detrimental effects in the power system, such as capacitor heating, data communication interference, rotating equipment heating, transformer heating, relay misoperation and switchgear failure. There is a greater need for harmonic analysis that can properly maintain the power quality. By measuring harmonics of existing wind power and PV generation systems as harmonics modeling, the studies were made to see the harmonic impact of grid-connected wind power and PV generation systems.

  • This paper presents manufacturing techniques and distribution status of photovoltaic(PV) module for the success of domestic PV industries. The domestic PV production facilities were about 21MW at the end of 2004. Now it is about 51MW. By 2005 a increase of production facilities expect approximately 70$\sim$80MW. Also domestic PV cumulated installations up to 2004 was about 9,358kW and in 2004 PV system installed around 2,921kW which was increased about 2.8 times compared with last year.

  • In this paper, an operating characteristics of a 50 kW gird-connected photovoltaic(PV) power system was analysed from 2000 to 2004. The construction of the PV system includes a 3-phase inverter for grid connection, PV module, distribution box, and data monitoring system. The major results of the demonstration test of the 50 kW class gird-connected PV system showed that efficiency of PV system was 11.13%, and the conversion efficiency of the inverter was 92% at a 50% load.
