A dual-particle imager (DPI) is configured in a hand-held form factor, then one can efficiently and conveniently deploy the DPI to detect the presence of special nuclear materials (SNM) and identify any isotopic variations that differ from their natural abundances. Here we show that by maximizing the areal coupling between a pixelated scintillator array and the partitioned photosensor readout such as a silicon photomultiplier (SiPM), the information utilization of the gamma-ray and neutron information in the radiation field can be enhanced, thus enabling one to rapidly acquire spatial maps of the distributions on gamma-ray and neutron emitters.
Positron emission tomography for small animals has very high spatial resolution for imaging very small organs. To achieve good spatial resolution, the system must be constructed using very small scintillation pixels. When a detector is constructed using very small scintillation pixels, the size of the applicable array varies depending on the photosensor pixel. In a previous study, a study was conducted to find the maximum scintillation pixel arrangement according to the size of the photosensor. In this study, a detector with a light guide was designed to configure the detector using a more extended array of scintillation pixels, and try to find the maximum arrangement in which all scintillation pixels are imaged. The detector was designed using DETECT2000, which can simulate a detector made of a scintillator. Simulations were performed by configuring the detectors from an 11 × 11 scintillation pixel array to a 16 × 16 array. After obtaining a flood image by collecting the light generated from the scintillation pixel with a photosensor, the largest arrangement without overlap was found through image analysis. As a result, the largest arrangement in which all scintillation pixels could be distinguished without overlapping was a 15 × 15 arrangement.
In order to maximize the matching ratio between the scintillation pixel and the photosensor of the PET detector using a small number of photosensor, various arrays of scintillation pixels and four photosensors were used. The array of scintillation pixels consisted of six cases from 6 × 6 to 11 × 11. The distance between the photosensors was applied equally to all scintillation pixels, and the arrangement was expanded by reducing the size of scintillation pixel. DETECT2000 capable of light simulation was used to acquire flood images of the designed PET detectors. At the center of each scintillation pixel array, light generated through the interaction between extinction radiation and scintillation pixels was generated, and the light was detected through for four photosensors, and then a flood image was reconstructed. Through the reconstructed flood image, we found the largest arrangement in which all the scintillation pixels can be distinguished. As a result, it was possible to distinguish all the scintillation pixels in the flood image of 8 × 8 scintillation pixel array, and from the 9 × 9 scintillation pixel flood image, the two edge scintillation pixels overlapped and appeared in the image. At this time, the matching ratio between the scintillation pixel and the photosensor was 16:1. When a PET system is constructed using this detector, the number of photosensors used is reduced and the cost of the oveall system is expected to be reduced through the simplification of the signal processing circuit.
A detector module measuring the depth of interaction(DOI) was designed to improve the spatial resolution of positron emission tomography(PET). The scintillation pixel array consists of two layers, and a light guide is inserted between the layers to make the light generated through the gamma-ray event different for each layer. There are four light guides, and one light guide is designed to be coupled to a 2 × 2 array of scintillation pixels. The light generated from the top layer is moved to the photosensor with a wider distribution through the light guide, and the light generated from the bottom layer is incident on the photosensor with a narrower distribution than the top layer. When a flood image is reconstructed based on the signals obtained from the photosensor by different distributions, scintillation pixels are imaged at different positions for each layer. To verify this, a DETECT2000 simulation tool that simulates the behavior of light in a scintillator was used. By designing a scintillation pixel array, a detector consisting of a light guide and a photosensor, a gamma ray event was generated in all scintillation pixels to obtain a flood imgae. As a result, it was confirmed that the top and bottom layers were imaged at different positions and completely separated. When this detector is applied to PET, it is considered that image quality can be improved through imporved spatial resolution.
A photoelectric dimming control system for a small private office space with a double skin envelope system was analyzed for the purpose of examining optimum control performances under a variety of daylight conditions. Computer simulations were performed for the three different photosensor types positioned at the center of ceiling in the space. They were applied in both a south and north-facing room. Daylight conditions were a fixed horizontal venetian blind on an external envelope and a retractable shading device on an internal envelope under a clear, intermediate and overcast sky at different times of a day and year. Partially-shielded photosensors provided good control performances providing the required electric light output under clear and intermediate sky conditions. Unshielded photosensors failed to provide necessary illuminance levels producing less electric output and fully-shielded photosensors generally provided excessive light output. Reasonable electric lighting energy savings were achieved except under overcast sky conditions where the control system did not contribute to energy savings due to the less daylight through envelopes. The retractable shading device covering 50% of the internal envelope reduced energy savings up to 19.62%, but the workplane illuminance levels were maintained within recommended ranges. The coefficients of determination between workplane illuminance and photosensor illuminance due to daylight ranged from 0.74 to 0.98. Partially-shielded conditions provided best correlations and the north-facing room yielded stronger correlation than the south-facing room.
The MLR(Multiple Linear Regression) models to estimate soluble solids content non-destructively were presented to make a selection of optimal photosensor utilized to measure the soluble solids content of apples. Visible and NIR absorbance in the 400 to 2498 nanometer(nm) wavelength region, soluble solids content(sugar content), hardness, and weight were measured for 400 apples(gala). Spectrophotometer with fiber optic probe was utilized for spectrum measurement and digital refractometer was used for soluble solids content. Correlation between absorbance spectrum and soluble solids content was analyzed to pick out the optimal wavelengths and to develop corresponding prediction model by means of MLR. For the coefficient of determination($R^2$) to be over 0.92, the MLR models out of the original absorbance were built based on 7 wavelengths of 992, 904, 1096, 1032, 880, 824, 1048nm, and the ones of the second derivative absorbance based on 5 wavelengths of 784, 1056, 992, 808, 872nm. The best model of the second derivative absorbance spectrum had $R^2$=0.91, bias= -0.02bx, SEP=0.28bx for unknown samples.
The PLS(Partial Least Square) and ANN(Artificial Neural Network) were introduced to develop the soluble solids content prediction model of apples which is followed by making a subsequent selection of photosensor. For the optimal PLS model, number of factors needed for spectrum analysis were increased until the convergence of prediction residual error sum of squares. Analysis has shown that even part of the overall wavelength with no pretreatment may turn out better performing. The best PLS model was found in the 800 to 1,100nm wavelength region without pretreatment of second derivation, having $R^2$=0.9236, bias= -0.0198bx, SEP=0.2527bx for unknown samples. On the other hand, for the ANN model the second derivation led to higher performance. On partial range of 800 to 1,100nm wavelengh region, prediction model with second derivation for unknown samples reached $R^2$=0.9177, SEP=0.2903bx in contrast to $R^2$=0.7507, SEP =0.4622bx without pretreatment.
The important parameters deciding the fluctuation of Accumulation style surgical operation of ventriculus laser beam are smoothing capacitor, frequency and he characteristics of laser resonator. In this thesis, we control the fluctuation of medical $CO_2C$ laser in realtime by changing Duty-Ratio of IGBT and switching frequency with fixed the smoothing capacitor to improve the fluctuation of laser beam. We detect the light on laser resonator using a CdS photo sensor to improve ripple factor of laser beam and feedback fluctuated signals refined by a band pass filter into the control circuit to stabilize fluctuation actively. There is much to be desired in the realtime controlling technique of the light on Accumulation style surgical operation of ventriculus laser discharge tube in electrical signal. We propose switching control technique with microprocessor and photo sensing technique by controlling switch devices optimum operation and feedback signals detected by a photo sensor into the laser power supply in order to improve ripple factor of the $CO_2$ laser beam.
