1$\times$16 DMUX Using Holographic Volume Gratings (홀로그래픽 부피격자를 이용한 1$\times$16 DMUX)

  • We propose a new photorefractive demultiplexer(DMUX) which can select the 16 channel signal in WDM optical communication system using the wavelength selectivity and the demultiplexing property through multiple recording of holographic volume grating in photorefractive Fe-LiNbO$_{3}$ crystal. For the multiple writing of the 16 channels having uniform diffraction efficiency, the rotation multiplexing technique and the exposure time schedule are used. Designed DMUX has the 16 channels with 0.5nm spacing between 670nm and 677.5nm and the bandwidth of 0.16nm. From the experimental results, the diffraction efficiency of each channel is 8.3 $\pm$0.62%, the optical loss from fresnel reflection and absorption on the crystal is 0.4cm-1, the 3㏈ bandwidth is 0.16 $\pm$0.005nm and the channel spacing is 0.46~0.5nm.

  • We present a method to improve encryption level by use of a rotational term in the double random-phase-mask(RPM) encryption system. Encrypted optical images are recorded in a photorefractive LiNbO$_3$:Fe crystal and reconstructed by using a phase conjugated reading beam. The encryption level for the analog image is analyzed by use of visibility function.

  • In this paper, a new hybrid opto-digital multiple information hiding and real-time extracting system was suggested and implemented using a volume holographic optical correlator. The multiple information hiding system in which the multiple information can be hided in an arbitrary cover image was digitally implemented by using the combination of pseudo random sequence and Hadamard matrix. In addition, a real-time optical extraction system in which the hided multiple information in a cover image can be extracted in real-time was implemented by using a volume holographic optical correlator. In the VanderLugt-type holographic optical correlator used in this experiment, the multiful matched spatial filters corresponding each of the hided informations were recorded in a photorefractive crystal by using the moving window-based angular multiplexing scheme.

  • This study is focused on investigating the mechanical properties of the human cornea and its shape through the inverse nonlinear finite element approach using the clinical and experimental data. The results of the inverse approach were used to construct the finite element model of the photorefractive excimer laser surgery for the myopia patients. The results of the finite element model were compared with those of the current clinical experiences and showed good agreements. Finally this study came to the conclusion that the finite element method has potential of the application to the medicine.

Volume Holographic Fingerprint Recognition System for Personal Identification (개인 인증을 위한 체적 홀로그래픽 지문인식 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose a volume holographic fingerprint recognition system based on optical correlator for personal identification. Optical correlator has high speed and parallel processing characteristics of optics. Matched filters are recorded into a volume hologram that can store data with high density, transfer them with high speed, and select a randomly chosen data element. The multiple reference images of database are prerecorded in a photorefractive crystal in the form of Fourier transform images, simply by passing the image displayed in a spatial light modulator through a Fourier transform lens. The angular multiplexing method for multiple holograms of database can be achieved by rotating the crystal by use of a step motor. Experimental results show that the proposed system can be used for the security verification system.

  • 광전달망에서 전송용량의 폭발적인 수요 증가에 대처하기 위한 최적의 솔루션으로 파장분할다중화(WDM: wavelength division multiplexing) 방식이 도입되고 있으며, 그 적용 영역 또한 장거리 시외망, 단거리 시내망부터 인터넷 트래픽 전달용 백본망을 위한 핵심기술로 정착될 것으로 예측하고 있다. WDM 광전송 방식은 기존의 시분할 다중(TDM: time division multiplexing) 방식이 갖는 동기식(SDH: synchronous digital hierarchy) 전송기술의 한계를 보완할 수 있으며, 신호의 다중화 및 역다중화 구성체계가 단순하고, 입력 광신호에 대한 신호속도나 형태등의 제한도 없기 때문에, 기존의 동기식 전송에 비해 전송용량을 쉽게 확장할 수 있다는 장점을 가지고 있다.   • 공간솔리톤(spatial soliton)은 빔이 매질을 진행할 때 자기집속 효과(self-focusing effect) 와 자기확산 효과(self-defocusing effect)에 의해서 회절이 보상되어 형성된다. Kerr 매질에서는 굴절률의 변화가 빔의 세기에 비례하하므로 솔리톤을 발생시키기 위해서는 수 MW/$ extrm{cm}^2$ 이상인 빔의 세기가 요구된다. 광굴절 매질은 광굴절효과에 의해서 굴절률의 변화로 공간솔리톤을 발생시킨다. 비균일한 빔이 매질에 입사되면 전도대로 여기된 free carrier가 분포 차이에 의해서 확산이 일어나게 된다. 그리고 외부에서 걸어준 전기장 및 광기전력 효과로 인한 drift가 일어나게 되고 이것에 의해 생긴 공간 전하장(space charge field)에 의하여 굴절률의 변화가 생긴다. A Study on the Image Reconstruction and Edge Enhancement Using Degenerate Four Wave Mixing in a $BaTiO_3$ Single Crystal ($BaTiO_3$ 단결정에서의 축퇴 4광파 혼합을 이용한 영상복원 및 Edge Enhancement에 관한 연구)

  • Optical phase conjugate mechanism and edge enhancement by degenerate four wave mixing (DFWM) in photorefractive material are described, and image reconstruction is perfromed sucessfully in BaTiO3 single crystal. Also, the edge enhancement is carried out in the crystal by the same DFWM geometry. But the intensities of three incident beams are inverted. Good quality of edge enhancement is observed in real-time (processing time 10 sec) with low incident light intensity (5.38mW/cm\ulcorner.

  • An optical novelty filter is implemented using photorefractive materal(BaTiO$_{3}$) as a recording materal and commercial liquid crystal TV as a spatial light polarization modulator. If a signal beam incident at the proper, the loop and the crossing angle inside th e crystal is formed to get maximum diffraction efficiency and BaTiO$_{3}$ as a self-pumped phase conjugation mirror show that phase conjugate reflectivity was 20 times as much as ordinary polarization if signal beam is extraordinary. In this paper, the stoke's theorem which is a reciprocal theorem for which is a reciprocal theorem for beam path is experimentally proved, and good output images were obtained with optical experiment of novelty filter which is formed by use of Michelson interferometer.

  • Optical pattern recognition system using real-time hologram mechanism in a photorefractive $BaTiO_2$ single crystal is analyzed and experimented. Edge enhancement technique is introduced for enhancing pattern discrimination capability, and patterns can be recognized within 8 sec with 5.5mW low incident light intensity.
