  • The RGB Bayer filter system consists of mosaic R, G, and B filters on the grid of photo sensors with which typical commercial DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras and CCD/CMOS cameras are taken. Many unique astronomical data taken with RGB Bayer filter systems are available, including transient objects, e.g., supernovae, variable stars, and solar system bodies. The utilization of such data in scientific research strongly requires reliable photometry transformation methods. In this work, we develop a series of formulae to derive magnitudes in the Johnson-Cousins BVR filter system from those in the RGB Bayer filter system.

  • UBVIJHK photometry of the open cluster NGC 2194 are presented. Color-Magnitude diagrams of this cluster show well-defined main sequence and red giant clump. The main sequence also contains clear evidence of binary populations. Based on color-color diagrams, absolute magnitude of red giant clump, ZAMS fitting, and comparisons of observed color-magnitude diagrams with theoretical models, we derive following parameters for the cluster; reddening $E(B-V)=0.44{\pm}0.04$, age of log $t{\sim}8.8$, and finally distance of $(m-M)_0=12.20{\pm}0.18$.

  • The wide field $(\~20'\times20')$ CCD photometry has been performed for more than 4,000 stars over a whole region of NGC 362 which is located inside the SMC halo. The Color-Magnitude diagram (CMD) and luminosit function (LF) for red giant branch (RGB) stars are presented, discussing a distinct bump along the RGB and some blue stars appearing in the blue horizontal branch (BHB) and above BHB. The anomalous globular cluster NGC 362 with highly populated red horizontal branch (RHB) stars is compared with the another anomalous globular cluster NGC 288 with highly populated BHB stars. A metal-rich, young blue component and metal-'poor, old red component of the SMC halo stars are examined.

  • The Automated Eichner Iris Photometer(AEIP) at the Korea Basic Science Center was tested for its function and the proper procedure for photographic photometry. The AEIP requires about three hours for reaching the electrical stability. When the iris is controlled automatically, the repeatability of density unit (DU) is accurate in the uncertainty of ($0.0028{\sim}0.0048$)DU. The iris reading is found to be accurate within the mean error of $0.^{m}05$, which could be reduced to $0.^{m}02$ by the manual control. To check the applicability of the AEIP. each two photographic plates for UBV colors which were taken by Dupuy and Zukauskas(l976) for the open cluster Byur 2, were measured by using the AEIP. and the photographic magnitudes and colors of the stars in Byur 2 were determined. discussing the previous results.

  • Using the JHK 2MASS near-infrared data, we present photometry results for the old open cluster (OC) Trumpler 5 (Tr 5). From the near-infrared color-magnitude diagrams of Tr 5, we have located the position of the red giant clump (RGC) stars, and used the mean magnitude of the RGC stars in K-band to estimate the distance to Tr 5. From the Padova isochrone fittings, we have estimated the reddening, metallicity, and age of Tr 5. These parameters generally agree well with those obtained from the previous studies on Tr 5 and confirms that this cluster is an old OC with metallicity being metal-poorer than solar abundance, located in the anti-Galactic center region.

  • We present VR CCD photometry and long-slit spectroscopy of a late type spiral galaxy NGC 7678. The grey scale images and isophotal maps illustrate the presence of a weak bar from which spiral arms emerge. There are many HII regions along the spiral arms, but bright giant HII regions are more concentrated in the massive southern arm. The bright compact nucleus of NGC 7678 is bluer than bulge and bar. The spectral features of the nucleus and HII regoins are very similar but the nuclear spectra shows higher $[NII]{\lambda}6583/H_\alpha$ than those of the HII regions. The nucleus of NGC 7678 seems to be intermediate type between HII region nulcei and LINERs by the ratio of $[NII]{\lambda}6583/H_\alpha$, but it is more likely to be HII region-like nucleus if we consider the $[NII]{\lambda}6716,6731/H_\alpha$ together. The star formation rate is estimated to be about $0.2 M_\bigodot\;yr^{-1}$ based on the $H_\alpha$ flux.

  • The BV-photographic photometry was made for 1714 stars (V<19.5) in NGC 6752. The C-M diagram of this cluster shows an unusually extended blue horizontal branch $(V=13.5{\sim}17.8)$ with a wide gap $(V=16{\sim}16.7)$ and the well defined giant branch with gaps at V=13.85 and 16.2. The turnoff point is defined at $V=17.25{\pm}0.15$ and (B-V) = $0.46{\pm}0.02$. If we take $V_{HB}=13.85$ for NGC 6752, then ${\Delta}V=2.80,\;(B-V)_{0,g}=0.76\;and\;{\Delta}V_{TO}=3.40$ and the chemical abundance is estimated to be [Fe/H]=-1.67 or $Z=4.3{\times}10^{-4}\;and\;Y=0.26$. Some other physical parameters of this cluster are derived and compared with those for the well observed clusters M 3, M 13, M 15 and M 92.

  • A dwarf irregular galaxy IC10 in the Local Group is the nearest starburst galaxy, playing an important role revealing the details of starburst. It is located close to the Galactic plane so that it suffers from severe foreground reddening. Therefore much less is known about the property of this galaxy compared with other galaxies in the Local Group. So are star clusters in this galaxy. We present a photometric study of the star clusters in IC10. 57 star clusters are already found from HST images in previous studies, and we newly found 15 star clusters using Local Group Survey data and SUBARU/Suprime-Cam data. We derive UBVRI integrated photometry of these star clusters from the images from Local Group Survey data and JHKs photometry taken with SUBARU/MOIRCS. Then we derive age and mass of these clusters using the spectral energy distribution fitting with the simple stellar population models. We discuss the photometric and physical properties of these star clusters and its implication.

  • We used BV CCD images to study the dynamical substructures of three globular clusters - M5, NGC6934, NGC7006 - analyzing the radial variations of ellipticity and position angle from the point spread function stellar photometry and the ellipse surface photometry. Several populations were classified by the brightness on color-magnitude diagrams of each globular cluster. Ellipse analyses to the images, removed stars of each population from the original images of the clusters, show radial variations in ellipticity and position angle, with the amount of $0.01\~0.25$ in ellipticity and $+90\~-90$ degrees in position angle up to roughly three times of half light radius $(r_h)$. It is also apparent that there are no significant discrepancies in the dynamical substructures beyond $r_h$ among the different populations. However, dynamical substructures on the central region (i.e., inner than $\~r_h$) reflect the contributions of populations of bright red giant stars and horizontal branch stars.

  • Near-IR observations of the central few parsecs of our Galaxy from the HST/NICMOS have been analyzed to produce H, K photometry. We have cross-identified our photometry with the Keck high-resolution spectrometry of the central 0.5 pc of our galaxy to distinguish evolved late-type stars from early-type stars, and use late-type stars as tracer population. We perform several statistical tests to find the best fitting parameters of stellar density distribution and velocity dispersion models, then derive volume number densities and velocity dispersions. The volume number density distribution has power law index $1.55\~1.7$. We then derive the mass distribution in the Central region of our Galaxy using the Jeans equation.
