In this paper, the photo-induced of a-$Sc_{75} Ge_{25}$thin films has been investigated as a function of annealing, exposure and obliqueness. The photo-induced effect consists of photo-thermal and photo-optical effect, which the photo-optical effect increases with increasing obliqueness. As the results, these photo-induced effects are related to the creation of atomic and electronic metastable state due to the surface defects.

Hydrophilic contact lens was prepared by dispersing MXene material in a hydrogel mixture, and the purpose of this study was to evaluate its properties as an ophthalmic material. The MXene used in the experiment was manufactured through an etching process using titanium aluminum carbide 312 [Ti3AlC2] and hydrofluoric acid [HF]. For the preparation of hydrophilic contact lenses, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate [HEMA], a photoinitiator 2-hydroxy-2-methylpropiophenone [2H2M], and a cross-linker Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate [EGDMA] were used, and UV-rays was irradiated for 50 seconds for photopolymerization. Optical transmittance, refractive index, water content, contact angle, electromagnetic wave shielding ability, and photo-thermal conversion effect were measured to evaluate the physical properties of the manufactured contact lens. Compared to MXene materials, MXene mixed with Dimethyl sulfoxide [DMSO] had superior dispersion ability in organic solvents, and the transparency of the prepared hydrophilic contact lenses was high. MXene did not significantly affect the refractive index and water content, and improved the wettability of the contact lens. In addition, the MXene material used as an additive showed electromagnetic wave shielding ability and photo-thermal conversion effect based on its excellent electrical conductivity. It is judged that the mixture using MXene as an additive can be used as a functional contact lens material for electromagnetic wave shielding and ocular photo-thermal therapy.

In this study, we investigated pretilt angle generation and liquid crystal alignment by UV light irradiation during imidization of polyimide. Generated pretilt angle of NLC by using in-situ UV photo-alignment method was smaller than that of the conventional UV photo-alignment method. Also, generated pretilt angle of NLC tends to increase by annealing. We found that in-situ UV photo-alignment method has higher thermal stability of LC alignment, but it has a disadvantage to control pretilt angle.

In this study, we have investigated photo-induced changes of optical energy gap( $E_{OP)}$ and photoluminescence (PL) in amorphous ($\alpha$-) S $e_{100-x}$G $e_{x}$ (x=5, 25 and 33) thin films prepared by conventional thermal evaporation method. In the $\alpha$-S $e_{100-x}$G $e_{x}$ thin film, the $E_{OP}$ is obtained by a linear extrapolation of the ($\alpha$hν)$^{\frac{1}{2}}$ versus hν plot to the energy axis using the optical absorption coefficient ($\alpha$) calculated from the extinction coefficient k measured in the wavelength range of 290~900nm. Although the values of $\Delta$ $E_{OP}$ are very different, all films exhibit photo-induced photo-darkening (PD) effect that is a red shift of $E_{OP}$ . In particular, $\Delta$ $E_{OP}$ in $\alpha$-S $e_{75}$ G $e_{25}$ thin film exhibits the largest value (i, e., $\Delta$ $E^{OP}$ ~40meV for $\alpha$-S $e_{95}$ G $e_{5}$ , $\Delta$ $E_{OP}$ ~200meV for $\alpha$-S $e_{75}$ G $e_{25}$ , $\Delta$ $E_{OP}$ ~130meV for $\alpha$-S $e_{67}$ G $e_{33}$ ). PL spectra in $\alpha$-SeGe by hν$_{HeCd}$ have no-Stokes shift (SS) and show a tendency dependent on both composition and illumination time. We explain the energy-induced phenomena such as the PD and thermal bleaching, the native charged-defect generation and the no-SS PL, etc..the PD and thermal bleaching, the native charged-defect generation and the no-SS PL, etc..tc..

A new photo-polymer material of the copoly (PM4Ch-ChMA), copoly (poly (4-methacryloyloxy)chalcone-cholesteryl methacrylate) for homeotropic alignment was synthesized and the electro-optical (EO) performance for the photo-aligned vertical-aligned (VA)-LC display (LCD) was studied. Good thermal stabilities of synthesized copolymer were obtained by TGA(Thermogravimetric Analysis) measurement. Good voltage-transmittance (V-T) and response time characteristics for the photo-aligned VA-LCD with polarized UV exposure in oblique direction($\theta$$_{i}$=30$^{\circ}$) on a copolymer-1 (2%) surfaces for 1 min were observed. but, light leakage in the off-state was observed. Therefore, we achieved excellent V-T and response time characteristics for the photo-aligned VA-LCD with UV exposure on a copolymer-3 (30%) surfaces for 3 min.n.

Polyimides are blended with photoreactive polymers in order to improve the thermal stability of molecular orientation of photoreactive groups induced by polarized UV irradiation. The polyimide/photopolymer blends can be applied for the photo-induced liquid crystal alignment layers. However, the polyimides are also decomposed by UV irradiation and this may have the negative effect on the orientation of liquid crystals. In order to elucidate the influence of polyimide on the molecular orientation of liquid crystal, non-photoreactive naphthalenic polyimide (1,4,5,8-naphthalene tetracarboxylic dianhydride} was selected for the blend alignment layers. We prepared the blends of photo-reactive coumarin polymers and naphthalenic polyimide, and investigated the orientation of liquid crystals. Thermal stability of the orientation of liquid crystals was enhanced due to the thermally stable polyimide. However, there was no other side-effect of polyimide on the orientation of liquid crystals and this might be attributed to the non-photo-reactivity of naphtahlenic polyimide.

Poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (PHEMA) hydrogels modified with various co-monomers, such as N-vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA), and glycerol monomethacrylate (GMMA), were prepared to investigate the effect of adding a co-monomer on the water contents, surface wettability, and tensile modulus. These polymers were synthesized by thermal- and photo-polymerization in the presence of azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) and diphenyl(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)-phosphineoxide (TPO) as the initiators. The characteristics of the hydrogels were analyzed via FTIR and UV/Vis spectroscopies, contact angle measurements, and tensile modulus measurements with UTM. Regarding the properties of water in the hydrogels, the ratio between free to bound water was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The effects of adding the co-monomers on the water content, surface wettability, and tensile modulus for soft contact lenses were also investigated. In the case of p(HEMA-co-NVP) hydrogels, the increase in the equilibrium water content (EWC) was primarily due to the increase in the bound water content. For p(HEMA-co-GMMA) hydrogels, an increase in free water content was the main reason for the increased EWC. In contrast, in the case of p(HEMA-co-GMA) hydrogels, a decrease in bound water content was observed to be the main factor that reduced the EWC. Photo-polymerized PHEMA hydrogels showed enhanced surface wettability and tensile modulus as compared to those produced via thermal polymerization.

A $ZrO_2$ coating solution containing $ZrO_2$ photo-catalysis, which is transparent in visible light, was prepared by the hydrolysis of alkoxide, and thin films on the $SiO_2$ glass substrate were formed in a dipcoating method. These thin films were heat-treated at temperatures ranging from $250^{\circ}C-800^{\circ}C$ and their characteristics were subjected to thermal analysis, XRD, spectrometry, SEM, EDS, contact angle measurement, and AFM. Tetragonal $ZrO_2$ phase was found in the thin film heat treated at $450^{\circ}C$, and anatase $TiO_2$ phase was detected in the thin film heat-treated at $600^{\circ}C$ and above. The thickness of the films was approximately 300 nm, and the roughness was 0.66 nm. Thus, the film properties are excellent. The films are super hydrophilic with a contact angle of $4.0^{\circ}$; moreover, they have self-cleaning effect due to the photo catalytic property of anatase $TiO_2$.

We investigated H-type molecular aggregation in a simply spin-coated amorphous homopolymer film of polymethacrylate containing push-pull azobenzene moieties. It was found that the aggregate formation was strongly influenced by thermal treatment an d that the aggregate created in the polymer film could be easily disrupted by irradiation of a linearly polarized light. In the first writing cycle of aggregated polymer film, photo-induced birefringence showed a steep increase to the highest value followed by a gradual decrease to the certain asymptotic value under longer irradiation of a linearly polarized light. This unique behavior could be attributed to the cooperative motion and the disruption of the aggregated molecules under continuous irradiation of light.
