  • TiO$_2$-WO$_3$(8.2wt%) coatings were prepared by the APS (Atmospheric Plasma Spraying) process to clarify the relationship between the process parameters(H$_2$ gas flow rate of plasma 2nd gas and spraying distance) of the APS coating and photo-decomposition efficiency kinetics of the MB(methylene blue) aqueous solution decomposition and to understand the effect of addition of WO$_3$ on photocatalytic properties of TiO$_2$ sprayed coating. Further, the temperature and velocity of flying particles were measured by DPV-2000 to investigate the relationship between microstructure of coatings and process parameters. Properties of coatins were investigated by XRD, SEM, XPS, RAMAN, UV/VIS spectrometer. In case of the TiO$_2$-WO$_3$(8.2wt%) coating, it had a lower anatase fraction than that of pure-TiO$_2$ coatings because of flying in the higher temperature plasma plume by the heavy weight of TiO$_2$, WO$_3$. And, when WO$_3$ added powders were spayed, the doping effects of W ions substituted into the Ti ion sites was not occured during melting and solidification cycles of spraying. It was found that the addition of WO$_3$ was ineffective effective on increasing photo-decomposition efficiency of TiO$_2$ sprayed coating.

  • We examined the photo catalytic activity and catalytic recyclability of CdSe/graphene nanocomposites fabricated via modified hydrothermal technique. The prepared composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersive X-ray (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman spectroscopic analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic behavior was investigated through decomposition of RBB as a standard dye under visible light radiation. Our results indicate that there is significant potential for graphene based semiconductor hybrids materials to be used as photocatalysts under visible light irradiation for the degradation of organic dyes from industry effluents.

  • Activated carbon modified with nickel (Ni-AC) was employed the for preparation of Ni-activated carbon/$TiO_2$ (Ni-AC/$TiO_2$) composites. The $N_2$ adsorption data showed that the composites had a decreased surface area compared with pristine AC. This indicated blocking of the micropores on the surface of the AC, which was further supported by observation via SEM. XRD results showed that the Ni-AC/$TiO_2$ composite contained a mixed anatase and rutile phase while the untreated AC/$TiO_2$ contained only a typical single and clear anatase phase. EDX results showed the presence of C, O, and Ti with Ni peaks on the composites of Ni-AC/$TiO_2$. Subsequently, the photocatalytic effects on methylene blue (MB) were investigated. The improved decomposition of MB showed the combined effects of adsorptions and photo degradation. In particular, composites treated with Ni enhanced the photo degradation behaviors of MB.

  • An experiment to find out the removal mechanism of PEG(polyethyleneglycol) by using UV-enhanced $O_2$ GPC (gas phase cleaning) at low substrate temperature below $200^{\circ}C$ was executed under various process conditions, such as substrate temperature, UV exposure, and $O_2$ gas. The possibility of using $UV/O_2$ GPC as a low-temperature in-situ cleaning tool for organic removal was confirmed by the removal of a PEG film with a thickness of about 200 nm within 150 sec at a substrate temperature of $200^{\circ}C$. Synergistic effects by combining photo-dissociation and photo oxidation can only remove the entire PEG film without residues within experimental splits. In $UV/O_2$ GPC with substrate temperatures higher than the glass transition temperature, the substantial increase in the PEG removal rate can be explained by surface-wave formation. The photo-dissociation of PEG film by UV exposure results in the formation of end aldehyde by dissociation of back-bone chain and direct decomposition of light molecules. The role of oxygen is forming peroxide radicals and/or terminating the dis-proportionation reaction by forming peroxide.

  • The effects of the linearly polarized UV (LPUV) irradiation and thermal treatment of a photo-degradable polyimide (CBDA-ODA) alignment layer (AL) on its AL properties, liquid crystal (LC) alignment, and LCD characteristics have been investigated. The best quality of LC photo-alignment have been induced by the LPUV-irradiation with much (about 5~10 times) less dosage than that generating the maximum anisotropy of the AL. A thermal treatment of the LPUV-irradiated AL has effectively removed the undesirable, low-M.W. fragments of the AL generated during the photo-decomposition and increased the stability of the AL, which has resulted in improvement of the LC alignment and the LCD property.

  • The hybrid $C/TiO_2$ complexes were prepared by a method involving the penetration of titanium n-butoxide (TNB) solution with porous carbons. The photocatalysts were investigated for their surface textural properties and SEM morphology, structural crystallinity and elemental identification between porous carbon and $TiO_2$, and dye decomposition performance. For all the $C/TiO_2$ complexes prepared by TNB solution methods, the excellent photocatalytic effect for dye degradation should be attributed to the synergitic effects between photo-decomposition of the supported $TiO_2$ and adsorptivity of the porous carbons.

  • The Fe-treated CNT/$TiO_2$ photocatalysts mixed with anatase and rutile phase have been developed for the decomposition of non-biodegradable different organic dyes like methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (Rh.B), and methyl orange (MO) in two conditions as ultraviolet and visible light respectively. The results indicate that all the Fe-CNT/$TiO_2$ composites proved to be more efficient photocatalysts since degradation of MB at higher reaction rates, tthe decomposition rate of different dyes increases with an increase of $Fe^{3+}$ concentration in composites the highest rate of decomposition of different dyes was noted under UV irradiation. These results can indicate that the large CNT network is facilitate the electron transfer and strongly adsorb dye molecules on the texted photocatalysts, iron is reactive in the photo-Fenton process resulting in high production of OH radicals and also high activity of the photocatalyst. And Fe particles can generate more photoinduced electrons to conduction band of $TiO_2$ under visible light irradiation. The composites of Fe-CNT/$TiO_2$ photocatalysts synthesized by a sol-gel method were characterized by BET, TEM, SEM, XRD and EDX.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the exposure possibility of by-products during the semiconductor manufacturing processes. Methods: The authors investigated types of chemicals generated during semiconductor manufacturing processes by the qualitative experiment on generation of by-products at the laboratory and a literature survey. Results: By-products due to decomposition of photoresist by UV-light during the photo-lithography process, ionization of arsine during the ion implant process, and inter-reactions of chemicals used at diffusion and deposition processes can be generated in wafer fabrication line. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene and formaldehyde can be generated during the mold process due to decomposition of epoxy molding compound and mold cleaner in semiconductor chip assembly line. Conclusions: Various types of by-products can be generated during the semiconductor manufacturing processes. Therefore, by-products carcinogen such as benzene, formaldehyde, and arsenic as well as chemical substances used during the semiconductor manufacturing processes should be controlled carefully.

  • The decomposition of 50 pesticides present in an aqueous solution using ${\gamma}-irradiation$ from a $^{60}Co$ gamma-ray source was investigated using laboratory-scale experiment. The rates of decomposition were determined using a gas chromatography-electron capture detector (GC-ECD), high-performance liquid chromatography-photo diode array detector (HPLC-PDA), and HPLC-fluorescence detector (FLD). When the initial concentration of pesticides was 10 ppm, and the radiation dose was 2, 5, 10, 20, and 30 kGy, respectively, 14 pesticide samples showed high removal rates (>50%) at absorbed doses of more than 10 kGy. With the exception of procymidone, they were all completely removed at a 30 kGy irradiation dose. These results provide fundamental data on the reactivity between gamma-irradiation and pesticides in an aqueous solution. Further, an evaluation of the toxicity of radiolytic intermediate products is required.
