The purpose of this study is to observe a specific removal efficiency of synthethetic wastewater which is managed by upflow submerged type at porous media which was sinteringed on a comparative low temperature 600$\circ$C, was annexed slag and humus soil with main material kaolinite. Observing removal efficiency quality of each media, a mixed media of kaolinite and humus soil by gravity percent 60, 40% respectively showed the most excellent removal utility, and applied predictive models for suspended culture kinetics without consideration diffusion limitation, and when analyzed kinetic which had been processed by this study the removal efficiency accompanied by carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous volumetric loading rate variation standed for a comparative large change rate 61~71%, it means the selection of the most proper load factor had a great effect on the highly removal efficiency, yield coefficient(Y) and specific microbial attach equation showed 1.53 mgVSS/mgCOD, $m_p=10039.4\times ((S_0)/(6.75+S_0))$ repectively.
The treatment performances of anaerobic-aerobic activated sludge process were investigated under various operation conditions. The treatment system proposed in this study gave a relatively stable performance against hourly change of the flow rate and showed a satisfactory removal of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds under experimental conditions. The recycle ratio of mixed liquor from aerobic to anaerobic region and peak coefficient primarily controlled the extent of nitrogen removal. The recycle ratio had the optimum values which were determined by the microbial activities of nitrification and denitrification. The behavior of the treatment unit could be simulated by using the kinetic equations and reactor models which considered the treatment units as complete mixing tanks.

A combination of the submerged membrane activated-sludge bioreactor(SMABR) equipped with non-woven fabric filter and oyster-zeolite (OZ) packed-bed adsorption column was studied to evaluate the advanced tertiary treatment of nitrogen and phosphorous. The non-woven filter module was submerged in the MBR and aeration was operated intermittently for an optimal wastewater treatment performance. Artificial wastewater with $COD_{Cr}$ of 220 mg/L, total nitrogen (T-N) of 45 mg/L, and total phosphorous (T-P) of 6 mg/L was used in this study. MLSS was maintained about $4,000\;{\sim}\;5,000\;mg/L$ throughout the experiments. The experiments were performed for 100-day with periodic non-woven filter washing. The results showed that $COD_{Cr}$ could be effectively removed in SMABR alone with over 94% removal efficiency. However, T-N and T-P removal efficiency was slightly lower than expected with SMABR alone. The permeate from SMABR was then passed through the OZ column for tertiary nutrients removal. The final effluent analysis confirmed that nutrients could be additionally removed resulting in over 87% and 46% removal efficiencies for T-N and T-P, respectively. The results of this study suggest that the waste oyster-shell can be effectively reclaimed as an adsorbent in advanced tertiary wastewater treatment processes in combination with SMABR equipped with non-woven fabric filter.

A Korean Type Biofilter system combined with a conventional anoxic tank(septic tank) process was investigated in regard to its feasibility for removing organic as well as nutrients from the rural wastewater in Korea. At recirculation, the removal rate in BOD and SS increased slightly as much as 93 and 95% compared with non-recirculation system. On the other hand, removal rates of the total nitrogen(T-N) and total phosphorous(T-P) in recirculation system increased significantly as much as 62 and 57%, respectively compared with non-recirculation system. The recirculation system provides sufficient treatment to improve the removal rate in T-N and T-P.
This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of livestock wastewater excepting pig feces and the variation tendency of water quality and the removal efficiency of polluting materials by establishing the sequencing batch reactor in the field. The results were as follows, 1. The characteristics of livestock wastewater as follows: BOD: 619.80, COD$_{cr}$: 782.70, NH$_{3}$-N: 194.20, TKN: 232.81, PO$_{4}$-P: 24.10, T-P: 215.14 (mg/l) 2. During the reaction, negative correlation existed between pH and dissolved oxygen concentration. 3. The removal efficiency of the organic material by the index of BOD and COD was about 90%. 4. Nitrogen removal efficiency was 65.6% by total Kjeldahl nitrogen index, and phosphorous removal efficiency was about 47% by PO$_{4}$-P concentration.
In this study, several series of experiments were conducted to investigate the phosphorus (P) removal process in slag-containing solution using furnace and converter slags. High amount of $OH^-$, $Ca^{2+}$ and alkalinity were discharged from the slags and hydroxyapatites [$Ca_5(PO_4)_3(OH)$] were kept accumulated on the surface of slag. P removal capacity of the slag decreased with the increase of slag dosage. The maximum capacity was found to be 11.25 mg/g at the converter slag. Converter slag adsorbed P more than furnace slag(about four times in average). An experimental study on the effect of pH shows that the percentage removal of P increased upto 30% at the pH range of 56 than that of above pH 8. Langmuir isotherm constants gave a better correlation than Freundlich ones. P removal amount in the presence of $NH^+_4$ was less compared to the one in the absence of $NH^+_4$. Maximum percentage reduction was 23%.
A long- time aeration method was developed for purification of animal wastewater. Under repeated aereations of 4 hours on and 4 hours off, the higher removal rates were obtained which were in average of 99%, 96%, 92% and 50% for BOD, SS, total nitrogen and phosporous, respectively. In detail, the measured BOD concentrations of the influent and effluent were 2,700ppm and 40ppm while the SS concentrations in the primary chamber and of the effluent were about 3,000 and 110 ppm, respectively. Zeolite and activated carbon, applied for removing the nitrogen and phosphorous, showed a good absorption, especially zeolite for NH$_4$-N and activated carbon for NO$_3$-N and PO$_4$-P. The treatment cost per head by this method amounts to 1,923 won and it comes to 1.6% in the whole production cost. Therefore, this method is economically available with the half cost of the conventional activated sludge process.
