The Effect of Human Factors on the Use of Mobile Phone (이용자의 인적 속성이 이동전화 이용에 미치는 영향)

  • Mobile phone users have diversified human factors: their channel orientations are different, and the degrees of unwillingness to communicate vary. We examined the effect of human factors on the use of mobile phone, such as the diversity of mobile phone use, the appropriateness of mobile phone, and the aversion to mobile phone as well as the interpersonal communication network through mobile phone. For our sample we surveyed college students and their family members who are older than 400. We found that the more social presence a mobile phone user gets through the mobile phone, and the more familiar to the mobile phone he/she is, (1) the more diversified is the use of mobile phone service, (2) the higher is the level of acceptance of the mobile phone as an interpersonal communication media, and (3) the lower is the level of aversion to the mobile phone. In contrast, those who have some level of aversion to the face-to-face communication, seem to form very limited interpersonal communication network through mobile phone. Their use of mobile phone is also very limited.

  • In Korea, the number of cellular phone user rapidly increases. As cellular phone users increase, the crime related cellular phone terminal and contents becomes a newly emerging serious social problem. However, the study on cellular phone crime is very rare in Korea now. The purpose of this study are an examination of the concept, types and the current condition of cellular phone crime, and a suggestion for efficient countermeasures of cellular phone crime.

Verification of Normalized Confidence Measure Using n-Phone Based Statistics

  • Confidence measure (CM) is used for the rejection of mis-recognized words in an automatic speech recognition (ASR) system. Rahim, Lee, Juang and Cho's confidence measure (RLJC-CM) is one of the widely-used CMs [1]. The RLJC-CM is calculated by averaging phone-level CMs. An extension of the RLJC-CM was achieved by Kim et al [2]. They devised the normalized CM (NCM), which is a statistically normalized version of the RLJC-CM by using the tri-phone based CM normalization. In this paper we verify the NCM by generalizing tri-phone to n-phone unit. To apply various units for the normalization, mono-phone, tri-phone, quin-phone and $\infty$-phone are tested. By the experiments in the domain of the isolated word recognition we show that tri-phone based normalization is sufficient enough to enhance the rejection performance of the ASR system. Also we explain the NCM in regard to two class pattern classification problems.

  • As smart phone became popular, its excessive uses cause adverse effects called smart-phone syndrome such as Turtle-neck syndrome in physical side and smart-phone addiction in mental aspects. Turtle-neck syndrome incurred by incorrect posture when you watch smart-phone, which causes a serious health problems. However, these syndromes can be detected by gyro-sensor and timer, and prevented by correcting the posture and halting the function with smart-phone application (App). Thus, this paper proposes App that helps user to realize bad posture and addiction to smart-phone, and to acquire the correct habit by inducing user to stretch neck or to stop operation with warning message. If we tried to adjust bad posture and addiction in using smart-phone through this application, the social losses from smart-phone syndrome would be minimized as a result.

Cell Phone Addiction in Highschool Students and Its Predictors (고등학생의 휴대전화 중독과 예측 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify cell phone addiction in high school students and variables predicting this addiction. Methods: The participants were 469 adolescents from four high schools. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, and analyzed using the SPSS program. Results: Of the high school students, 88.4% reported being average users, 7.5%, heavy users, and 4.1%, cell phone addicted. Cell phone addiction was significantly correlated with immediate self-control, self-efficacy, depression, and peer support. Predictors of cell phone addiction were the following: receiving text message on weekends, immediate self-control, main use (text message), minute per call on weekdays, listening to music, gender (female), monthly call charges, depression, person called (friends), and self-efficacy. These factors explained 39% of variance in cell phone addiction. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that cell phone addiction in high school students was influenced by gender, cell phone use, and psychological factors. Therefore the approach to effective cell phone addiction management for high school students is to consider these variables when developing programs for these students.

Factors influencing Cell Phone Addiction in Middle School Students by Gender (성별에 따른 중학생의 휴대전화 중독의 영향 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine factors influencing cell phone addiction for middle school students by gender. Methods: The participants were 228 male students and 228 female students in two middle schools. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: Cell phone addictions of female students are higher than those of male students. Factors influencing cell phone addiction for male students were mimicry, sending text message on weekdays, immediate self-control, grade, syntony, and monthly call charge, explaining 42.2% of variance in cell phone addiction. Factors influencing cell phone addiction for female students were internet addiction, sending and receiving text message on weekends, immediate self-control, long-term self-control, use time, main use, syntony, and monthly call charge, explaining 46.8% of variance in cell phone addiction. Conclusion: The results indicated that cell phone addiction and its influencing factors differed by gender. Therefore the approach to effective cell phone addiction management program for middle school students should consider gender differences.

  • The purpose of this study is to find factors which are influencing choosing game based on empirical study. Today, many kind of smart phone games are developing because advanced smart phone hardware. Therefore we analyze to choose factors of smart phone game. As a results many smart phone game user more interested in reward than others. Many smart phone game company service their own game based on semi pay game because of profit. However, smart phone game user doesn't want to pay it. Thus mart phone game company have to change their sales strategy. Second, smart phone game user believe that access is important. So smart phone game company to manage game server.

Educational Needs for Children and Parents Regarding Children's Cell Phone Use (아동과 부모의 휴대전화 사용에 대한 교육 요구)

  • Purpose: This study was done to develop an educational needs scale for cell phone use, to investigate the scope of cell phone use in children and their parents' perception, and to compare the educational needs for children and parents regarding children's cell phone use. Method: The participants were 152 children and 152 parents in two cities. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, and analyzed using the SPSS program. Result: Ten items regarding the educational needs for cell phone use were selected for the final scale, and categorized into 2 factors (cell phone use and cell phone addiction). The scope of cell phone use in children is different from their parents' perception. The educational needs of parents were higher than those of children. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the scope of cell phone use and the educational needs of children were different from their parents' perception and needs. Further research would be required to identify the educational needs for children and parents regarding children's cell phone use and related factors. In addition, development and effects of the educational programs for cell phone use in children and parents will be required.

A Study on Features of Smart Phone Users (스마트 폰 사용자 특성에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • Mobile phones users are not only able to use smart phone services in real time whenever and wherever they desire, but also they can acquire appropriate information that they need. The features of smart phone services and users are examined in this study because there are not enough studies on such unique features of smart phone services. In accordance with the results of the study the features of smart phone services and users can be categorized as follows: 1) the requisite features of smart phone services are immediate connectivity and. 2) The requisite features for smart phone users are user friendliness and user innovation. 3) The requisite features of smart phone technology are security and linkage.

The Effects of Self Esteem and Optimism on Adolescents' Smart Phone Addiction (중학생의 자아존중감과 낙관성이 스마트폰 중독에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship among self-esteem, optimism, and smart phone addiction of middle school students and examine the variables on smart phone addiction. Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 475 middle school students in U city. To analyze the sample survey data, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, duncan test and multiple regression analysis were performed with SPSS/WIN 15.0. Results: There were statistically significant differences among general characteristics sex, grade, school record, satisfaction with school life, economic state, romantic relationship, the period of smart phone usage, and smart phone usage fee with smart phone addiction. Also, there were significant negative relationships between self-esteem and optimism. Significant factors that affect smart phone addiction in middle school students were sex, self esteem, smart phone usage fee. These variables explained 10.8% of smart phone addiction. Conclusions: The results of this study reveal that the significant factors of smart phone addiction are sex and self-esteem. This study indicates that it is important to develop self esteem promotion programs that focus on sex trait in order to prevent smart phone addiction on adolescents.
