  • Nei Ching referred to as a canon of Chinese medicine is a comprehensive life philosophy that applied the life principle of the universe to the human body to combine the philosophical concept with the human nature as well as the functions of the body's organs. The book formed a complete system of a Qi Philosophy by using the medical terminology and theory based on the concept of Qi. It is remarkable that the Qi philosophy of Chang Tsai, who is a Neo-Confucianist and representative scholar of Qi philosophy in the era of Song Dynasty, has been influenced by the Qi philosophy in Nei Ching and developed into a Confucian school Furthermore, Chang Tsai's theory, in effect, impacted upon the rise of Qi Determination of the Human Nature in Medicine of Zhang Jie Bin who is a profound thinker in the era of Ming dynasty. As mentioned above, both traditional philosophy and medical philosophy in china in regard to Qi Theory have interacted and developed each other. This paper is to make a comparative study of the Qi Determination of the Human Nature proposed by Chang Tsai and Zhang Jie Bin and to trace the orgin of the Qi Determination of Human Nature.

  • The value of Dongeuibogam has been officially acknowledged as a Memory of the World. However, we should not overlook the forward-looking value of Dongeuibogam in addition to its backward-looking value. For the past 200 years, Western medicine has attained great achievements in therapeutic medicine based on Descartes' mind-body dualism, which focuses on the body as a separate entity from the mind. Recently, Western medicine modified its previously one-sided track into a new orientation towards holistic mind-body medicine in recognition of the two as an organic whole. At this point in time, it is essential to draw attention to the forward-looking value of Dongeuibogam, which pioneered mind-body medicine based on the medicinal philosophy of Jing Qi Shen more than 400 years ago.

  • The methodology of the Oriental philosophy is deductive and that of the of Occidental philosophy is inductive. Therefore study on the Oriental philosophy must start from right comprehension of fundamental premise before detailed analysis. The writer studied the meaning of the cosmology which forms the basis of Sa-sang constitutional philosophy and the propriety of visceral assignment by Sa-sang constitution which forms the theoletiacal basis of Sa-sang constitutional medicine. The results are following ; 1. The cosmology of Lee jae-ma has the existent principle but don't have the side of the formative principie. 2. The cosmology of Lee jae-ma is not that searchs for the objective rule of nature but that centers around a human being by subjective understanding system. 3. The cosmology consists of four elements, that is mind(心), body(身), events(事), and nature(物). Among them mind and body means a human being, nature means the natural environment containing time and space, events means not that of nature but that of human being. 4. The mind and body as Yin-yang(陰陽) means the state which objects and self become one. 5. The mind as the Great-Absolute(太極) has the possibility of two interpretation, Firstly it means the state of the source of life which nature and human being become one, and secondly it means that the mind of a human being becomes the cosmos or the center of the cosmos. 6. In the visceral assignment by Sa-sang constitution the position of heart, the Great-Absolute in center is immanent within four viscera and the function of it is that the undifferentiated unitary organic body, after it is diffrentiated still serves as the unitary organic whole by mutual connection, adjustment, unification and supervision. 7. The Great-Absolute in center is divided into the Great-Absolute of mind and that of body. And the Great-Absolute of body consists of the heart and the system of blood vessel, that of mind means the self-consciousness(自我).

  • Objective : This paper introduces a unique meridian theory developed by Japanese philosopher Yuasa Yasuo. Method : His meridian theory is well organized in his philosophy, so we systematically review his major works and philosophy from which we systematize his meridian theory. And we critically examine it with current studies. Results and Conclusions : He tried to overcome Cartesian mind-body dualism by Eastern thought and newly developing neurophysiology. He articulated "body scheme" from human information systems, primarily nervous system and meridian system, which regulate physiological functions. It consists of 1st external sensory motor circuit, 2nd circuit of coenesthesis, 3rd emotion-instinct circuit and 4th circuit of unconscious quasi-body. Meridian system is the 4th circuit, through which he thought various affect(emotion) flows. Based on the relationship of emotion-autonomic nervous system- meridian-skin, he tried to confirm the existence of meridian system. His theory illuminates mind-body problem and emotion-meridian relationship in traditional East Asian medicine.

The basic thought of Sasang Constitutional Medicine is emphatic on the human beings itself unlike the idea of traditional Oriental Medicine, that accentuate the universe.(The traditional Oriental Medicine has a concept that the human beings follows the order of universe, but Sasang Constitutional Medicine has a different idea that human beings has the free will to the universe and newly comprehend the relationships between human beings and universe.) 2. • Since the early stages of philosophy in ancient Greece, reason has prevailed over sensation, based on the idea that it was the recognition of the ideal world existing as the archetype of objects. Abstract concepts followed geometric models, though they be invisible. However, from the beginning of 20th century, people began to be interested in the idea in metaphysical philosophy, that reason might not be a characteristic best representing the human spirit, and that a human being is composed of emotion, desire and the physical body, in addition to reason. The study shows that paintings and constructional space have shown similar changes through the stream of time, and have a synchronistic relationship within the range of the formative arts, based on the contemporary philosophy. First of all, it defines the change of contemporary thought and its analysis words. And consider the Corporality which is one characteristic of contemporary thought.
