  • The purpose of this phenomenological study was to understand and describe the essence and the structure of lived experience of liver transplant recipient. Five individual interviews were conducted to gather data regarding their subjective experiences. About 130 significant statements were extracted and these were clusterd into 9 themes. End stage liver disease patients chose their last treatment - liver transplantation. After liver transplantation, recipients experience vague anxiety and uneaseness related to much information and life style change that they had to accept. And they feared to lose their health again. But they felt free from medication and restriction of food. And they satisfied with regaining their physical status. Most of the recipients also had financial difficulties and social restrictions. And they experience uncertainty about their future. But they restored their previous social life. And they experience psychological wellbeing and hope. The results of this study might help nurses who work with liver transplant recipient in establishing and implementing an effective nursing intervention by understanding their lived experience.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand nurses' experience of managing diet and fluid in hemodialysis patients and to provide helpful information in improving care of hemodialysis patients. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews with ten nurses who had experience of providing care to hemodialysis patients. Colazzi's phenomenological method was used to analyze data. Results: Twenty themes were identified in the first stage of data analysis and were later categorized into ten theme clusters, of which four categories were derived. The four categories were 'developing a strong feeling of responsibility for management', 'acknowledging limits in performing duties', 'providing patient-centered education' and 'becoming a guide for the long treatment process'. Conclusion: The study results will be useful for improving nursing curriculum to ensure more effective and successful diet and fluid management in hemodialysis patients.

  • This paper presents a newly enhanced damage model in Monte Carlo (MC) simulation for the accurate prediction of 3-Dimensional (3D) as-implanted impurity and point defect profiles induced by ion implantation in (100) crystal silicon. An empirical electronic energy loss model for B, BF2, As, P and Si self implant over the wide energy range has been proposed for the ULSI device technology and development. Our model shows very good agreement with the SIMS data over the wide energy range. In the damage accumulation, we considered the self-annealing effects by introducing our proposed non-linear recomvination probability function of each point defect for the computational efficiency. For the damage profiles, we compared the published RBS/channeling data with our results of phosphorus implants. Our damage model shows very reasonable agreement with the experiments for phosphorus implants.

  • A model for the prediction of combustion and exhaust emissions of DI diesel engine has been formulated and developed. This model is a quasi-dimensional phenomenological one and is based on multi-zone combustion modelling concept. This model is developed based on the concept of Hiroyasu's multizone combustion models. It takes nozzle injection (spray) parameters, induction swirl into consideration and the models of zone velocity, air entrainment, fuel droplet evaporation and mixture combustion are upgraded. Various parameters, such as cylinder pressure, heat release rate, Nox and soot emission, and these parameters in the zone are simulated. The results are compared with the experimental ones, too.

  • Purpose: This study was explored the meaning of hospice volunteer's experience in caring for cancer patients and tried to understand their experiences. Method: The data was collected from 7 participants living in Seoul and Gyeonggi province from Jan. to Apr. 2005. Collection of data was by means of in-depth interviews. The analysis of the data was made the phenomenological analytic method suggested by Colaizzi(1978). Result: The result is consisted of nine theme-cluster; experienced a fear, limitation of activity, experienced social care, experienced physical care, good death, experienced necessity of recharging, experienced bereavement care. Conclusion: The result above indicated that health professionals must develop the management and education of volunteer of hospice care for various hospice care. Also, We should to encouraged the continuous education and efficient management. And support system should be developed.

  • Hot deformation behavior of GCD-50 cast iron has been investigated by employing the compressive test. Phenomenological deformation behaviors, which were modeled based on the dynamic materials model and the kinetic model, have been correlated with the microstructural change taken place during compression. Microstructural investigation revealed that the adiabatic shear band caused by the locallized deformation was taken place in low temperature and high strain rate. On the other hand, the wavy and curved grain boundaries, which repersent the occurrence of dynamic microstructure change such as dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization, were observed in high temperature and low strain rate. Deformation model based on hyperbolic sine law has also been suggested.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand and explore the essences of Korean mothers' experiences of caring for visually impaired children. Methods: Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews using open-ended questions. Five mothers of children with visual impairments participated in the interviews. Verbatim transcripts were analyzed using phenomenological analysis. Results: Analysis with Colaizzi's method showed two categories which included 14 themes in 4 theme clusters. The first category was 'surviving in the dark reality' included 2 theme clusters, of 'outcrying in the darkness' and 'enduring the darkness while caring for my child alone'. The second category was 'living as the light of maternal affection' including 2 theme clusters of 'preparing the light to shine in the darkness' and 'going through the darkness with the lights of love'. Conclusion: The findings from this study provide deep understanding of mothers' experiences of caring for visually impaired children. Based on the results of the study, health professionals can develop effective family nursing interventions to improve the quality of life for these families including the visually impaired children and their mothers.

  • We present in this work a coupled phenomenological chemo-mechanical model that represents the degradation of concrete-like materials. The chemical behaviour is described by the nowadays well known simplified calcium leaching approach. And the mechanical damage behaviour is described by a continuum damage model which involves the gradient of the damage quantity. The coupled nonlinear problem at hand is addressed within the context of the finite element method. For the equation governing the calcium dissolution-diffusion part of the problem, special care is taken to treat the highly nonlinear calcium conductivity and solid calcium functions. The algorithmic design is based on a Newton-type iterative scheme where use is made of a recently proposed relaxed linearization procedure. And for the equation governing the damage part of the problem, an augmented Lagrangian formulation is used to take into account the damage irreversibility constraint. Finally, numerical simulations are compared with experimental results on cement paste.

  • Gas turbines generating power operate in high temperature condition and use natural gas as fuel. For that reason, there are many cases where damage is done to the hot gas parts caused by the high temperature and many accidents occur like gas explosions, then various efforts are needed to maintain the hot gas parts and prevent accidents. It is difficult to find the root causes of damage to the hot gas parts from the gas explosion caused by gas leakage through rotor cooling air line from fuel gas heat exchanger during the shut down. To prevent gas turbine from damage, removal of gas leakage inside of gas turbine is required by purging the turbine before firing, improving the fuel gas heating system and installing alarm systems for detecting gas leakage from stop valve to turbine while the gas turbine has shut down.
